I am in Abu Dhabi and had the same problem even if we were in a brand new building. Check the drain on the floor with a good technician and you will solve it.

it is about the stainless steel lid that you have on the floor in your bathroom. Open it and there is a plastic fitting that should be changed. I am not specialist but we had the same problem and this is what I have seen our plumber did. edited by smartlady on 09/07/2014

insist to your landlord to clean the sewage. It is the only way to solve the problem.

I knew about the arabic test. We plan to study in IB and then university in Europe. Even so it seems to be mandatory to pass these 2 exams in order your graduation to be recognised by UAE Ministry of Education. Otherwise your transcript from the school would not be recognised. Not very clear for me if is true or not. Thank you! edited by smartlady on 18/06/2014

There seem to be no hard & fast rules and it's impossible to get a clear answer until you actually apply to the universities. We have lived overseas for 15 years & my 2 younger children were never educated in the UK. My son went to uni in 2010 and was accepted as a home student. My daughter went to uni last year, and although initially accepted as a home student, the university reassessed her & decided she is an overseas student. Of the 5 universities she applied for, two wanted all the documentation someone previously mentioned to assess her status. We do have a home in the UK by the way. It's a minefield - good luck! edited by lulubaker on 30/05/2013 what if we have residential employment status not a temporary one? We are EU citizens with permanent residence in our country but have lived overseas many years. Not sure what you mean? We all have residential employment status ( here in Dubai), don't we? .....the temporary refers to your likelihood of returning to the UK after the job is over - for many of us that is the case but if e.g. you have your own business etc in Dubai then it is likely that they will onsider you " temporarily absent due to work" ... We have never had to produce a statement from workplace, ticket stubs, bank etc etc but then we do own property in the UK, pay community charge and pay some tax so I don;t know whether they have access to this type of information. I mean that my husband's contract is for an unlimited period not for a certain one (2-3 years and renewable). Is this a temporary contract? For sure we will go back in our country one day, not sure when... and some universities ask for a date of return. As more I research as more I am confused...

Much appreciate for taking time to reply! We are european and my children never studied in our homecountry, since we were expats in different countries and they studied only in american curriculum. This is why I am worried about the exams I read here. Our budget here is not too big and the "better" schools are bit too expensive. Also I am thinking to change the curriculum from IB to british since my daughter would like to study medicine in the future. Very difficult decision for me with such a small amount...

Thank you busybee2! I have read on the site of AD Intl School that there is American Curriculum and British Curriculum also, starting grade 9. The student can choose. Would be useful for me to know about teachers, quality of teaching, approach, homework, communication with parents, facilities because there are not too many pictures on their sites, even not many feedbacks for both of the schools. Is there a rote learning or an experimental and logical one? Why they have exams during the school year (it is not our first contact with american curriculum and never we met such exams!!!)? What kind of exams? AD Intl School could be prefered for us because it is located not too far from our home, but the manner of teaching and qualified teachers will make the decision. If you would be in my shoes, what school would you prefer for this grades? I'm asking you because I read many of your posts about schools and it seems that you understand what I am looking for. Thank you!
