Thanks Di - think its the same. Yes pretty sure they call it plastic icing in Australia too, the tubes I have seen are only small for writing on cakes or cookies, I have not seen larger packets of fondant icing ready to roll, maybe someone else has.

We applied to several schools and so far no confirmation on the place. I was checking this 2 schools last week which are [b'>not outstanding [/b'>but might be good? I liked EIS but its good to hear from parents. Would appreciate any response Just interested but what makes you say Raffles is "not outstanding". Is that the school's general reputation everywhere or was that just a random comment you heard somewhere?

Hi Ladies. Has anyone seen plastic icing in the Mirdiff / DSO area? If you mean fondant icing I have seen tubes of it in most supermarkets, definately Geant and Spinneys and in Tavola.

Scroll down the page and you will see a link to the pick up and drop off point location map. Oh dear, sorry but I cannot see it at all on that link, I just get a page of ads and flight bookings box :(

As far as I know you book the bus ticket at the same time as booking your air ticket. They then send you a confirmation email of the booking with reference numbers etc. The number to contact on my husband's confirmation letter is +971 2 599 0000. The pickup is just to the left of the entrance to the Marina Mall. As you drive up the "drop off and pick up only" entrance to the mall, you will see the bus parked off to the left. Hope this helps. Thank you so much :) I wonder why on earth they could not give any details on the website!

Hi, I am a patient under dr Bini. Couldn't be more impressed with his work. I went to see him as a referral from my gp after all the diagnostics were done. He initially will not give you the warm and fuzzies that your gp might give you but definitely a great surgeon and at the end of the day that's what you need. Go there with your MRI and he will listen to you. So if he does not attend to pateints who walk in without an MRI to hand then he should advise that it is required to bring one when the appointment is being booked otherwise it is a complete waste of time and money and if I may say not quite straightforward. My DS had flown in specially for this appointment so it was not only a waste of that consultation fee but his ticket as well since we could not get to see another speicalist in the available time he had.

Hi, I have a question regarding visa and passport hope someone can give me an answer. I am from philippines and my husband is from another country. We had a child born in uae whose nationality is same as his father as per the birth certificate ( and as per use rules I guess) We applied for two passport for our child. For the uae residency application purposes, we will use his other passport (not the phil. one) and this will be available only on march. I plan to go back home with my son this january using the philippine passport. If I used the philippine passport and return here in uae as visit visa for my son, would there be a problem if we applied for his residency? And is it illegal to have two passport used here in uae? Thanks It's not illegal to have two or more passports here, I know someone who has four! But the baby's residence is going to be on one passport and whichever one that is he/she will need to exit and enter on that that passport. He/she can not have residence on one document and then leave the country on a different one. And if the baby is already born I don't think you can leave it until March to get the residence sorted onto one or other of his/her passports. I believe there is a time limit to apply for residence for children born here. I expect others can advise on that. Perhaps if you have not processed any residence as yet and want to travel this month you can get an exit stamp from immigration to go out on the philippine passport but you would need to re-enter on it if you did not have the other one until March. I have no idea if you could apply for residence on a different passport to the one you entered on, you would need to contact immigration to ask.

The bit that gets me really is that we do everyting we are required to do and then when they mess up we have to run around trying to sort the mess out or get fined for it.

I applied for mine last summer and still have not received it, been back to typing centre several times, they have email EIDA and I have emailed, gone to live chat and called EIDA, no one can tell me anything. ok in your case, you have now 'lost' it, and should apply for a replacement ;) Well I have jumped through all the hoops asked of me and if they cannot manage to get the card to me then they have lost it not me! Not going to begin the whole process again until I absolutely have to.

I still get asked for my passport everywhere. No one seems interested in my Emirates id. For the first time I have been asked for the ID card twice this week! I told them if they can find out where it is for me I would be delighted to show it to them.

I'm with HSBC, what do I need and how long will it take to shut the whole account? Don't have any outstanding debts btw. Thanks ladies. If you have nothing outstanding and no credit cards it should be done easily in one visit. Just took a friend who was leaving Dubai to do this, you need to go to the branch where your account is located as it will be necessary to get the release letter signed by the branch manager, this was the case with her anyway, and it was done in about an hour.

