We had a wonderful family shoot with Jewel Seddon, based in Dubai. She shoots real life images, not posed ones, so a great fit for a party. http://jewelseddonphotography.com/

My husband and I recently finished classes with HealthBay Polyclinic (once a week/4 weeks total). We found the information and the class to be very helpful. We also attended a hypnobirthing class to complement the medical information the class above. It was run by Jasmine Collin of LoveParenting, and she was lovely. It provided a focus on the process and preparation of the mother for birth. They are not cheap, but I highly recommend both classes.

I know the Lighthouse Arabia on Al Wasl has been offering "Tween Talks" to the community for a free/minimal price. You could contact them directly to see when the next session is available.

I am a fan of Bookish.ae. For a monthly fee, you can choose a "package' of how many books you would like, and they will bring and collect them twice a week from your home. They have an extensive collection of parenting books as well: http://www.bookish.ae/browse-books-for-rent-dubai/rent-adult-nonfiction-books-dubai/parenting-relationships.html

I don't know of any inline specific, but I would recommend posting on the Dubai Roller Derby facebook page. They skate quads, but have several connections in the skating community (parks, groups, etc..) https://www.facebook.com/DubaiRollerDerby/

To be clear, the SkyCargo brochure did not state that these items are allowed when flying from Dubai. Maybe the line I quoted was a suggestion to make the pet more comfortable with the carrier before transit. It may have been different for us as we flew him IN via Emirates, and it was over 4 years ago. I would confirm directly with the veterinarian at Cargo Village. I can't speak to the paperwork required for cargo, as I went with in-cabin. I did process the exit visa on my own. This is a three step process including an online application for an exit permit (via moccae.gov.ae), the printing/verification/payment of the form at the veterinary office at Cargo Village, and a physical inspection of your pet by the Vet on call at the same office. If you have questions regarding the online form, I was given instructions from Dr. Jimmy (the Vet on call during my initial visit). The office is open 24 hours, and I found each Vet to be helpful and knowledgeable. As I went through this process 6 months ago, things may have changed. Personally, I visited the office at Cargo Village before bringing my pet just to have my questions answered in person. Best of Luck!

Hi, The Emirates SkyCargo brochure states the following: "To make the journey more comfortable, we recommend you prepare the kennel with familiar bedding and toys and introduce it to your pet several days before travel. This way, your pet will become more accustomed to it." http://www.skycargo.com/english/Images/Animal-Care-leaflet-6_tcm548-2181554.2_tcm548-2181554.15_petcare_tcm548-2181554.pdf When our cat came to Dubai via SkyCargo, we were able to include his bed, a small toy, and a t-shirt that smelled like us inside his crate. We choose to use KLM when we relocated him to US from Dubai, as he was able to fly in-cabin with me at half the cost of cargo (including my return ticket). I know this may not relate to you given the size of your dog...

Can anyone recommend a good place to go get eyelash extensions done? Also what is the difference between regular eyelash extensions and Russian extensions? Which is best? TIA I have had both done at Sisters Beauty Lounge. I prefer the Russian lashes as they add length and volume. They have 3 lashes attached at the base, as opposed to one extension like the normal type. The Russian lashes are very light in comparison, and much softer to the touch.

I haven't purchased either, but I did a test "drive" a few weeks back at the Baby Bazaar. Personally, while I was initially leaning toward the Nano because of price, I found the Yoyo to be a better fit for my needs/comfort. When the sun canopy of the Nano is folded back, it rests on the handle, constantly rubbing against your hand. The sun canopy also doesn't have a peek-through like the Yoyo, so you have no visual on your child when it is up. A newborn insert/carrycot is also not necessary (though available) for the Yoyo as the stroller back can be put in a flat position, reducing the price comparison if you use it for another baby. These small things may not be an issue for you as you are using it just for travel. My friend did buy a Yoyo for the same reason and has given up her Stokke in favor of the ease of use. I also have friends with the Nano, and they use it as their only stroller for their 13 month old. I think both are well made and worth the investment. There is a quick comparison on the Sassy Mama blog that goes into more details. I imagine the used market for these is small or non existent with all of the travelers in the area, and as both strollers can be used up until 33 lbs/15 kilos. You probably would have no problem reselling one after your travels if you don't love it.:)

The information page says you don't need to register: "Do I need to register my place to the event? Nope, the doors will be open to all and you can simply turn up on the day!"

