With any job you need to be available for the hours your boss needs you and many jobs have evening work, weekend work and erratic hours. If I was you I would sit down with your maid and explain that her hours will be changing. If she is unwilling or unable to to do the new hours give her the option of transferring her visa to another family. Personally, I don't think it would be fair to tell her her hours are changing and not give her the option of leaving if she doesn't like it. If you do need to hire a new maid you can make clear her hours before she decides whether to take the job. Getting your marriage back on track is much more important that worrying about upsetting your maid. I find getting out in the evening and having fun with my husband is great for out relationship :)

Wanted to start a photography company (you know, it's cupcakes or cameras for an expat wife :D), Teeheehee. You're right, I was an enthusiastic blogger when I just had the one baby. Nowadays I dutifully update the blog about once a month. It's not a lack of time (although I do have a lot less of that) I think I'm just so busy that time to sit and not have to think (hence EW :D ) is heavenly when I get a chance. Or maybe I'm just lazy ;)

Out of curiosity! How is Izzy working in an office; spend so much time on EW; don’t miss one thread without commenting aggressively, and do not agree that a housemaid needs a day off when [b'>everyone is on holiday[/b'>. But everyone is not on holiday. Shops, restaurants, events etc don't run themselves. My husband will be working over Eid, as will many others.

It's a lot harder for children to get a good education if they are in an environment where there is a lack of discipline. Even if they behave, their learning will suffer thanks to those who don't. If the school is big on discipline but doesn't give a good quality of education then that isn't acceptable either. So I suppose I think they go hand in hand and I wouldn't be prepared to compromise on either. If I had to choose one, I'd choose a school that gives a good quality education and just hope that my children were lucky with no troublemakers in their classes. Or that they didn't turn in to troublemakers themselves. I

This comes up quite a lot on here. A few posters have said it is common and recommended in some European countries as long as airbags are turned off. However....it's illegal here to have a child under the age of 10 in the front seat so if you did so you would be breaking the law regardless of how safe it actually is (or not).

Oooooh excuse my ignorance, I've just found the Abu Dhabi web page, isn't google a wonderful thing DOH, pregnancy brain :0 You're excused, pregnancy brain is bad enough when you're just pregnant with one! I'd probably struggle to remember my password to log on to EW if I was expecting twins ;) I've never checked the actual written statute but the police here are often quoted reminding people that under 10's aren't allowed in the front seat.

Hi jojobaaklini It's totally irrelevant what the UK gov website says as we aren't in the UK. The law here says it is illegal for any child under the age of 10 to be in the front seat. Hence if you want to stay within the law here, your son needs to travel in the back seat. I had three car seats across the back seat of my 4x4 and it wasn't a problem strapping in the middle child after a c-section. For the first couple of weeks I stepped up in to the car to secure the middle seat rather than stretch across.

Congratulations pinkbutterfly! Don't feel guilty about not feeling as happy, it's totally understandable that you have mixed feelings about an unplanned pregnancy, especially if your first one was planned. I think regardless of the age of your older child it's common to feel worried about how they will cope with sharing your attention. The great thing about such a small gap is that very quickly your older child won't remember any different. Everyone I know with a small gap says it's great having children so close in age and it makes it's easier for activities etc when they get a bit older. No two labours are the same so having a hard labour first time around doesn't necessarily mean it will happen again unless your doctor has told you it was for a specific reason that is likely to repeat. Generally labours get quicker the more children you have. If you are really struggling emotionally with the thought of it would an elective c-section be an option? I hope you are feeling better about things soon.

