Hi ladies Just wanted to post an update. It has been 16 months I've been in Dubai and have yet to find work. Been to numerous interviewes and the response is always either over qualified or no UAE experience.

I don't think I have high expectations. I apply for entry level positions and roles as well as more senior level roles.

If this happened to me i would do this: Oh btw hon, guess what! Today while picking up DD, I was talking to one of the moms. Apparently a sick married prick tried to pick up mrs. Xyz. She's contacted the authorities and reported it. They're investigating it now. Poor girl I mean what kind of prick would do this? They're just waiting for him to show up at the nursery again! Trust me, if his intentions were not so innocent, he'll &$@@ his pants. He will not show face miles away from the nursery and he will think twice before pursuing anything else in the future! Just my 2 cent! I like this plan. :) Great idea ! Agree! He might just start looking elsewhere. It doesn't get to the root of the problem really. What root? He's consistently asking about her, he wants her at the Christmas party, he insists on going out of his way to do the p/u and drop off! Most importantly he acted on his desire and asked her out!

This sickens me! Some boys are just so pathetic and weak. I call them boys cause real and honest men wouldnt dare to pull anything like this. Risking all the good that they have and for what??? Risk it all to satisfy their insecurity? He doesn't care what the teacher would think? What if his wife finds out? What is he trying to achieve with taking her out for coffee without his wife's knowledge? Just pathetic!!!

No none is telling the OP to break up her marriage, they're just trying to get her to understand the wolf is about to come bounding through the front door and eat her and her children alive so, its time to get down the fire escape. That its coming through the very same door the hubby left wide open for it when he sneaked away/misappropriated/nicked all of the family money and did he what he wanted with it. The same hubby who is determined to stay in Dubai because for him it has to be Dubai - well, the older ladies here, the ones who've been around the block with regards to the Middle East and all that goes with it, could probably expand on that little gem of an outlook quite accurately as to why for the hubby it has to be Dubai to the end. edited by DesertRose1958 on 16/12/2013 Desert Rose1958, would you mind expanding on why you think' it has to be Dubai to the end ', for those of us who havm't 'been round the block in the M.E.[/quote I would like to hear DesertRose expand on that too. I'm really curious now!??? edited by Minamiller on 16/12/2013

Ladies come on now!!! Why is the majority here encouraging her to break up her marriage? Yes her marriage has issues which needs to be fixed!!! Not broken! Why break something that can be fixed? There are kids involved!! They're both adults and can fix this. Besides, your only hearing her side! I'm sure her husband is sorry about what he's done to his family here! He took a risk for the family, he failed unfortunately! Everyone makes mistakes! No one is perfect. My husband didn't work for 10 years. I was the bread winner those 10 years. Yes it was difficult but we together got through it! Yes I too sent out resumes for him. Its called marriage! For richer or poorer!

I really feel for you Kenza, you're in a very difficult position here. I've been looking for work too but I'm not going to talk about me as I just logged in to EW to respond to you. I think looking for work at this point is not going to help you as today is the 15th. Meaning if you were to get an interview tomorrow and get hired on spot, your paycheck if biweekly still can't make it in time for your rent or school. You may have answered this already but is there any family member back home from both yours and husbands side to lend you money? How about your country's embassy? At least back home our governments are able to help in an emergency situation but being an expat here the government is useless. I may be wrong though. I really hope you find a solution Kenza!

I had a friend working in real estate and she also didn't earn a basic salary. All they give you is your commission but that might differ per company. Hope you find a job very soon, I have been back for nearly a week and have sent lots of applications before flying back. In the automated emails bayt.com sends I was able to see that around 600 people have applied for the same job! I did get some response and have been on interviews, so don't lose hope, you will get there :) Wishing you all the best in finding a suitable job soon! Good job on getting interviews through Bayt.com! I had no luck in getting any response other than the automated responses with (application unsuccessful). Wish you all the best in your interviews!!!

