mm it sounds good, but definitely not southern, it is sweetened, lol the way i like it, but my hubby he would shun it. lol... mmm that whole recipe sounds yummy! i am just wondering if any of you ladies have some special southern family recipes... i have bookmarked some really yummy sounding cornbread recipes... i will try... I've always remembered cornbread being sweet too! Even when I lived in Oklahoma for a year, it seemed sweet to me. My older sister has some pretty good southern recipes sometimes, I'll shoot her an email and see if she has anything for non-sweet cornbread. You could always make a berry cobbler with french vanilla ice cream, a pot of gumbo perhaps with black eyed peas and some homemade biscuits :P or you could make chicken fried steak but bake it rather than fry it with mashed potatoes, gravy, okra and some kale or collard greens

if you can't find it here, your best bet would be amazon or overstock.com I'll keep an eye out to see if I can't find one though.

it started out as just my main email address, and just kinda became my login name for most things, also cause usually crazyleochick with the k is rarely available, and i kind of began enjoying using the word chic as well

there's a short(ish) way to boil the condensed milk though, it only ever takes me about an hour and a half. What method are you using?

you could just get some of those stickers that have a 'hi my name is' thing and then write the label on that :)

Ask them to put on a show for you. Tell them the design and practice should take no less than 2 hours. They can't ask you any questions as it must be a surprise when you see it performed. The show can include singing, dancing, musical instruments, skits, tricks and reading from favourite books. Dressing up is ok but only using their own clothes not mum and dads. It must not go for longer than 15 minutes but they must have coming up with extra acts and then chose the best ones. You will give them points for each act and if they get over 50 points for the whole show they will get a treat. They will lose points for making a mess of the bedroom/playroom where they are practising if they don't clean it up before the performance and also for asking mummy questions. They will lose double points if they argue or fight. They will earn extra points if they get along. Good luck x I'm not a mom yet, but I love this idea! Thanks Cyclone, putting this one in the 'things to do with the kids when I have them' mental file :)

We go pretty much every month and we've never had any issue with the Oman insurance, though I imagine my hubby's insurance covers Oman too.

I figure it's wiser to have all the documents just in case, we've been making a list of everything she needs to have attested from the UAE's consulate in the states, it's a bit of a list as he's an adopted child so there are a few other documents that need to be dealt with. Do you guys know how much it was to get the attestations done? I checked with the consulate website and the fee list was a bit mixed up.

Thanks Emma and BFC, she's probably just going to come visit for a couple months and decide weather or not to stick around in Dubai (which I hope she does) so I've been telling her to get the no objection letter along with all the document attestations and so on just in case she wants to stay longer.

Hi Joanne, I live kind of close to the Ibn Battuta area, and still haven't really met any friends here. Feel free to message me. crazyleochic at hotmail dot com edited by crazyleochic on 30/08/2011

Aaargh I'm going through what you lovely ladies have made thus far and still not sure what to do with the whole chicken in the fridge. Maybe a roast? What are you all having today? you could always roast it, then cut it up and make chicken karahi. I tend to do that quite often when we buy the whole roasters/grillers.

Tonight probably going to make a potato crusted quiche with some of the roast chicken that I used for the karahi last night along with tomato and caramelized onion, and still leftover macaroni. :)

Looking to have Iftar with friends with our toddlers - any place you can recommend? If you're looking for a buffet sort of place there's Ibrahimi Palace in Karama though call in advance during Ramadan as they fill up pretty fast. Their price is pretty reasonable, and I think children under a certain age are reduced rate or free I can't remember.

[u'>My menu[/u'> Dates/Juices Samosas Lentil Soup Falafel sandwiches with yogurt/cucumber sauce I'm really amazed with some of the menus. Do you guys spend hours in the kitchen? Crazyleochic: The pakoras sound good. Which veggies do you use? I tend to use whatever I have available, yesterday it was just potato though :)

Was just in Waitrose at the Marina and saw a young Mum of two with very brief shorts and a short low neckline singlet top exposing her muffin top front and back... honestly no clue at all. Perhaps she thought she was in a Walmart... how can anyone want to show off so much flesh it seems so silly.

Try baby powder where they walk and they will die off. A little messy but will do the trick and stop them. Just a sprinkle on their path. I hear cinnamon and flour both work as well.

Ibrahimi Palace in Karama is also pretty good, though you will need to call ahead during Ramadan because it's usually pretty packed.

I drove past the Mary Kay HQ earlier today :) One here in Dubai?!?! :O I wonder if it would be worth while to try to do the Mary Kay beauty consulting here. The only way I could think of it making a profit though would be to charge the shipping and handling as well, which might turn a lot of people off of the idea.

I haven't been able to find anywhere to buy Mary Kay here in Dubai, but my sister back in the states sells their products. We've talked about finding a way to sell it here in Dubai, sort of like I give her the orders, she ships it and so on, or I order it and bring it back with me since I go back to the U.S. every 6 months or so. edited by crazyleochic on 31/07/2011
