The Importance of Movember

Movember challenges men to grow a moustache for the 30-days of November and as a result, has become a worldwide movement. Here you can find out what it's all about, and how you can get involved to show your solidarity for men's health.

If you've noticed an influx of moustache-themed trends recently, don't worry - you're not going hair crazy. In fact, the abundance of moustache's, whether on a man's face, in the shops or in the media, are in effect a form of advertising for a truly great global campaign. Plus over the coming month, don't be surprised if you witness moustaches popping up across the city on men's faces. Actually, the intensified sprouting of hair is part of Movember, a men's health movement, which was founded by The Movember Foundation in Australia, 2003 and has swept an extra layer of fur across the globe.

The Movember Foundation is a leading, global organisation that is committed to changing the face of men's health. Their work spans over 800 funded programmes in 21 countries, and has raised over £346 million to date. The Movember Foundation annually challenge men to grow their biggest, bestest and most impressive moustaches during Movember in an effort to spark conversation, raise vital funds for its men's health programs and save and improve the lives of men affected by prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.

Since the movement's beginnings in Australia in 2003, the Movember movement has grown to a truly global one and to date, has inspired over 4 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world. But the Movember Foundation insist the movement cannot stop growing as long as serious men's health issues exist.

How It Works

Movember

While participating in the Movember movement, men are challenged to grow a moustache for the entire 30 days of November, effectively changing their appearance and the face of men's health. Men are encouraged to sign up in October at Movember.com and on the 1st November, start their Mo growing journey with a clean shaven face. Then for the entire hairy month, men a.k.a. Mo Bros become walking, talking and grooming billboards for the 30 days of Movember. Through their growing efforts, they raise awareness of the often ignored issues of men's healthy, prompting conversations wherever they go.

Another important part of being a Mo Bro is to raise funds for men's health. Men donate their face, and much like taking part in a run for charity, ask their family and friends to sponsor their efforts.

Mo Sistas

But ladies, never fear! There is a fantastic way you can get involved with raising funds and awareness too. Because Movember's not just for men; the women of Movember are known as Mo Sistas, and play a vital role in the success of Movember by supporting and encouraging the men in their life to get involved. As a Mo Sista, you can also get involved by signing up here at Movember.com, and participate by raising funds and awareness yourself. Effectively - you're a Mo Bro, but without a moustache!

A Mo Sista loves moustaches, and is dedicated to supporting the men in her life and promoting the importance of men's health. Mo Sistas are champions of men's health, not only encouraging the men in their lives to grow a Mo, but actively singing up and raising funds and awareness themselves to change the face of men's health.
