Al Motahajiba has sleeves and caps. they have a branch in MOE, Mirdiff City Center, and I think in Wafi too. Abaya mall in mirdiff has reasonable priced abayas. keep in mind that prices might be a little higher just before Eid. Also, most places won't be able to finish alterations, or custom orders by Eid as it is short notice.

Hi Humaira, I am also considering K12 for my child next year. From my understanding home schooling in general is not recognized in the UAE. However K12 is. you are given the curriculum and access to the online system. i think you can go through some sample classes for different grade levels to get a taste of what its like. If at the end of the school year you want to take your children out of K12 and transfer them to a traditional school, you will be given a transfer certificate. Which is recognized by the MOE. What grades are your kids in? What type of schooling are they in currently? Alternatively, you could just get the materials for a curriculum of your choosing and just do it yourself. i guess it depends on where you are going from here. I too want information on the same subject. All the blogs I find regarding UAE homeschooling tell us how wonderful it is and what curriculum we can follow. I dont want an online school for kids, I want to do their homeschooling myself. Already my kids are addicted to TV and I want screen exposure minimal. Instead I want them to go to parks and sports and learn there along with the academic subjects. Please tell me how homeschooling works in UAE? Is it necessary to register with K12 which is also expensive and ONLINE i.e. around 18000 AED a year I think? If I dont register with K12 and have full curriculum covered then how do my kids pass their tests and get promoted to next grades? If I take tests myself, do the transcripts hold credibility? Once my kids reach grade 10 or 12 and they want to go for SATs etc what exams can they give and which universities will take them? The exam part and University entrance part is my major concern otherwise I am all set for homeschooling them.

Rained in fujairah yesterday :) It was a pleasant event. Skies thick with clouds and we heard thunder too. It's nice to have weather!

In July we stayed at the Mayfair Bangkok Marriott. Its in an upscale area. Close to the embassies. There weren't any "massage" parlors too close by, which was nice. The rooms are all suites I believe with a nice little kitchen. There's a pool up on the roof and a gym as well. And I saw signs pointing to a laundry facility for guests to use. Though I didn't see it. The lobby rent dvd's for free. Which was great for us. Kept my daughter entertained. It's a little farther from some of the downtown touristy things. But a tuk-tuk will get you most places cheap and fast. Don't forget to haggle!! It's easy to get ripped off in Thailand. <em>edited by Salmonerd on 19/09/2011</em>

Thanks for your ideas ladies! i'll see if there is a function room in our apt complex. i think at home is more fun and the cost is easier to control. but as we're in an apt i'm not sure how crazy it will be..

I live in one of the apartments in MC. I called up multiplex once. And was told they'd do it for 600-2000 dirhams. And they would be able to give me an exact estimate when they came by. Sorry. Not super helpful.

Went to Wafi Gourmet today in Dubai mall. Wonderful!! 120/person nice view of the fountain and most importantly the food was great! As for al hallab. I think it's a good restaurant that is, for the most part, over rated.

We have our daughter there. She is really happy. It's a small school so it has a nice community feel. Everyone knows one another. The teachers seem to get along well and I see some of them car pooling to and from school. Or going out for quick lunch. The teachers we've had have all been really nice and easy going. Mirdif is a nice area to live in. It's more of a family environment. Not a party scene ;) Shrooq and ghuroob are the newest developments out there. And are super close to the school. The new mirdif city center is also close by and offers nice shopping. Anyway. I hope some of that was useful. Good luck with your decision. :) <em>edited by Salmonerd on 20/07/2011</em>

the bus door was damaged and they were having a hard time getting the students out. there were only minor injuries among the students.. some other non-students had to be transported to the hospital via helicopter. :(

Thank you all for you responses :) I came home. Went straight to my room. I swear I've turned my room inside out! I even checked inside shoes that are in the shoe cabinet! Checked the kitchen cabinets. Couches. Bathrooms. My drawers. In between the bed sheets. Under all the furniture. I can't think of anywhere else to look! I think I may print out a sign and hang it in the elevator. Hopefully it will turn up! (I've been wishing. And hoping. And praying ;) )

Thanks for the info i'll give them a call :D I know what you mean... i'm thinking of holding off till tomorrow before i fork over any cash.. but chances are.. once the money is out of my wallet. the key will surface... oh well! There was a guy advertised in the 7 Days a few days ago. Goes by the name of Prince I think. 24hr service, claims to open any lock! Sorry I can't be of more help but hopefully someone else can. ETA - you know what's going to happen hey? You're going to find your key shortly after you've paid the locksmith/Honda to give you a new one. Murphy ;-) edited by Petal on 12/06/2011

Thanks for the contact info. I'll give them a call. As far as price goes, I don't expect them to be giving stuff away. But when I called one carpenter he quoted me 1,700 dirhams higher than the retail value!

We went and in order to obtain a visa were asked to provide documentation of meningitis shots and a no object letter from husbands work. It's best to deal with a travel agency specialized in hajj and ummrah. We once used al rayya. Their number is 04 289 9685. They are near garhoud and festival city. (and clear from 1-4 I believe) Hope it all works out. :) ETA: GCC citizens don't need a visa. They cross the border like EU citizens travel around Europe. <em>edited by Salmonerd on 03/04/2011</em>

Thanks, all. Clairehdp, which model do you have in your lounge? It's a model they are not doing any more - I know that because I was going to buy some new covers (you can buy extra covers for their sofas really cheaply too) but the guy told me that the model has been discontinued....but there are similar looking ones in their range Is it the Ekeskog by any chance? we got that one and love it! its super comfy. but discontinued. so difficult to get new slipcovers. Whenever we have people over they all want to sink in

Not sure how helpful this is. but from motor city to MOE is approx 20 minutes. i go straight down umm suqaim road. but at high traffic times it will take longer as the Al khail R/A can get backed up pretty bad and the light lakes forever to turn green. to festival city is also 20 minutes. possibly 18. again from motor city

Just moved with union movers and recommend them highly. They made our move super easy. They are clean and efficient and nothing was damaged. They sent 7 men and finished in less than 12 hours. Including hanging 11 curtains/blinds and unpacking a good portion of our things (some things we asked them not to unpack. And we weren't sure where we wanted our pics hung yet so we asked them to leave those for us to take care of) Honestly I felt like we were in their way as they had everything covered. We were quoted 1800 (after haggling) for a 3 bedroom apt with 2 bedrooms worth of furniture. We tipped them generously as we were so pleased with their work. If u need some boxes to pack up some personal items they'll be happy to send some over. Their number is: 06 534 1772

Like hello kitty said, full fat milk until two years of age is recommended. I believe i read that its necessary for the development of the child's brain. then after that skim/low fat should be fine. your pediatrician would be best to advise you, though.

I think they were around 80-100AED but I may be wrong. I was pleasantly surprised! 80-100? the data packages cost more than that. I got my 3Gs for about 2800 almost a year ago I meant for the micro SIM. I thought that's what the OP was talking about? Sorry OP if I got the wrong end of the stick! edited by Nobbles on 09/01/2011 OMG! so sorry! my brain skipped a beat! i've been trying to find out how much the iPhone 4 is selling for so its been on my mind..
