I had a problem with my Terim electric cooker some time ago whereby the oven kept cutting out after some time. I called a man who advertised on Dubizzle who came round and diagnosed a faulty heat sensor. He changed it and all was well for a week. The fault returned so I called him back. He replaced the same sensor again and also convinced me to buy a spare one from him! Of course it failed again. In the end I decided it would be best to call a "proper" company and contacted Better Life. The engineer was very knowledgable and also diagnosed the heat sensor. However, it seems that the Dubizzle guy had fitted a replacement sensor from a washing machine and not a cooker!! Better Life also replaced the timer and I have not had a problem for the past 18 months. Total cost from Better Life was around 800 AED including call out. I would recommend them. They have a shop in MOE and a web site - http://www.betterlifeuae.com/

International - I am also having big problems with my AC. I can't get my bedroom below 23/24 and it's driving me nuts - I will call the number and complain as I appreciate that the more people that do this the more likely it is to be resolved (although I won't hold my breath), but please let me know if you have any luck solving the problem. Very annoying for you that you had it working before! I wonder what they could have done to it during a service which would limit it? I'm in Tower C which is owned by Green Emirates Properties. Up until a month or so ago I used to be able to get my bedroom temperature down to 18 degrees, sometimes lower. Now it will not go below 20 degrees. I called SFM Maintenance on more than one occasion and got the same story as others - Standard is 22 degrees and I am lucky to get 20. So, I wrote to Green Emirates about it and got the following reply: Dear Tenant Kindly be informed that we have checked with DP & their consultant & they confirmed that the design degree for the A/C is 22C° ± 2 degrees.

Is the Dnata place near to Business Bay ?? Yes. Take the Business Bay exit from Sheik Zayed Road and it's right in front of you.

I recently renewed my E-Gate card at Dnata also. No paperwork just a copy required of my passport/residence visa and the expired card. The lady printed the replacement card whilst I went to the cashier to pay. So fast! Whilst I was there I asked her if she could activate it on my ID card and she said they aren't doing it yet as they have too many problems with this.

There is one in Burj Park, next to Burj khalifa. I watch it every evening from my apartment in Executive Towers.

I sent an email to Dubai Properties to find out what is going on at the back of the towers. Below is their reply: I received your enquiry regarding the back plot of Executive Towers. Please reference the attached drawing, which reflects the most recent verbally approved design of the back plot. You'll see that it includes a mosque, parking and a park area (which includes a running track, water features and children's playgrounds). The leveling is finished and works are supposed to commence after the internal roads are complete (on the front side of the project). Both of these infrastructure projects are being handled by Dubai Properties infrastructure team. If anyone wants to see the PDF attachment you can look here http://sxdwc60.webs.com/ edited by Alison_T on 12/07/2012

Also out the back do we know if there is definitely going to be a park built? I see they have been flatterning it for a long time now! I'm not sure how accurate it is but every artist's impression (including road maps) I have seen of the back of ET shows the area to be a lake and not a park.

Narjess, The pool is not private. The apartments above can see directly down onto it. There is a small slatted roof but the slats go the wrong way to stop people looking down! As far as the rent is concerned, mine has just been renewed at the same cost as last year - 175K. However, the one nextdoor will be slightly cheaper as I have a Burj Khalifa view and that one is facing the road, although there is a partial sea view. Last year they were asking 165K so I assume that would be the same.

So I guess no one here has private pools........... I'm looking for 3 bedroom apartments with a private pool..... Can that be found or only the 4 bedrooms have the pool? edited by Narjess on 23/05/2012 I am fortunate enough to live in one of the 3-bed aprtments with a pool on the terrace. I am in Tower C on the 19th floor. There are two apartments on this level with a pool. I believe the penthouses at the top also have pools. The pools are quite small (approx 4M x 2.5M) and have a constant depth of 1.3M. They have a heater, but not a chiller. There seems to be a problem with the tiles in the pools though. They keep coming off. I have been trying to get it re-tiled for a year. I have glued some back myself a few times. Another issue is that the people living above seem to use it for target practice! I have found many things floating (or at the bottom) in the pool. Even clothing and a metal drawer runner! By far the most regular thing I find is cigarette butts, so I can sympathise with Pugsley. Can't understand why people can't be considerate and use ashtrays! The rents are higher (obviously) than the standard 3-bed but you do get a very large terrace and a higher standard of finish inside the apartment. For example the bedrooms have wooden floors and the lounge has recessed lighting. My neighbours moved out a couple of weeks ago so I believe the pool apartment next to mine is vacant.

