Thanks heaps to both of you! This is great to know and get your input - my employer is UAE based, so NOC is fine and we will own it outright so no bank involvement (which is why it's nit going to be a dream car by any stretch of the imagination!). Many thanks again.

RE: Club memberships - as Louise S said - we got a great deal with Yas Hotel - for gym, pools and spa - worth looking into once you're there. edited by Mrs Wolf on 13/05/2012

You've probably already sorted it, but can you take an Arabic speaking man with you? It will make things a lot smoother. In UAE I was taken to police because a taxi driver said that i'd run into him and caused all this damage to his car, (there wasn't a scratch on mine). The policeman told my husband they do it to get the taxis repaired at someone else's cost and knew exactly that he was lying but unless I wanted my car and passport taken until a courtcase to just pay the fine. I was fuming and just totally hacked off especially as cops knew exactly what the truth was, but needed my passport so just bent over. Good luck and hoping that all is OK..

Thanks for posting - it's good to be aware. What hacks me off is that the 'guards' at Aspire No Fun Park, lurk around ready to chastise if you walk a metre too close to a rock, but didn't do anything about a true threat. Toothless tiger, did anyone get a photo of the perv?

We have been a couple of times, first in Bentota and then the other times in Galle. It is a great holiday. Try to think of what you want to do - beach, jungle etcetec and just stick to that - as the previous poster said - traffic is a nightmare - 5 hours to go 130km. So don't go thinking, 'I will stay in bentota and do day trips to Galle etc' - it will just be too tiring. I think you need a visa before you go now - you can get online, but it's only been introduced, so I may be wrong. Have fun

Keep looking into it, but go in with your eyes open - desertBoot has given some good advice. What indicative salary did you get told? It can be a lot tougher than London, you have no choice but to pay rent a year or 6 months up front, nursery and school fees are exorbitant, there is not an established, reliable transport system etcetc. Best of luck.

That is fantastic news!! Where is the Nespresso shop? I don't think I could cope with Doha powered by instant coffee.

aaahhh thanks! You just reminded me - is there a nespresso shop there where I can buy pods? Dumping pram and packing 300 boxes of pods otherwise.

Mols, I know nothing about this organisation and am not endorsing them but remember that they said they did courses for nursery workers and child carers,- http://www.arabianchild.org/index.php?option=com_arabian&view=article&pagelevel=2&alias=workforce-development&parent=our-services

ah thanks - I am reading the 'takingthe p***' one thinking that if a maid did 1% of what this employer is saying - they'd be gone! But majority are sticking up for her, funny how location makes a difference.

We stayed at Olanda Villa in Thalpe - near Galle - it was fantastic and I think it could accommodate that many - it was just 4 of us - but I am sure it had at least 5 bedrooms all up - it had a chef, maid, gardener etc and was literally on the beach.

We just stayed in Prague with an 18 month old over Christmas/New Year. We stayed at the Hungerwall Residence - it is an apartment hotel, with a great cafe underneath. They include breakfast and will deliver food to the apartment to you - the location/price/decor/food/staff were just amazing - I can't recommend enough. Washers, dryers, great bathroom, baby cot etcetc It is very close to the Prague Castle and an easy walk into town. http://www.hungerwall.eu/en/

We are moving from Abu Dhabi soon (well hubby already there, I am just finishing up at work). I am preggers and have an 18month old, depending on your timings, if you want to link up and go to a few Doha Mums things together or just get the kids together I would be happy to do that. I should be there early March.
