I bought mine from the education nurse itself because hospitals generally get good offers from these companies. We paid 255 for 2 boxes of test strips with 50 in each, and one box of 50 lancets and therefore got the meter free. thanks x

ok, so am freaking out as i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes over a year a go...it was managed with glucophage....and then at around 16 weeks my doc took them off me.... told to have a low carb diet, which i did quite well, up until xmas....and now i am quite worried :( so i am at risk of changing from type 2, to type 1 diabetes? edited by Clever Bubbles on 05/01/2011

So an eventful week for me. Did my glucose tolerance test and 2 of the readings were marginally high... so i met the diabetes education nurse and she explained in GREAT detail about how it happens... the insulin, the carbs and all that lovely stuff. Anyway, we bough a glucometer and am pricking myself to death to test my sugar levels 4 times a day. Also, caught a viral and had fever for a couple of days. Thankfully the fever hasnt come back today but the throat pain and dry cough persists. So sick of being sick :( The doc said that baby's well protected... but am still scared. Hope she isn't affected is any way :( may i ask where u bought the glucometer? and how much?

as i understand if you were born in the uk with a british passport and u have a child outside of the uk, they get a british passport. THEIR children are affected if they are not born in the UK.... or your child's spouse is not british with a british passport (am currently pregnant and have been debating whether to fly home or not to give birth to)....have since decided that she will marry a brit! lol, the poor love although, who knows by the time she has kids, that the rules wont change?

personally had no experience, but with the ear popping that happens when u go up in the lift, i would liken it to when you take off on a plane and the babies cry their little hearts out because they do not know how to pop their ears to adjust the air pressure...? not an expert, just my thoughts.... xxx

My Dr said I need to lose 10kg! Who has fallen pregnant after losing the weight? I tried , I really did and lost a few kg's but then get all depressed that I didn't fall preggers and so as the circle goes got depressed and comfort ate and I am still eating after Christmas. If it was a guarantee I would lose 20kg,it's just so hard!!! I'm short 1.52m and weigh 64kg, so not enormous... 18 months down the line TTC, can't afford any more treatment for a while so need to try something "naturally" although am actually thinking of "taking a break" - have heard it can do wonders :) edited by Pingu on 03/01/2011 i was 94kgs, i know shocking, lost 24kg's....also gave up alcohol (me n dh) which i feel also contributed. but this was also tied in with pcos and managing my type 2 diabetes....not sure which factor helped us to conceive.....but i think weight loss certainly helped....

Wow 7 years!! My 18 months is nothing compared to both of yours. Congrats!!!!! Question though - did you have any fertility issues though? I mean there is a small chance we can fall pregnant naturally but its a small chance. Still think I need to just let it go and relax and have fun for a while see what happens, even if the chance is small.... had PCOS, overweight and diabetes. once i got that sorted that seemed to speed things up too..... would recommend dr luthera at medcare, she was amazing thanks...i have been trying from last 6 mons and has PCOS but my gynaec says to try naturally for a year then u cn go for IVF :( this period is really depressing and cant keep stress free! yeah, try naturally for one year....need to do that first. but she still needs to sort out your PCOS coz if you are not ovulating, there are wasted opportunities for conception.......are u taking any medication? trying to control your weight? (not saying your ARE overweight, but its supposed to be highly linked with the PCOS and increases yoru chances...discuss it with your doc) have u been tested for diabetes? fyi, i had a previous doctor in another hospital, was tested for everything u can imagine and was told i was fine and that i needed IVF, then i tried dr luthera as recommended by colleagues....and she diagnosed me instantly, backed it up with tests and data that contradicted previous results in previous hospital..... she's really good, trust me :)
