I was really starting to think that my husband told me to feed the baby in the prayer room or food court so he could have a laugh about it later. The food court is really is the most logical place to go as fasting people wouldn't really go there. It seems dubai mall is the most child friendly mall during the day now.

Poor boy. If you are sure that the pain he has is from the gallstones (especially if it doesn't go away) push for a closer appointment with the gastro.. Sometimes they are painless and just show up on scans, so the drs won't do anything (they just wait for them to pass with the urine). Worst case scenario he might have to remove his gall bladder.

Our tea boy at the office makes the worst tea I've tasted in my life. I can't even describe how bad it is. It tastes like burned water with some kind of stale tea flavour. It is not drinkable. So after a few of these bad experiences with his tea I became very vocal and let him know just how bad his tea is. He thinks it tastes fine so I think it will never improve. However he has been trying very hard to improve his brewing skills. Every morning he places a cup of tea in front of me and says "madam please try. It is special tea". And he stands and waits till I send it away, everyday. Last Thursday the general manager (who always drinks coffee) overheard the tea boy and decided that he also wanted to drink some of this "special tea" I couldn't stop laughing. Now the GM wants to buy a machine to make "special tea"

40 per hour is about average price for babysitting. The cheapest you will find nowadays is 35 but sometimes they are incompetent so if you are happy with the quality of service you are getting for 40 then it's fine. The days of 20 per hour are long gone. 75 for the taxi seems steep especially considering that you pay around 65 from Arabian ranches to the airport. Try finding out what area their housing is in. It's possible that they overcharge as a standard practice and keep the extra rather than billing the exact cost of the journey.

In the smaller vegi grocers they sales men actually encourage you to try their fruits. And often they will wash it for you, especially apricots. In the supermarkets however it's sort of wrong to try the bigger fruits and it's really wrong to put it back on the display half eaten. That's really disgusting and disrespectful to other shoppers. It's really annoying to pick up a wet sticky half eaten fruit. I would have reported the half eaten fruits on display to staff so they can watch out for these things and act appropriately.

From dubai you can use one of these companies: helpline or index. They will send the degree to the states and get all the necessary stamps. One from the state you got the degree, one from washington dc, and then the uae embassy in the states, then then they will get the rest of the stamps from dubai. It takes about a month thou and it's not cheap (around 1800 dhs). If needed they can also translate it to Arabic for you.

I just put all food away and all kitchen utensils in the cupboards. However I don't allow them to put cockroach bait gel in my cupboards as I don't want to attract them into the cupboards. I also hide away all toothbrushes and animal foods etc. I usually instruct them just to treat the barrier areas and drains rather than inside my cabinets and drawers. I never really had problem with insects inside them.

If you are buying a new car most dealers offer free insurance for the first year. Otherwise, if you shop around for car insurance you can find full coverage for less than 5000 per car (unless you are planning to get a 2-door sports car, even if the engine isn't that big, the insurance will be high no matter where you purchase it from) I drive around a lot and fill my car with petrol every 2-3 days. I spend around 2000 dhs / month on petrol. You can also reduce your petrol bills by purchasing a car that uses special instead of super. You can also use skype for calling someone else's skype account, but it won't work for calling any telephone numbers. My tv/net/phone bill is a quarter of your estimate. But my mobile bill is more than your estimate. You can either use prepaid to monitor your spending, or get postpaid with a limit if you dont want to go way over that amount. For a 5 bedroom, a 3000 electricity/ water bill is possible if you are careful about not wasting water and you conserve electricity. Also the bills will be higher in the summer when all the acs are on.

Why are you allowed to give a 4 week old baby gripe water when they are not even allowed a few sips of cool boiled water? You would only give 5ml of Gripe Water occasionally with a dropper, not sips of it to drink like water. Its a medication not a drink. edited by chezmoi on 05/05/2015 Obviously I know that. I dont understand the logic in babies under 6 months having medicine before every feed when they are not allowed to have water at all. I agree I would love to know what the harm is as my two never suffered and neither have my grandchildren, the youngest of them is only 3 and he's fine. The idea is that if you give them water their small stomachs will fill up and they will be too full to drink milk, water is hydrating but not nutritionally equivalent to milk. A few small sips won't hurt, (10-15 ml depending on the age and weight of the baby) it's only a problem if the baby drinks huge amounts of water equivalent to what they drink as milk. They only sell the gripe water without alcohol here. I haven't seen woodwards anywhere, but infacalm is available. It was also quite hard to find. A friend recommended himalaya brand but I haven't seen their gripe water anywhere edited by Cowboy on 09/05/2015

These are the most uncomfortable things I have ever worn in my life. I got a pair at the hospital. I woke up after the csection and was wearing them. After I left the hospital they were the first thing I took off even though I was told to wear them for three weeks. I hope the ones you buy at pharmacies are more comfortable. The ones I had were too tight and left lines everywhere. I paid 180 dhs on the hospital bill for them.

Aptamil, cow and gate, sma (ready made and powder) Hipp organic, pedia sure, similac, progress gold, promil, promise, nido, humana, nestle nan (only as a powder) You probably don't need this info but they also have a special formula for premies that you can buy in some pharmacies and carrfour sells aptamil for premies too.