Not sure about the newness of Tower G but I live in Tower C. I live alone (2 cats) in a 3-bed apartment. I keep the AC on constantly in the bedroom as cool as possible but the rest of the apartment is usually off, the lounge AC coming on occasionally. I keep the lounge between 23 and 25 degrees. For the last 10 months my Empower bills have been: June 11 - 743.16 AED July 11 - 2771.01 AED August 11 - 992.17 AED September 11 - 3799.90 AED October 11 - 1098.40 AED November 11 - 848.25 AED December 11 - 1747.41 AED January 12 - 309.91 AED February 12 - 220.59 AED March 12 - 1896.21 AED I have to say I have no idea why it fluctuates so much. I have not seen an actual bill for a year, the above amounts are what are debited to my credit card.

I ordered a bean bag from Groupon on 8th Jan which should have been delivered within 2 weeks. It hasn't arrived so I emailed their support email address listed on the voucher today. Within an hour I had a reply from one of their agents saying there was a delay and it should be delivered by January 30th. If I wasn't prepared to wait they would give me an immediate refund. They also listed telephone numbers to contact them Not a bad level of service IMHO

Be careful. Roaming data packages are not available within the UAE with the exception of International BlackBerry subscriptions. You may have international roaming for calls but this does not cover data. If you use an iPhone (or other smartphone except BlackBerry) outside of the UAE you will get charged premium rates per KB for data even if you have a data package through du or Etisalat. This is why we do not issue iPhones in our company, just BlackBerries.

My thoughts are that it would probably be more cost-effective to keep it on all the time. I am sure it wopuld take more energy to heat the water from cold esach time than to just keep it at the same temperatre controlled by the thermostat. If you boil a kettle it takes much longer to heat from cold than if you turn it on again after the water has recently been boiled :) AC is through Empower, not DEWA so is a separate billl

I had mine repleced on Monday by Belcare (part of Belhasa Projects). Same company that does the maintenance and they always do a good job. I think the cost depends on the size of the filter. Mine is a 19" filter and it cost 2,800 AED to replace includng labour, pipework etc. Contact number is 800 BELCARE (2352273) or 04 3331445.

Miss T, just a thought, but have you been to Empower to actoivate your AC and pay the deposit? Until this is done you won't get any cool air, just warm air. I had the same problem when I first moved in until somebody told me that the chiller was not included and that AC was not provided by the building as per my previous places.

For my last two places I have used Belcare, part of Belhasa Projects. The cost depends on the size of the pool. My last one was average size and they charged me 400AED per month for two visits a week including chemicals. I now have a small pool on the terrace of my apartment in Exectutive Towers and they charge me 250 AED per month. Again, two visits including chemicals. I flew BA last week to and from LHR for the first time in 5 years using the last of my BA air miles. DXB to LHR was on a 777 and it did have the new entertainment system. Coming back it was a 747. I have to say that, in my opinion, BA has really gone downhill for service. The food and service was terrible in both directions. I hope you have a better experience.

I live in Tower C and for the past couple of months there has been a notice next to the elevators telling tenants to take their car details etc to the security guard (groind floor car park tower entrance) and he will tell you which are your allocated spot(s). Seems that many are either not doing this or shouldn;t be parking there. The guard told me that tenants from other towers use tower C spots if they can't park in their own. I have signs on the pillars (removed more than once by someone) and have also slipped notes under windscreen wipers. Several times on the same cars! All tenants have at least one allocated spot so it is inconsiderate to use someone else's. If I can't use mine then I have to block someone else's! Its a vicious circle and one of the worst problmes in living in an apartment block.