Im sorry to bump this thread but just wanted to update everyone on my progress of finding my first job in Dubai since I posted this thread. I got 4 responses which I call a big success. One was a real estate company who just after 5 min of interview welcomed me onboard with an offering letter right on spot (which I desperately need your advice on) Another one I'm meeting with tomorrow for an interview! (Please wish me luck) 3rd one a wonderful lady from here who sounded like an angel. We were supposed to meet last Thursday but unfortunately she came down with a case of flu. 4th one forwarded my CV to her boss last Monday and hopefully I'll hear back soon. Now, the offer letter I have from the real estate agency goes something like this: If I make sales of anything up to 25k/ month I will get 5k plus 40% com. 35k/month i get 7k + 40% com. And over 50k/month i get 12k + 40%.com. Basically if i dont make any sales I get nothing! As soon as i start with a new company...party at my house and everyone invited!!!

Im not sure about Toni and Guy here in Dubai, but back in Vancouver they were unreasonably expensive. A highlight and a trim cost me just over $380. I had my son's hair cut there as well for $85. Lets just say I've had better highlights done by other stylists for $100 and my son's hair cut was done for $12 with a much better results at a neighbourhood salon. Hopefully they're much better here in Dubai!

Dont chop you hair!!! I did that a year ago and i still regret it!!! Why do you regret? Going too short? Because i had beautiful long hair but got crazy and wanted a change so I chopped it short. I have regretted it one week after I did it because I ran out of short hair styles. Took me 6 months just to be able to use hair extensions which to this day still use them.

Hold on. I have emailed the OP and she has sent her CV - thank you, and I will send it to the relevant department. I am not sure why my email delayed reaching you but we have been in touch now. To those criticising, I was trying to do someone a favour which at the time was ignored. I will continue to try to help her so I will delete my original post which was clearly posted in error as there was a communication issue. I am not playing anyone and my intention was not to be mean spirited, merely trying to understand why I had not received anything. My apologies. Just to clear things up, I received an email from TDB this morning at 7:29 AM which I forwarded my CV and cover letter immediately. Thank you again for your thoughts and consideration! To all the 3 lovely ladies who have followed up with me, and those who have responded here, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so caring. Even if I don't land an interview I still appreciate the good will gesture! So THANK YOU! edited by Minamiller on 09/12/2013

FYI I emailed the OP last night 9pm to ask her to send her CV. Til now nothing. If I was desperate to find a job, that CV would have been sent by 9:05pm with a cover letter. Perhaps this is why people have trouble hiring and then people say they can't find a job! FYI I have attempted multiple times to reach out to TDB on this forum with no success. Yes I am desperate to find a job but don't appreciate being played by someone just to make a point.

I am very actively looking for work and will respond to anything and everything! Please if you could kindly just send me a quick email just so that I can forward my résumé. Very much appreciated!

Hi Dangerous Blond Since I posted my email here I received 2 emails to send my CV, which I have. Im really not sure why I haven't received yours? Since I posted this thread, I've been refreshing my screen every few minutes except for the past couple of hours as I was cooking some chicken lol. However, I do apologize if I haven't responded to you but as I mentioned Ive only received 2 emails. Would you be so kind and send me another email? Trust me, I've been checking my junk emails too and nothing!

Btw, I was a Service Desk/ Technical Support Manager for companies such as IBM, NOKIA, etc... IMHO you won't find a job in that filed here - the Indians have the market and will be making a lot less than what you will want.... It's not just that. Indians tend to hire Indians (same with many nationalities) and feel threatened by a western woman ... Why oh why such bias and sexist?? I had hundreds of direct reports from all over the world! Male and females. Im not here to change this behavior, Im just venting! :(((

Oh I sure can imagine how difficult it must be to be on the other side! I remember being on the other side myself back home with only a few applicants through selected headhunters, my hiring process was a breez! Thousands of applicants with only 50 qualified? Oh dear!

Hi Tallybalt, Thank you so much for your very informative response. I do tend to agree with all of what you said. Especially the mafias. I'm willing to do admin works or entry level positions just so that I feel Im making a difference. I also agree with you on that this isnt the best time of the year for job seekers! Absolutely correct.

Hi FairyDust Thanks so much for your quick reply. Much appreciated! I have applied at major headhunters and recruiters but to no avail. I also understand the fact that there are others who would do my job at a lower salary but my issue is I cant even get the interview? How do they know what my salary expectation is without even a single interview or at least a response?
