JJ you are probably right however most rice that we buy in the west (ok we're in the ME at the moment but Westeners) is polished rice with all the bran goodness/roughage removed, I'm trying to get DH to eat more fibre in his diet - small steps!

Thanks Gleek that's the long grain white one. It's parboiled so gives it that colour. Yes according to DH it's a hardship, but he's willing to give it a go!

It just went to prove that people with a little information can make very uninformed decisions ... many had the separate vaccinations (which was their choice) but I know of many who either didn't have then didn't have the whole lot (forgot, too expensive and several other excuses) leaving their children open to some terrible diseases and the threat of spreading disease to others. The UK was awash with panic at this time, I worked for a pharmaceutical company (unrelated to vaccines) and all our medical professionals said that the clinical trial was flawed .... I too had DS vaccinated for MMR - he has mild autism but in no way do I associate it with vaccines.

Mrs Mean, DS broke his arm last year Rashid were excellent and we did the follow up at the Canadian hosp we had great treatment at both and would recommend x

If you are British and not paying full taxes there then you're not legally entitelled to treatment in the UK on the NHS as has previously been discussed here, you can only have emergency treatment or claim on your insurance ..... Some 'get away with it' but essentially you're not entitled if you have residence in another non European country.

I am currently out of the UK I do not pay taxes (not working but DH still pays tax and nat insurance in the UK) I don't believe I am draining any service from the UK and I would certainly not go home to use the service eg to have a baby, other medical treatment like so many others on EW, I paid tax and NI for 26 years will only use the services when I am resident and entitled. I am passionate only as those who paid in often don't get what they need when they need it, that is my parents Eta but you are happy to exploit it, how is that right? I do agree with Clairehdp too however I think it would be wise for schools to look at some sort of monthly payment scheme if they're not getting payment on time however, not like in some schools a credit card payment (which attracts a fee for the convenience) even post dates cheques might be a step in the right direction?

We had an email through today from our sch to say some people's cheques were not valid as the rules on cheques had changed as of the start of 2011 - the banks were not processing the 'old' type of chq and the sch would be returning these chqs and seeking alternative payment methods! Sadly our chq was ok and it's gone through rapido!

Just to throw something into the melting pot ...... There are different types of British/UK passports, some people are British Citizens and some are British Subjects, Subjects need a visa to enter the UAE - I don't know the details and differences of being a Citizen vs a Subject, but I am sure someone here will Eta - someone I know had a problem when entering the UAE as a Subject and their heritage was southern Irish but had Brit passport <em>edited by cymraes on 05/01/2011</em>

a friend told me last week that hibiscus tea has been proven to lower cholesterol and high blood pressure siginificantly within 4 weeks, I have yet to find out how much you need to drink or if other hibiscus products do the same. My mother has high cholesterol and would prefer more 'natural' management - anybody else heard about this hibiscus tea thing?

I love my FiL dearly but I don't think I could cope with him living with us forever, he is 66. Why not speak to your husband, he probably wants to do the best for his father but in all the drama has forgotten that it affects you and your family unit. If FiL is able to look after himself see if you can just put a time limit on his stay, or you will have to gently draw up some house rules ..... that suit you. Also there is the visa issue and the sponsorship aspect, has DH thought about this? Good luck and also huggs ......

Hi there, I would contact someone like Dubai Kennels and Cattery (DKC) www.dkc.ae - they helped us with the Dubai end of importing our dog, even if you don't use them their website is comprehensive and they are helpful on the phone. There is lots of information on shipping dogs into the UAE on this website, see the main and the pets forum and use the search facility. I am not sure what the rules on bringing a dog from Brazil but there is lots to do if you bring a pet from the UK - pet passport etc. I believe you can only bring them in as cargo - we paid over £2,000 UK pounds to bring our dog into the country, without the injections and checks beforehand. Good luck

We are also seriously considering a move from AR to The Villa when our contract comes to an end in March, we've been for a quick look round and thought it was lovely, plus you get a lot more for your money, for us sch and DH's work is closer to The Villa. However I'm not sure if I will miss the 'groomed' aspect of the Ranches.... Can anyone recommend an agent who is covering The Villa, or is it best just to ring the for rent numbers? Thanks in advance.