I have no idea if they have them separate here and if so where. It might be best to ask your paediatrician or call up the nurses and ask if they offer it. They would probably give the most up to date info

When I switched my number from postpaid to prepaid last year, I got the deposit back 3 days later as a cheque, I took the receipt with me as I also had paid 5000 dhs deposit and I was refunded the full amount. I went to the main office (behind dusit thani). Now they are returning everyone's roaming deposit (seems to have been cancelled and everyone can roam without a deposit) my husband didn't understand why they are refunding it as part of the bill payment every month instead of discounting the amount from the total bill. (they only contributed 100 last month from the deposit payment towards his total bill)

Thank you ladies for all the wonderful ideas and tips. You all really helped so much, I was having so much trouble thinking of activities and places to take her. It's unbelievable how much energy my gran has and she wakes up so early in the morning. My brother jokes around that she can only fund her yearly trips because she is a couch surfer, and she misunderstood him and thought he was implying that she's an actual surfer.

My driver had a bunk bed made for a tight space (our maids room is too small, whoever designed the house did not think of their comfort) I'm not sure where exactly but he said it was a shop in satwa and the price was reasonable. The mattress it came with was really hard and spongy so I purchased mattress toppers from carfour. Also check out the bunk beds in home centre, the quality is quite good if they have the size you are looking for. edited by Cowboy on 03/05/2015

It might be a phase, there is probably some addictive game that he is trying to master. Try having a talk with him, see what game it is and if you could arrange something where he completes one level or phase a day (provided they aren't levels that last for hours on end). It's really important that while gaming he keeps a proper back posture, I think that is the worst thing really. Usually boys at school talk about all the games they play and the levels they reached so I don't see it as a problem that would lead to him becoming anti-social. I have a baby and her time with technology ends as soon as I find her waving a phone/ipad/tv remote around. I have an old school cassette player with old tapes of children's songs and surprisingly she has already learned how to keep pressing buttons till the music starts. This is definitely going to be a problem later on. I'm interested to know what other parents are doing.

Paying 2000 dhs for a school ipad is unreasonable. It's practically the cost of the ipad and you won't even own it at the end. If they want to use them it really should be budgeted and included in the school fees. When I was in school and kindergarten I didn't have to pay extra for the use of a computer (in the 80's it was a luxury not all kindergartens had them). I also disagree with schools having young students (fs1 till y3 age) bring their own ipad in. It is an expensive device and children are prone to breaking and loosing things. (Could also get stolen). The school should have their own iPads and let students without one share one of the schools ones. I had some very bad experiences in university sharing my laptop for using blackboard and an ebook with laptop-less students. It creates potential for nosey students to poke thru photos, personal emails, and social media, not to mention people thinking they are being cheeky and replying to personal messages and modifying statuses. In addition people who don't wash their hands (especially after eating crisps) can make the keys and screen oily. It's not that I am against the concept of sharing, but I believe a device like an ipad is personal and need not be shared with anyone if it's your own device. If it's loaned by the school then it shouldn't be used for personal purposes so sharing is fine.

Couch potato has a nice plan to start with the fun scenic routes and slowly move onto bigger faster roads with more traffic. Jumeirah beach road is always fun for a cruise, and you could make a lot of stops on the way. (Smaller malls, cafés, etc). Realistically thou, you are going to end up driving around your neighbourhood at the start and then venture out further. Some areas are more pleasant to drive in than others. For example, if I lived in the marina, I would probably take public transport to get around the nearby area as there is so much traffic and limited parking. Whereas if I lived in motor city / arabian ranches / springs/ meadows/ jumeirah, I would prefer to drive around. Give it some time and you will get used to the feel of the traffic and driving. Best time to cruise around is when there isn't any traffic (Fridays, and mid mornings)

Pretty much any supermarket, sometimes they don't have the stars they have the ones that look like rice or baby shells. So you find them quicker, they keep them in the pasta section near the pastas with shapes for children. (Not the baby section).

It's possible that she has said something to upset him, something clearly has happened for him to say no to her. A friends maid shouted at her 3 year old out of concern that she would go near the cleaning materials (maid shouldn't have left them out in the open) but the little girl was upset about it for days and called the maid a monster.

Try looking for offers on groupon and coupon. They have them from time to time. Just lookout for the ones that are really cheap for the photo shoot and have crazy high prices per photo. Without any special offer all the companies are pretty expensive. Maybe someone here knows a talented freelance photographer with reasonable prices?

I would see it as a positive thing that she answers her phone. Especially in the days near to your delivery you will appreciate a dr who answers her phone and is easily reachable. However shouting at her nurses is unprofessional during your appointment. I have heard positive things about dr natalya from friends who went to her during their pregnancies. However I have never met her or went to her clinic. Also haven't tried dr braith.. so no feedback their.

The job hunting situation doesn't look promising at all. I know quite a few qualified people who have been job hunting for a long time without any success. And at the same time I know a few incompetent people who found jobs quite easily (I doubt they will be employed for long but it shows that their are jobs available). Don't give up the search I'm sure you will find something eventually. It's just going to take time and patience. Linked in does seem to be quite popular now, I've noticed with all internet based recruitment agencies, if your profile is updated recently it shows up on top for recruiters (so even if your cv is the same, try sprucing it up a little so you pop up first) When I graduated with my bachelors it seemed that all the employers were hiring people with mba's and many years of experience and their weren't many opportunities for new graduates with little experience. But after getting my masters degree I found that employers wanted to hire people with fewer degrees and more work experience. So that didn't make any difference, it might just be an excuse HR gives when they prefer one candidate over another. And it's true, most places don't give any feedback and when you follow up with them many just seem very annoyed. It's been a few years since I was job hunting but I also remember it as a frustrating period. Good luck with the rest of the hunt.
