I have done it in Bahrain and works just about fine. You need to mulch a lot and water plants. I have grown herbs and salads. The plants that really do well here are chilies, peppers, tomatoes, dill, rosemary and coriander does well. Mint, basil and parsley need to be protected. hope that helps.

Try using neem oil (if you can find it) but remember to spray it in the evening when the sun is setting or already down and then wash it off the plants before the sun comes out (usually one to two hours is enough). if you don't wash it properly the leaves will burn.

Thanks for all the info. We have just started composting and it is going well. I love the idea of air con water. I never thought of that but will now do it. There is no easy fix for cats but these things have work for me: lemon peel and lemon juice (good for plants and cats don't much like it) black pepper and cayenne pepper mixture garlic (this also keeps away a lot of pests) water shooting scarecrow (this is also great for random workers just walking on the property) I hope this helps.

Hello everyone, We are here!!! Arrived yesterday morning. Friends and family in the UK have been beside themselves with worry...and I was relieved to find that things seem to have calmed down here. Infact I have to say if I had not been watching the news, I never would have guessed that there was any sort of unrest here. Let's hope that things settle down and that a peaceful solution is reached through dialogue and open communication. I am looking forward to coming to the coffee mornings for newcomers just so that I can meet other expats here as we do not know anybody and it would be good to get some perspective of life here. Stay safe and well everyone. Hi Spiderwoman, I hope you are keeping well and have settled in.
