They have been at the same stage of construction for over a year...some minor work was being done last year but then all the equiptment was removed and nothing has happened for months. Some of the foundations were back filled in November so doubt they will ever be finished. I think you are thinking about the wrong ones as these ones look like they are nearly finished and everytime I drive past there are workers working on them, lawn and palm trees all in and looks like it could be the next few months maybe?? No I live in the frasier suites and can see them from my balcony..the front and side row have been finished for a while over the last year about 6 labourers have been doing enough to keep them looking good and the grass and trees are maintained. The actual site extends out towards the wellington school but I recently watched them filling in part of the excavated foundations. Certainly no progress last year. They do look very nice and have little plunge pools in the garden.

It does make a difference. If you are the owner/main policy holder you can use your Dubai no claims in the uk..my Dh did it in april! I had to start again because i was a named driver in HIS policies. He is an additional driver on my policy in UK and got his no claims from Dubai!

Yes thats true, but if you insure a car in Dubai in your name NOT as a named driver then you can get a letter from your Dubai insurer and a UK company will give you the no claims discount. I drove our second car in dubai for 7 years no tickets no accidents and when I came home I lost all my No claims as i was only a named driver on both policies :(

If your house is rented...do you have homeowners insurance and building insurance? can you not claim on one of these for your repair?

it is possible to negotiate a decent package that includes flights, housing ,medical and schooling and 27.000 seems rather low to include any of them.....you also have to consider...Dewa,telephone and TV packages, transport, deposits for just about everythingand start up costs ie furniture school deposits(many non refundable and you might not get a place) it might be a struggle on that salary and going down the loan route can be risky ....good luck with your decision.

We recently bought in Portugal...all the paperwork etc was done by our Portugese lawyer and went without a hitch...there are fees involved for the habitation licence and if its an old property transfer fees.....There is a large fee if you don't have an Eu residence....we have a home in the UK and we saved a huge amount by not using our UAE address. Once you have the Habitation licence its fairly simple to do holiday lets... You will have to fill out tax returns yearly but our lawyer does this for us...also when you buy you will have to apply for residence. good luck with your search. edited by cat-trax on 03/08/2011

Hi I'm a special needs teacher who recently moved here with my husband. WIll be here through the school holidays and would be interested in tutoring/working with special needs students. However, not sure how legal this is in terms of short-term work (don't want to be doing anything wrong!) and do not know the market here - does anyone know please? I know that where I moved from there was a big demand for this kind of thing, particular during the long school holidays when people wanted their children to stay in the routine of things to a certain extent. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks. Are you looking for a job??

I live close to Dollar Academy which is in Clackmannanshire near Stirling. It is a private boarding school and there are quite a number of kids whose parents are in the ME attending along with local kids from Qatar and Dubai. Stirling university which is about 10 minutes from us and St Andrews (about an hour away) is popular with young people from overseas including Emirati youngsters. edited by JoyceB on 18/03/2011 My DS is attending Stirling, He did his A levels at DBS edited by cat-trax on 18/03/2011
