I don't drink during the day and don't eat much so I'm not going for the food or drink but when the weather is hot I really enjoy going to brunch with family and sometimes friends. It's a few hours for my children to have a run around and jump themselves tired on the bouncy castle while I sometimes even manage an adult conversation :) I avoid the loud drunken brunches though, yuck. I don't tend to do brunches when the weather is cooler apart from Nomad because you can sit outside, watch the ducks and turtles and play rugby on the grass afterwards.

There was a similar post to this a few days ago. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic227946-dubai-municipality-affection-plan--what-are-emaar-and-dubai-municipality-wanting-now.aspx There seem to be a lot of new things needed (for a fee) for property at the moment.

Thank you oopsiedaisy. If the maid agreed to have the leave at same time as family went home is she entitled to it? My friend isn't being difficult but they went on leave in June and the extra salary wasn't mentioned and now it has. If it was agreed that she would take leave at that time then no, she isn't entitled to an extra months salary. You get either the month off or an extra months salary in lieu, not both. If leave wasn't agreed then your friend needs to pay the extra month.

hi ladies Sorry for the late reply. Yes I do have Health insurance. Should I go to the GP first then and get a referral? Thank you It depends on your insurance company. Our old one you needed a referral, our current one you don't. Give them a call and ask their procedure.

At the end of the day, it's just a reflection of real life, from the annoying/obnoxious end of the scale to the tremendously nice end, and everything in between - that's life. EW is good as a forum as it let's you see other sides to discussions that you may not otherwise think of, but if there is a post you don't agree with or a poster you don't like, ignore and move on! We wouldn't all be friends in real life and sometimes you just need to be a bit thick skinned if someone disagrees with you. I agree that it is tame though compared to others. MN!!! :\: Mods: can we please steal the strikethrough text from MN??? it would be so fun. True words Tattie. Would love the strikethrough text too. The MN thread on *ahem* washing habits had me in tears of laughter.

Ohhh, that sounds scrumptious, Daza! I've been wanting to try macadamia for a while but have worried that I'd become addicted despite the 1-millon calories per spoonful ;) My latest batch is pumpkin seed, sunflower seed, and almond. Yum, that sounds good! My children eat most of the nut butter so I don't need to hold back on the macadamias. I made a batch this morning with a whole packet in, I will confess to licking the bowl spotlessly clean though!

Make them call their head office in front of you. Tell the head office you won't let them in until they come back with ID. Good idea, didn't think of doing that. Thanks Guinness.

Insist on ID. I am but we are at an impasse, the workmen can't provide ID as the company doesn't issue any. I need to go higher up the chain to complain about the policy of not providing any. In the meantime I'm just waiting for the service they provide to be cut off.

A service provider in our area is doing some work for which they need access to my home. I haven't been informed by the service provider what needs done and the workmen knocking on my door have no ID or documentation about what they are doing. I have had them at my door four times in the past few days and I keep telling them that without ID they are not entering my home. They have told me that they are subcontractors and aren't provided with ID. They keep insisting that they are wearing the company t-shirt so it's fine. When I asked for documentation I was shown a crumpled piece of paper about work in another area, my community was not mentioned. I'm sure they are legit as they wouldn't be digging up the street for fun but the fact remains I'm not letting someone in my home without something official. I've tried calling the company concerned but no-one ever picks up on their customer 'care' number. Does anyone know if there is a government department I can complain to? I think I recall a few years ago a newspaper article about the need for contractors etc to carry ID but I can't find any info now. I find it shocking that the company concerned doesn't provide notification or any ID or documentation when the workers require access to people's homes.

I do also think that whether a post is nasty or not is very subjective and it's exacerbated on here by so many different cultures and the written word not always conveying the intent with which is was meant. I find that there are very few actually nasty comments made on here. Plenty sarcasm yes, but not much out and out nastiness although tempers do sometimes flare! I appreciate though that what I find simply sarcastic (and to be honest, often amusing) another poster may well find downright rude. The most nasty thing I find about this forum is the insidious thumbs down. Someone can anonymously and relentlessly thumb someone down simply because they don't like them. At least when someone makes a comment under their username they are owning up to that comment and are willing to be taken to task on it. Marroosh, you get a kicking no matter what you say and I find it awful bullying behaviour on the part of whoever is consistently doing it. Some of your comments raise strong opinions and I have no issue with thumbing down in that instance but you get thumbed down for no reason at all. In that case it's putting down the person, not the comment and I find it horrible. Sometimes it makes me want to not be a part of this forum so Marroosh I know you can stick up for yourself but I just wanted to say that I think it is unwarranted, wrong and whomever is doing it should stop.

What do you do if she says she wants to keep it? :/ I'd say no. I've previously had a maid abscond and don't wish to repeat the headache. On that occasion immigration weren't impressed that our maid had her passport. If we go away we leave our maids passport at my husband's work so it can be taken to her if she has an emergency.