I don't see why not. As long as he/she has her own passport and his/her passport is the kind where you can get visa upon arrival. Yes, the passort is British, just wondering if we should call immigration to be sure as his parents are not in the country and he wants to stay a bit longer.

Did you have surgery with Dr B. I'm interested in your feedback as I took my DS to him a few months ago and he could not have been more disinterested or flippant in the way he dealt with us. He sat at his desk typing on keyboard, hardly acknowledged our entrance to the room, continued to type. Tried to explain the history to him and he still kept looking at keyboard. He muttered no more than three words to us and ended the consultation without any interaction at all, he took no notes. The whole appointment lasted 3 minutes and ended with no diagnosis, no examination, no suggestion of how to relieve the pain or any idea of what the condition is. Came out feeling it was a complete waste of time (not to mention dhs 500) and extremely rude and careless. Have you actually been a patient under his care? Hi Di, yes I am a patient of his and have been for the past year. Your experience is at complete odds with the care that I have received when I go for a consultation. The reason I rate him is that when I went to see him for the first time I did so and let the MRI do the speaking. I was extremely upset as I had been to 3 previous neuro surgeons and each had told me that I needed an emergency operation. I have previously had 2 discectomies. Each of the other surgeons was excited to have me on their operating table asap. What Dr Bini did was take a completely different approach. He asked me describe the bad times and how I was holding up currently. I found him attentive and he made my options clear to me and advised his opinion. We went through the long and short of why multiple discectomies were not a good solution for me or in general (though surgeon's are very happy to recommend them). I got a short history on why his considered opinion had changed over the years of his practising with age and experience. This consultation lasted 90 mins. I have been to see him several times since and each consultation has been at least an hour. I was operated on at Neuro by Dr Msaddi. He is a good surgeon but extremely difficult to get hold of. Booking appointments with him you need to know when you will need him about 3 months in advance. I was assigned for follow ups with his protege att he time. I swear this guy had a scalpel in his eyes every time I visited! Needless to say it was time for second opinions... Thanks for the detailed response, its strange my experience was so at odds to yours. I can only comment on his patient manner as I never got any further, so obviously I will take what you say as to his being a good surgeon as valid.

I would like to buy paper napkins for decoupage and handcraft, with colours and decoration. Anyone can tell me where to buy it? Thank you..! Sorry if I have not understood the question correctly, but if all you need is regular paper napkins such as you would use on the dining table, then any supermarket in any part of Dubai will have a variety of plain and patterned paper napkins. You should have no difficulty finding those, where have you tried already?

Morning all Usually LL has a maintenace guys come in but the last time they did a job I was not at all impressed and left the place messy..I cannot deal with it again. Anyway LL has given me the go ahead to find someone professional (if that exists in Dubai) The jobs that needs doing are: Kitchen sinks tap needs fixing grout cleaning between tiles sealant around bathrooms etc Much appreciated if some of you lovely ladies can recommend a company.. TIA x I have those sorts of jobs done by a handyman, don't think he is a contractor though, but I call him for all small fixing jobs around the house. He has always been very reliable and done quality work. ADMIN - Why have the contact details I posted yesterday on this thread been deleted? It was for a handyman who I know and trust and who has been recommended on here by many many other people? It was probably deleted in reference to this post http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=197696 Thanks, but the guy I recommended was not some random person off the internet, I and many others on here have used his company before and he is highly recommeded on here.

There's no new info on the .gov website, they still direct applicants from the UAE to Dusseldorf. But the IPS office in Liverpool is listed here http://tinyurl.com/a8kzuef Of course that may not be the address we will need to send our documents to, that may only be the address for UK applicants only. There maybe a locked bag address for Liverpool as there is in Germany at the moment. I guess they will let us know at some point in time before the cutoff date!

Yes it was small with only a few vendors and probably worth it if you live nearby, it was the first week so maybe it will expand. I did not buy veggies so cannot comment on them but there was lovley gluten free bread there which was useful to find fresh on a Friday and a few other interesting healthy food items, but all the same things can be found at the other market on Saturdays so I woud not go out of my way again unless in urgent need.

