we were told not to ship and DVDs as this owuld massively slow down our shipment given all the restrictions they have out here, books too. that said you can pick up uncut versions of most things in the shops so i have no idea why - just more bullsh1t dubai red tape! Can I bring the children's books in? What about their disney dvds?

Look on eBay for sky crate and you will find plenty. You must make sure that it meets the IATA regulations, especially with regard to door locks and air vents. We actually took our dogs and crate to airport a couple of weeks before and got travel approval . But this was because we had two dogs crated together and I couldn't find any info on space reqt for two animals. I just didn't want any problems on the day! Animals have to enter Dubai as cargo, no excess baggage or cabin travel is allowed. Rubberduck...I am so grateful to you. Your information has saved us a fortune. I would never have done this by myself without your help and advice, so thank you so much. One other thing. What happens when you get to dubai? where do you collect your dog from? What is the process?

SuzyDuzy - what year are you children in? We have just had confirmation today that my daughter will join yr4 and my son yr2. Now we can get on organising the rest of the relocation. I'm visiting in a couple of weeks and hope to be able to find somewher to live. We have been offered a villa on Springs 6 but i'm thinking it might be too far from school. I like your thinking re play dates. Hi Betti, we are about to move to DSO with places also at Gems DSO. From my limited knowledge, Phase 1 and Phase 2 are exactly the same in terms of the types of villas offered - literally same price, same styles (traditional or modern), and 3, 4 or 5 brms. For me, I liked Phase 1 best (or Clusters ABC&D) because it has a lovely big park, playground, pool, tennis court, volleyball smack bang in the middle. So all of the villas are built around this as it is the focal point. Phase 2, or what I believe to be, is on the other side of the road - and the villas are in rows. So, there is no big park like the one I just described, but they do have some pools spread throughout. The are basic, pools, but hey, they do the job! There are indeed some parks, or green grass, but no 'playground' as such. My children are young, so the playground thing is important for me. So for me, the biggest difference is the 'feeling'. Not as many trees and greenery in Phase 2, but it is closer to Spinneys..... in any case, Phase 2 is not far from Phase 1. I know for a fact there are villas in Phase 2, but regret that the options in Phase 1 are very limited, if they exist at all. I believe we were incredibly lucky to find one in Phase 1. But we got booted out of our house after just one month because the LL decided to sell, we we deserve some luck!!! Phase 1 or Phase 2, I think the community looks lovely, and I think the school will really bring some harmony to it because loads of kids, that know each other, will be living close by to each other. We were at another great Gems school, but play dates were complicated as we discovered that we all lived in different parts... so this will be a nice change - walking to a neighbors house to play!

If you are lucky you may find also a villa :) Not a lot on the market, but.... Good luck :) Try Phase 2 Cedre Villas. More empty than not! What's wrong with phase 2 then? Or is it just because it's new?

Sadly there is no pm facility on here, you can only post your e mail address and let people make a note of it - not very satisfactory really, but that's how it is! Sorry to hijack the post but we are also moving to Dubai with our puppy. Have been quoted £1000 to relocate her. Would be much better if we could do it ourselves. What is MOEW? Haven't had any luck googling it. Also do you need a special crate to ship them in and if so where do you get it from? Thanks.

Thanks Ladies. Two kids - WIS is on Shek Zayed opposite MOE. Arabian Ranches would be possible, however I hate the thought of driving up Umm Sequim past DAA and traffic lights everyday. DH even thought of Victory Heights - but although the villas are great, around it is like an ugly ghost town - and still have to drove Umm Sequim... DH doesn't mind the drive, just thought it might make his life easier?? I live in DSO and my DH DSO and my children are moving to the new DSO school from another GEMS school, I can not wait it will make life so much easier. I would do it without hestitation. edited by Betti on 06/07/2011 Lolacat-we are moving to Dubai in sept and have been told there are places in yr 2 & 4 for our children. Do you mind me asking what attracted you to the new GEMS school as not being out there, we havrn't even been to see it. edited by Betti on 06/07/2011
