ShopBop is authentic - I know a few people who order from it. Prices for US brands are lower on it compared to here because those brands are generally much cheaper in the US anyway.

If you feel you are paying her for the bare minimal, as you say, then why not got go for a part time maid from an agency where you can pay hourly and also be flexible when you travel etc. This way you are also avoiding the HUGE risk of hiring someone who is not under your sponsorship. And if you do end up sponsoring her, the fact that she has her mornings free will be very tempting for her to work part time elsewhere - which could land you in trouble (huge fine) if she is caught. AED 3000 per month sounds like a lot of money to spend on a maid that you seem to only need for a couple of hours a day (in the evenings...) It doesn't sound like you are sponsoring this maid. Be careful because she has access to your home. Also, you might want to check her passport... She has a visa atm but we will get hers once it needs renewing. For now we have her on trial for a week. The reason y i reduced her hours was because my eldest naps 9.30-12.30. Shes such a light sleeper i cant do anything around the appt. I take the younger one to my bedroom and she also naps then too. Both girls wake up at 7, so i thought i'd deal with them for 2.5 hours in the morning, theres nothing for the maid to do while they nap, it made sense for her to come at 12. Although during the week days my eldest goes nursery 1-5. This maid has it very easy, after the cleaning is done (every other day) there isn't much for her to do. I feel like we r paying her for the bare minimal.

Hello! The Ranches is a lovely community :) Yes there are pools in every division (so Al Reem will have a community pool too). There are no gyms in the Ranches itself but there is one in Studio City called Optimal Fitness, and a couple in Motor City (Exhale for ladies and a Fitness First) which would be approx 10-15 mins drive from you.

You would have to wait until they cancel her visa, and then she would have the appropriate papers. You then go to the DNRD office to proceed with the visa transfer paperwork

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I usually give Thursday night to Saturday morning off and sometimes the entire weekend if we don't need any extra help. One more question for you please- where does your maid stay when you travel? Home or do you pay for live out accommodation? Thanks in advance!

Yes you must use a fabric softener in each wash, I don't have a dryer and always hang my stuff outside to dry. Thanks so much for your reply! Is about a cap full of softener good enough per load?

Hi ladies, I used to use a dryer but am now hanging my laundry outside to dry. The dried laundry isn't as soft as straight out of the dryer. I don't use any softener but am wondering if that will really make a difference (especially for towels?). Any advice much appreciated..thanks in advance!

My kids are at DAA (Elementary as well) and we have been very happy with the school. However not every teacher has been perfect (as is the case in every school) so at times like this, we have tried to increase our communication with the teacher. I initially felt my child's KG teacher wasn't friendly at all towards parents but she turned out to be a fantastic teacher and my child had no complaints and made wonderful friends. We have also had teachers and TA's who have been really really welcoming and have gone out of their way to welcome kids and families into their classrooms. So don't let one teacher/TA dishearten you. But do tell the teacher how you feel about the TA's derogatory remarks (I would). If you're still unhappy, you should see one of the assistant principals and voice your concerns.

Great suggestion from Genie. I would do the same. The Chedi is about 15 mins drive from the airport and is a gorgeous property. They have a fantastic restaurant (the main one) where you could have a lovely lunch, indoors or outdoors.

Hi ladies, would love to hear any holiday advice if you have planned a similar holiday. We are traveling to Singapore for a few nights over the xmas holidays and would like to spend a couple of days for a beach break at a nearby island. One option is Bintan which is a 45 min ferry ride from Singapore. Langkawi is a 1.5 hr flight. Any other suggestions please? We are traveling with kids so a resort with a kids club would be great (but not necessary). Thanks in advance :)

There are many compounds in Barsha (along 316 road). Most of them are 3 bd & 4 bdroom with a pool and gym in the compound. I don't think there's any catch - some of them are quite nice, however a few still have dirt roads around them. Still, they are just minutes away from getting on SZR.
