Any advice welcome from anyone who has been through this. I'm in the UK and have got my little boys passport renewed by fasttrack. All good new passport back really quick. Paid extra for secure delivery of old passport with visa in it but this has been 'lost' by the passport office and they think it's mistakenly been sent out by 2nd class post. I leave on Sunday with my 3 kids to fly back to dubai does anyone know if I can re-enter with him without his visa. Embassy say not and that I should cancel flights but I have so much organised with car hire being returned, taxi to airport booked and paid for, hotel and flights... I have copies of visa and old passport and his EID card. Has anyone entered under these circumstances please? Thanks in advance

Kings Al Barsha is well located on Um Seqiem Steeet and is easily accessible for Ranches and surrounding areas and also for Um Seqiem depending in which number as straight up um Seqiem street. Current Kings has outstanding KHDA and I would imagine the new campus will be excellent also. My children are going there in September. Good luck it can be daunting but I feel people arriving this September have a lot more choice than in previous years!x

I have 3 at the current Kings and they are all moving to the new Kings in Al Barsha in September. I think the parental involvement depends very much on the Year group, the teacher and of course the parent. We have been told mid year as to how they are doing and if any issues are picked up we have been informed along the way with discussions as to how to improve things. For my youngest we are regularly in the classroom for various interactive activities, and across all years you can go in at the end of each month before school starts to look through the work the children do in class. Mine are all very happy with Kings. We find it a very nurturing environment where our children are known by their peers and their teachers, it still feels 'personal' to me even though its a bigger school than it was before. Everyone is approachable. We feel that the Al Barsha school will be just as successful. Good luck with your decisions, its such a difficult one and everyone's opinion differs!x

Sorry folks, especially if you're having your tea...any tips to clean shirts with bad sweat marks? They are good shirts but I can't seem to get the stain out, tried scrubbing with vanish bar, spraying with stain remover too, then stain remover in wash and washing on a hot wash with pre wash but not making a difference! Help! Thanks in advance for any tips! By the way I would like to point out these are my husbands shirts not mine!!!x

I have 3 children at Kings and we are very happy on all accounts, homework is about right, great choice of both internal and external extra curricular activities, good level of support across the years I've experienced. My kids have settled in very well, they are in their second year there. We are very happy with Kings and I feel that they will work very hard to make the new schools as good as the current Kings is.

Worth asking your company PRO if they can help? Ours did (we hadn't expected them to at all) and we paid them the money and they arranged it all, and it meant they were able to get the pink slip in advance so we flew our lady to Muscat and straight back. This was at the end of November after the rules had changed. There were some very good posts about it all in the Maids section back then that really helped. Good luck x

Thanks Olene n Skiingfreak @ Skiingfreak, is there a website that has these words, her school only sent the very basic red words. If you just type in high frequency words year 2 in a search engine it will come up with them, have a look at the year 1 words also to work on these x

I had problems with my daughter in the UK when she couldn't learn her 100 HFW's, we were constantly badgered by the teacher about it but it was a struggle as she didn't want to sit and study (she was in Year 1 then), so I printed off all the 100 words and another 100 on A4 sheets and stuck them all over my house, it didn't look great but it meant that whatever we were doing, brushing hair, washing etc., walking up the stairs, she could see some words everywhere and it became a fun game to read them. Within 4 days of doing this the transformation was incredible, not only had she learnt the initial 100 but half of the next 100 too. I put stars and stickers on the papers each time she got the word. I do this now with my 4 year old and it has made a massive difference to him too, he loves the game and now proactively starts reading the words without any persuasion. I was cross initially in the UK that I was being harassed by the teacher about this, I have 3 kids and its hard giving them all help sometimes, but it really showed me that even just small efforts at home to support the teachers by finding different methods your child will respond to can make a massive difference to their learning, and thus their confidence and appetite to learn. Good luck with it xxx

My kids are all at the current Kings with my eldest moving to the Al Barsha Kings in September, I will move the other two the following year just to give the school a year to settle down. We are very happy with Kings! I think they will work harder than hard to make the new schools every bit as good as the current campus. They are mixing the leadership team and current teachers so there is a good mix of current and new staff. We still feel very lucky to have places at Kings and look forward to continuing the journey at the new school. Good luck x

Thanks, I want to make her feel welcome and at home, even if that means making her more comfortable in her own space which she might prefer to ours I think. I did ask her what she needs and she just said a rice cooker...! Bless her I'm seeing her again this afternoon so will try and get a better idea of what she likes, I'm hoping after all that she might become a part of our family so want to treat her well!x

Thankyou to anyone taking the time to read this! I've received the mail at the bottom from Dnrd re maid sponsor, could anyone just clarify for me a couple of things please? The GDRFA I need to go to, is the place up in bur dubai? Can I get the list of sponsored people at the same time I go there or does this have to be organised in advance? Thanks for that! I just wasn't sure if one method was dramatically easier than the other, as someone told me I was looking up to 20kaed to do a visa for a maid who was already here on a visit visa, I was just wondering if a transfer was less, good to know there may not be a lot of difference in methods, just need to get a better picture of realistic costs now! Thanks x

I've had a great weight loss/enjoyable food week with home made fruit smoothies during the day and egg white omelettes with half fat cheese, ham (or equivalent), mushrooms, tomatoes or mountain bread pizzas for evening meal, really enjoyed what I've been having and lost half a stone already since last Wednesday. Feel so much better too, no longer lethargic much more energetic!

Thanks everyone! Will try and get some fresh wheatgrass I think, wish I'd seen the comments on how foul it all is before I bought the stuff! Found it in the health shop in moe. Sandydog if you want to share the stuff I've bought, wheatgrass powder, spirulina powder and probiotic capsules you're more than welcome to, I haven't opened anything yet but going to have a tentative attempt tomorrow I think!

We used pickfords in july they were great. If you get other quotes with lower insurance premiums than pickfords we asked them to match the premium which they did. Very professional and would use next time without hesitation. Good luck with your move!!

Had my one and only brunch there so difficult for me to compare, but I didn't see my kids for 4 hours so that was a sure sign of success for me! They had a great time, loads of stuff there as you mentioned for the kids and their own food section. Think it was ibn battuta gate hotel, a movenpick hotel I think, would definitely go again with kids in tow!!

I've been monitoring it twice daily for the last week to work out our normal usage without the pool as its leaking and it's not moved since yesterday morning but our water supply seems fine and apparently the tank is filling as normal? Oh great I'm so pleased you want to meet up! I am just about to start driving which will make life easier... I was wondering about posting a thread on here suggesting a meet up in a coffee shop or similar to start so that anybody can come along (pre weighed or not!) and we could go from there? Heck skiingfreak, even if it's just you and me we can keep each other on the straight and narrow! I've just signed on to WW online and an hour ago bought some scales so no excuses now!!! Sounds good to me! Happy to meet anywhere! Mornings best for me if that suits though as I have an FS1 to pick up at lunchtimes!xxx

Its just called weight watchers magazine app on my iPad, costs £2.49 to download the mag. I batch cook and portion freeze once every couple of weeks, normally recipes that are either just thrown in the slow cooker so take minutes to prepare or stuff that the whole family eats, so I've always got a meal I can take out of the freezer.
