Dear baya100, firstly I hope the move goes well. For me finding school places was the must difficult part about moving to Dubai. Assessments are part and parcel of the process (nobody likes them) but you will find a place for your child. I bet schools will be delighted to have a child who speaks both Spanish and English. There is an article on uaechildren.com from one mum ive met about her experience finding schools in Dubai, it may help to put things into perspective. The school year finishes end of June and opened again beginning of sept. I hope all goes well for you and your family:)

Could be anything from 425 to 550 aed (could be much lower in places but depends on doctor's experience, reputation and area, GP appointments probably cheaper but probably still have to see paed so paying double, I think it's much better here in Dubai that we get to see a paed first without referral. Good luck

The majority of times I stop to allow people cross as I would do at home however sometimes it is dangerous to do so. The car next to you on a dual carriageway may be going so fast that if I stop the other car is sure to hit the person. The crossings are not clear and sometimes at a slip road junction making it very difficult to stop safely. Also when I do stop the person take a year to cross and never says thanks (excluding people with kids and the elderly). However after reading your posts I will try to slow down and allow all to pass safely.

In my opinion the non for profit schools Jess and Dess (desc and dc for older ones) are the best but not always easy to get places. Also depends on the what curriculum you want, the fore mentioned are British. Good Luck, remember most important thing is that they are happy at school, that's when they'll achieve regardless of school :)

When it comes to paediatricians, I am qualified to say I have been around the block, . I will whole heartedly vote for Dr Talal Farha. Just opened his own Clinic in Dubai health care City. He is efficient, and if you need time, will never rush you. He listen to you and has a fantastic way with children, my children love him. Has has amazing up to date knowledge. Was almost impossible to find an appointment with him when was the head of paediatrics in the City hospital “ once I was offered an appointment 4 weeks after I needed it”. As a new clinic I now can find appointments much easier with him. His clinic number is 043612404 He also does children’s hearts Hope this helps:)))

Hello Dr Talal Farha is now in Farha Children Clinic 602, building 27 A (Ibn Sina) Dubai health care city Clinic number is 043612403 I too have my children looked after by him, it is only when you really need a capable doctor you appreciate this one. he is amazing, very knowledgeable, very organised and ethical mind. He looked after my son who had very unusual symptoms, after looking after him, investigating him for a while, he made sure we understood every step of the way what was happening, at the end, he referred me to Sydney Children hospital in Australia (though I am from UK, but husband is from Australia) At the children hospital ; they told me after weeks of torturous tests, uncomfortable parents bed, many specialty teams within pediatric, your doctor in Dubai (Dr Talal) reached exactly the same conclusion we have reached here, carry on with him. They were impressed by his skills. My other children are also looked after by him, I would not change him for any one else. edited by belle979 on 11/11/2012

I'd recommend Active Sport, my children have lessons at Dubai English Speaking School DESS but I'm sure they do lessons in my locations throughout Dubai. Their focus on correct technique is what I like about them. Hope this helps, good luck, don't wait too long before getting the lessons, my oldest started late i.e. 8/9yrs and it was more difficult for him.