Some play areas let you drop off but it's normally from older than one. You could try Peekaboo at MOE, I remember seeing quite young children dropped there. Alternatively you could get a regular agency maid in to care for your little one if you would be comfortable with that.

Yep, like the recipe says, just chuck in the nuts and whir away. I always do a blend of nuts and often don't actually have any peanuts in there at all. The current batch is brazils, cashews, almonds and macadamias.

So my question about toiletries was only asking if you pay for all your maid's toiletries as she wants specific toothpaste, face cream, shower gel, hair dye, shampoo, conditioner etc. It is just another chore on my extensive list... We do an all inclusive salary and our maid buys all her own toiletries and food. I figure she's an adult and I'd rather she made her own decisions about what she wants to buy.

Unless they have a properly diagnosed skin problem babies don't need anything other than cleaning with water and using oil for dryness and nappy area as needed. I use organic virgin coconut oil although others will work fine to. By loading your baby's skin up with products you are likely to actually create issues. The skin can't work properly under a layer of all that product and can become irritated so you use more product which makes it worse.....it's a vicious circle. The skin is an amazing complex organ, don't load it up with chemicals. For my babies I use nothing but water to wash them in the bath. No soap, no lotion, no shampoo. I do use a shower filter (H20 Pure Blue) as the water here is pretty harsh. After bath, coconut oil spayed on the nappy area. If they have had any newborn dryness I've done an oil massage at this time. If any little rashes have developed (normally from getting a bit of sand in the nappy!) I'll use sudocrem but only if needed, not as a regular thing. For nappy changes I use damp cotton pads and coconut oil for cleaning. I keep pump cannisters of it in the bathrooms and a little spray bottle in the nappy bag. Spray or pump it on the damp cotton pad, it cleans easily and leaves the nappy area protected and soft. Don't use baby wipes, they are awful things and a big cause of nappy area irritation. Apart from all the other benefits of not using so many products on your baby it has the added bonus of meaning your baby actually smells like your baby, not what J&J (or whoever else) thinks your baby should smell like. Best smell ever :) edited by Daza on 15/09/2014

What would you have done if you'd been gone long enough that your residency had lapsed? Just curious, I plan on moving back to my home country at some point but I wouldn't move my entire family back now with no job and no home there just to be eligible to vote in the same situation. Good for you if like mannikat, you would.

No offence to anyone but seeing as you all feel so strongly about the issue how is it none of you have made provision to be there to vote? If it was the future of my home country you can be d*mn sure i'd have my say. People fought and died for my right to vote and I would be hard pressed to not exercise it. There are lots of reasons not to be there but as many of you have said this is a forever deal. You need to be a current resident with your permanent home address in Scotland to be eligible to vote. If it were your country facing this would you really move back to your home country in order to vote? I know I wouldn't.

My eyebrows have virtually disappeared in the past 10 year -- all on their own, not from over-plucking. I've thought about tattoos and have friends who've done it (with Michelle) very successfully, but between the pain and the "what if it's not right?" I've been in a holding pattern for years. I have been using eyebrow pencils etc. and recently discovered this: http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/product/view/gimme-brow Game changer! Goes on quickly and easily and looks as natural as can be. For those who are hesitating, check it out. Just wanted to say thank you for the recommendation. I got some Gimme Brow at the weekend, it is fabulous. Quick and easy to put on, stays on all day and totally natural looking. Step away Cara Delevingne, there are some new brows in town :D

Wow the truth hurts, Daza! yes suppose I am confused about many things and really I am not cut out to be an employer as I havent the character for it; thanks anyway. Why are you being so defeatist ummmuhammad? Do you actually want to have a maid? It sounds like you would rather not have one and are looking for excuses not too. If you are finding it more hassle than it's worth maybe you should try just having an agency maid come in a few times a week. You still haven't said what you do when you give instructions and she ignores you. Maybe if you let us know how you are currently dealing things we can give you some alternatives that might help. I know not everyone finds being an employer easy but I think it's a skill that most people can learn, even if they are never entirely comfortable with it.

There is municipality email address for such things but I've been told it's much easier to go to the office of the park in question and ask directly about what you need to do. If it's a park within a private community ask at the security office.

Ummmuhammad123, I'm sorry but given what you have posted on here previously about maids I think the problem lies with you. If she is taking advantage of it is because you are letting her. You pay her to do a job which she is not doing. You pay her to make your life easier which she is not doing. You leave her to care for your children and she ignores them. Yet you say she has an uncomplicated attitude, hasn't played power games and her character is fine and trustworthy? It's very simple. She does the job your hired her to do, no discussion, no hiding away. During her working hours she is working. When you ask her to do something she does it. Immediately, not tomorrow or whenever she feels like it. Do you think anyone in any job can totally disregard their boss and expect to keep their job? What do you do when you give her instructions and she ignores you? You say you have 'all strict ways yet she won't comply', what are your strict ways? You seem a bit confused about your role as an employer, I think your maid can see this and has decided she can do what she wants. And you are letting her.