I would keep in mind asking whichever company you decide on if there is a charge for your spouse to use the car as well (if applicable). In my past experience, a few of the big names are pricier (Budget, National) but the priced evened out when we found which one didn't charge for an extra driver. I am sorry, but I can't remember which one doesn't charge... Also, rent in monthly increments, even if you plan on returning it earlier. This often lowers your daily rate, and you are only charged for the days you have the car.

very disappointed about baker and spice, they did delicious healthy food. do you think they relocating? Baker & Spice has a new-ish location on the ground floor of Town Centre Jumeirah, Beach Road. It is on the small side, but the food is still good.

I have been looking around myself for a different type of pre-existing condition.. I found two companies that may fit your needs, depending on where you are traveling to: --Columbus Direct offers coverage in some countries. --ihi Bupa (now Bupa Global) insure residents of any country for travel to virtually any country. I have found service at Bupa Global to be quick, clear, and responsive. They have a service center so you can speak with someone directly, before you buy a policy. FYI: Call ahead on Baker & Spice in Town Center, Beach Road. As of yesterday, they are only doing take-out until Iftar. They said they are in discussions with the Mall to do eat-in again, but for now it's a not allowed.

BHLDN currently only has stores in the US. Having ordered from them online, I always call and speak with a customer service agent directly. They truly know the details of each piece and will transfer you to someone else if they are not familiar with an item. As for finding their dresses off BHLDN, if they are not "custom made" for BHLDN, you may have luck google searching the dress maker or brand online. With their $40-140 shipping fees to the UAE (not including duty), I only order when I know I am going to be in the US.

I purchased my glass dispenser at Lifestyle. I unscrew the spigot after each use, and wash all parts in the dishwasher. I have had no problems in 3+ years of use. I would recommend considering one with a stand, as it is a bit difficult securing it high enough for a glass to fit underneath while dispensing.

After an extensive search for a good travel steamer in Dubai, I ended up buying one back in my home country. That said, the best I found here is not intended for travel, but based on its weight and price, I went with the Emjoi Garment Steamer at Carrefour (125aed). It is bulky, but lower weight and cost than the Phillips at 199aed. I tried a few different travel models from luggage stores, but found them overpriced and underpowered.

Picasso Gallery in Satwa (Al Hudaiba Rd) is a good place. Also, Home Centre has pre-stretched canvases of different sizes in their wall "art" section, though I am not sure about the quality.

I second mosquito repellent w/Deet, as I can only find 100% Deet here. You won't need it for most areas in Dubai, but it is great to have if you vacation outside the UAE (India, Sri Lanka,....). My advice is if there is a brand of any type of spice combination/packet (chicken bake/taco/salad dressing) that you love, I would bring it with you just to be sure. This goes for hot sauces as well. You can easily find Tabasco, but brands like Cholula are harder to find and very expensive. Park N Shop and SafestWay (yes, safe-est) supermarkets consistently stock shelf-stable products from the US and UK. While there is price markup, I find the price is worth the saved luggage space for other items. As for major Thanksgiving and Christmas items, I have found everything needed, ie. turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, karo syrup....just make sure to stock up a few weeks in advance.

Lighthouse(Arabia) in Dubai has several grief specialists. After an initial call, I was contacted by a managing partner to discuss my personal situation and needs, at which point a therapist was recommended to me. I found this process to be reassuring as I wasn't just sent to someone with an opening, but to a counselor specific for my grief.

I highly recommend both Dr. Ann Roberts (Podiatrist and Chiropodist) at Health Bay Polyclinic in Jumeirah and Dr. Caterina Obrador at Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital (Podiatry Specialist). Dr. Ann took her time during my initial examination answering all of my questions, and presenting me with multiple treatment options. As she does not perform the surgery I required, she professionally recommended Dr. Caterina Obrador. Dr. Caterina was equally professional, patient, and friendly during all consultations. 3 weeks out from my surgery, I am very pleased with the aesthetic results of Dr. Caterina's work, as well as relieved of pain and discomfort. Overall, both doctors provided me with the best medical experience I have had in my 4 years in Dubai.
