Reviving this post as I need a true copy of our passports for the same purpose as OP. Checked with my embassy and they don't do it. Checked with Dubai Courts and they don't do passports. Now need a lawyer to do it. Any recommendation near Sheikh Zayed Road, please. Thank you in advance. (Or Sandfly, if you read this post, will you be available?)

Thank you so much for this info, K. We were wondering if we should make a trip to Oman to get it done cheaper, but I guess it's not worth the stress...

Anybody paid it on your own? How much was it per person (wife and child)? Apparently it is much cheaper if the family is NOT yet in UAE at the moment of filing the application? Thanks

No problem. Was about time to bump the thread up. Amazing how fast your thread gets obsolete on here. Let me know when I can delete it. Thanks a lot. edited by quiquisb on 06/05/2014

Oldtimer, please do ask her. 180k is our budget but I'm not sure I can get any for that price in Jumeirah 1? If we can move in early/mid July, that will be ideal. I think most of the schools finish end of June.

The rents are looking scary but hoping to find a good deal in an oldish one... Any info would be really appreciated. Thank you

I understand that moving again after one year may seem stressful, but from what I know of Doha, Dubai is much, much nicer. There is heaps of space at schools here in Dubai these days and so much more to do ... If you can get over your inertia, you might find you're much happier in Dubai. Thanks for the encouragement. We lived in Dubai for 4 years and even though it might have changed a lot since then it still is not Paris, isn't it? ;-) School wise, unfortunately if my kids continue with the French one, it's nearly impossible at this point for this September. Maybe in January. Of course you could say they might be happier with International or other schools, and I might even agree with you! ;-)

Thank you for your input. I had thought about the school. They chased after us a few months into the school year when we moved in. I have an impression that once they got the RP copy filed, they won't check the expiry date. But I can be wrong. My driving license has 2017 expiry date. I am not sure if the license is linked to RP? I used my UAE license in Bahrain, and used the same to get Qatari one even though I don't have UAE RP anymore. I drive a rental car, so better to get an international license, but it would have to be from my own country, wouldn't it? As for the apartment, I am hoping that it will be like the school, we started renting it without RP and when we got RP, we gave them a copy, and they won't bother checking the expiry? Same goes with Kahramaa and Qtel? I will also have to check our health insurance coverage. Any other things to consider???

Thanks, ladies. Will check at City Centre. (Daiso carries some but not the one I want.)