I am beginning to think that lately, people post a question and do not like the answers, they then bash the people here. I am also thinking that when people post a question, there should be a disclaimer attached such as: "I will only entertain the answers I like and that agree with my views". There are alot of different people here with alot of different views, some will be helpful, some will not. When a question is posed it often does not have all the information so people respond to what they read. Often as the thread goes on more info is told so the answers change and is more understandable. [b'>So, before everyone on here gets bashed for not agreeing with a point of view, make sure the information is out there so people can have a discussion rather than an argument.[/b'> Just my thoughts. Absolutely agree, the OP was not clear enough in her original post in describing what she meant, originally did say "flat share" and only after the conversation get heated then explained it not as flat share but "common room share".

I bought the Whipped Shea Butter/Argan Oil from the Ripe Farm Shop today - I think I got the last pot available in store. Just opened it and put some on my hand to test it out. It is moisturising but it smells AWFUL. I can't imagine putting it on my face at all. I asked the lady at the shop if it had an expiration date or use-by date once opened but she said if the lady who makes it hasn't put anything on the pot then it must be long-lasting. I'm thinking it might not be that fresh or has gone rancid (does that happen since it is a butter?) or is it the argan oil in it that is smelly? I don't know what to do with it. Any raw unprocessed Shea Butter has a nutty woody smell naturally, true not everyone likes the smell of it but that does not mean its off or bad. I am using the same stock and its fine, I use shea butter all the time and would know if there was anything wrong with it, you are just probably not accustomed to the smell of shea butter or argan oil, perhaps you never used it before and were expecting a perfume fragrance like with a designer cosmetic but you will not get that in an organic untreated product. But then you don't get all the chemicals when you go organic either. edited by Di@DXB on 17/01/2013

The reasoning given for more Salik gates is to reduce traffic on the SZR. I'm not a traffic flow expert but this does not seem to make sense, for one thing where will the traffic go instead and if we look at how it was before we had any Salik gates I cannot say its less congested now at peak times than it was when there were no gates at all. So what have the existing Salik gates achieved in that regard. Surely the way to reduce traffic on the SZR is to build an equally sufficient alternative highway?

I've never been able to unsubscribe either. Worst is when they send promotion texts in the middle of the night. It's not just the sleep interruption, it's the fleeting worry as people don't generally call late with good news. I have a spare phone because of that, all my family members have the spare phone number so i can turn my day to day one off so i dont get disturbed So do I, I have a special number for family only which I must leave on at night as I have kids all over the world, (well not all over but a few here and there, I'm not a rabbit :)) and this is the phone that Etisalat are spamming me on!

It doesn't confuse them. It's not said in place of the name, more at certain times. Ie ok, mummy (in the baby like voice), put your shoes on But then they'll be called their name most of the time. Same as calling them pumpkin, they don't grow up thinking they're a pumpkin :D But isnt your Mummy your Mother? i wouldnt call my children Mummy as i am their Mummy Pumpkin i understand :-) They definitely don't get confused. Like AmyAus82 said, its used in replacement of "darling", "pumpkin", "sweetie". They very much know what you refer to, as the tone is different. It's a hard one to get your head around I think, without speaking the language, because it is peculiar. Plus, when I speak to my kids in English I don't do it. It definitely would not sound right in English at all! It must be culture dependant.

ok, just looked at an old screen shot of EW (not that I collect them or anything lol), and I have found out what it wrong. The post is not in a box just floating on a white background that looks more white because each post is not defined. and the usernames on posts were in blue. The advertising bar on the right is the same as before. edited by CAPTAINGERRYS on 16/01/2013 I agree the ad could be the same width as before but the effect of the box without a border gives an optical effect of it being off centre. ETA I also find it hard when reading down the thread titles to pick out the thread I am looking for. Again there being no distinct lines does not help in this respect either. edited by Di@DXB on 17/01/2013

I feel I have to move left to see and type in the text box evenly and that places me wrongly at the keyboard. The typing box used to more central under the thread Title and "Home: Dubai & Northern Emirates" . Now its set too far to the left of of screen centre. so you have the choice of viewing what you type off centre or moving to the left and typing at a bad angle. Its all off balance. This is because the right hand ad panel is too wide. If that were more narrow it would allow the typing box to appear central and balanced with the whole screen. Given in the spirit of constructive criticism :)
