Hi Social Worker, it will be difficult to find a job as a social worker for a number of reasons - language barrier (unless you are fluent in Arabic) and also social work doesn't exist in the UAE as we know it in the UK, USA etc. I was a team manager in London for 11+ years and have managed to make use of my qualifications and experience by working as a school counsellor and child protection officer. ADEC ( basically the dept of education) will only approve someone as a school counsellor if they have a degree in psychology, social work or sociology so if you have one of those than I would suggest checking school counsellor posts out.
There are 'social workers' here in AD who work for the social support centre, which is part of the police and they help in family matters but usually they have taken a couple of modules if psychology, ethics etc and aren't trained as you or I were. CP is also in its infancy here, with legislation going through parliament in Jan this year but policy and procedures still awaited.
I hope that helps and it's great you are here as they aren't enough of us with the experience and qualifications here and if you hold out, you may well be able to out your experience and skills to good use
can anyone help, my brother lands at 1am - will the duty free shop in arrivals be open for him to bring in bottles or is he better getting them in london?
