The Grand Midwest Tower, Media City, is ideally located on Sheikh Zayed Road. It is easily accessible with a metro station right on Hotel doorstep. http://www.grandmidwest.com/images/summerRates.jpg :) great suggestion - thank you! just called them and their rates are so much more reasonable :)

Only one of them was. Out of 4, I had a Thai living in the US, an American living in Saudi, another American living in Thailand, and an Australian living in Dubai. :-D They called my Thai friend in the US and my Australian friend who lives in Dubai. At the time of the call, he was in The Phillipines having a beer on the beach! He gave me a great reference! :-)))))))))) *spelling edited by natalie8 on 02/07/2011 Ah ok :) The current application form asks for 2 references. Thanks so much for your quick replies :)

Hi cm and belated Happy Canada Day. :-) I renewed my passport in November of '09 so my info is current as of then. The first thing I would suggest is that you get the 48 page version. I didn't have a guarantor at that time either, so I just used their service. You pay a fee for this (of course), and it's just basically you stating that everything you've stated in your application is true. It's painless and it doesn't affect the processing time at all. Also, for the references, they've called a couple of mine this time AND the last time I renewed my passport in Bangkok. So, be very cautious on this part. E-mail or call your references and ask them for their full adresses and phone numbers. Also, in most places, embassies and consulates are open for services from 8 am till 12 noon, but in Dubai, it's only until 11:00. I found this out the hard way a little while ago. Good luck. Happy Canada Day to you too and thanks so much for your reply! Were the references on your last application living in Dubai?

How about sand toys (a bucket with a couple of other pieces as a set) for the younger ones - babies up to age 3/4. And then perhaps a book/small puzzle along with a piece of candy for the older ones?

Hi, I am moving to Sadaf 6 in JBR in a week. I know it is really family friendly. Was wondering if there is a indoor play area for young kids (mine are 2 1/2 years and 7 months) TIA There is a drop-in day care/play area in Sadaf 1/2 called Fun & Play. Tickles & Giggles, also in Sadaf 2, is a party store/kids salon but they occasionally have events/activities for kids. There is Kidville in Rimal http://www.kidville.com/jbr You'll have a great time in Sadaf..lots of families with young kids there :)

I'd recommend Plain Easy car seat coolers (locally made - excellent idea by a couple of Dubai moms). I bought one for my friend's baby and she loves it. Here's their website: http://www.plain-easy.com/carseat.html

Where is it in Motorcity? Have probably driven by but been completely oblivious! Desperately need a pedicure but been putting off cos hate going to Tips and Toes in the Ranches. Do you have their number? ta much. Keep driving by Spinneys (Spinneys on your left) and Gladys salon is on your left (same building as Building Blocks - new nursery). If you enter from the front entrance, walk towards the back - you'll see it on your right.

As a DAA parent, I think the school is excellent (pricey, yes) but we're very happy with it. Although I agree with the OP that it would be better to have parent-teacher meetings during the evening rather than giving a holiday. I was surprised to find this week to be a 3 day week.

Excellent. I have one kid in Elementary school and she loves it. No complaints so far. Excellent parent-teacher communication and every parent I've met who sends their kids there has only had good things to say (in my experience). Only drawback is the extremely high school fees from Grade 1 onwards ( AED 65K +) but that's the case in so many schools here.

We are moving to AR soon and our agent has asked us to get the garden and house cleaned up (at their expense and to our approval). Should I just hire a gardener to clean up the garden and a cleaning agency to clean the house? Or does anyone know one company that can take care of both jobs? Thanks in advance!