I've done it before and I am about to do it again. My DDs are now 4 and 6. I am prepared to be depressed, exhausted, and antisocial for two years following the birth of my 4th child in February who will be 20 months younger than my third. You all also need to prepare for those things too. However, the fact that I chose to get pregnant so soon means that it really wasn't that bad and I believe that it is totally worth it in the end. In fact, IMO, there is no better way. I would not have wanted to get pregnant again if there were more than 2.5 years between numbers 3 and 4. Love this. Such hard work yet we are happy to do it again for another. It shows just how much joy the little cherubs bring :)

I totally agree with Meagle that you just need to jump in and do things. Doing things with little ones is rarely as difficult as you imagine, you just need to take the plunge and do them. So many parents put things in the 'too hard' box when in reality they aren't hard at all and it can be really limiting. For the pool, hold the baby and have older non swimmers in buoyancy vests or arm bands. Lay your towel and clothes out before getting in the water so you aren't grappling with a slippery baby and trying to get your things. I've always used a single buggy with buggy board when at the mall /restaurants etc. Having a good baby carrier is really useful, if the older child is tired they can go in the buggy for a rest. I use a double buggy when out for morning walks, down to the pool etc. I got a side by side so they can see each other and chat, it's lovely for their bonding and means I can walk for longer as they stay happier for longer with a little wingman/girl next to them. They normally hold hands, bless. Good luck, you'll be fine. It's a great sense of accomplishment when you realise that you can do things and actually have fun doing so :)

the child learn how wait for his/her turn in playing, learn sharing, learn about the cooperation with their peers, plus the education system founded on,[b'> learning reading, writing, maths and science, this is education[/b'>. Agreed but it's all about being age appropriate. The OPs child has just turned five, it's appropriate at this age that she is learning through play. 'Play' doesn't mean running amok with her classmates, it's constructive, fun activities that teach the foundations for formal learning later.

Here's my secret (learned only from DH who would rather take a longer route but continue to be "free-flowing") Instead of Hessa St exit, continue to Al Kharmila street (behind Springs) - we actually do a U turn at the Hessa st junction because we're coming from the opposite end of Al Khail so turn back on ourselves but if you're coming from AR or Motor City, just keep going past Hessa St. Turn down Al Kharmila st and it's pretty clear, at the first traffic light turn right onto Al Asayel st and it flows freely all the way down to hit Hessa St through a tunnel and you reach Hessa right before the speed camera where it is free flowing. Alternatively you can cruise down Kharmila st all the way to back of the Greens and cut into DIC through there or even thru the back of the Lakes. Bet it will be gridlocked tomorrow now I've said this! Nooooooooooooooooooo! That's my sneaky route! If it's busy next time I'm going to blame you ;)

The OP is asking over here to have a cross check with any poster able to provide info if she is right about her fears or it's not founded, as a parent of children who had gone throw this I can say this school is not doing their job: education. Sorry Goro but I totally disagree. Education is about so much more than just learning to read and write. The importance of learning through play in children the age of the OPs can't be stressed enough.

she would go to pre-school next setember and then in 2015 to grade one making her 7 when she does. We do read to her and so does her elder sister. She holds her pencil just fine but does not how to colour a picture in. ends up scribbling and giving up in frustration. I guess I am anxious but I see her face and hear her when she complains that she cant do anything and that just gets to me When she complains that she can't do anything, focus on what she CAN do and praise her about that. There are so many things you can do to help develop fine motor skills that don't involve even picking up a pencil. [url=http://www.hamabeads.com/'>Hama Beads[/url'> are great. You can get cheap ones at Ikea. There are also some good ideas [url=http://www.teachpreschool.org/2012/02/everyday-fine-motor-play-in-preschool-and-a-linky/'>here.[/url'>

Thanks Daza, we do tend to open while cooking as we're so excited to get our hands on the waffles! Cuisinart is a good brand. I'm confused. You say she will now be going in to Year One aged seven. Do you mean next September? In which case she will be six? Or do you mean she has been held back a year? If she will be starting Year One as she is turning six then that is appropriate and as Cheeky Monkey said, has a lot of advantages. If she will be seven and has been held back, have you asked the school why? You have also said she can't colour. What do you mean? Surely all children can colour once they can grip a pen/crayon etc. Do you mean she can't do draw pictures well? Which would suggest she is still learning her fine motor control and is in no way ready for writing. You also say she does not know her phonics and you have tried. It doesn't happen overnight, play fun games with word sounds in general conversation and when reading to her and she will pick it up gradually. This doesn't need to fall only to you, your husband and her siblings can all do it to. Remember, it's meant to be fun, not drilling her. Do you or anyone else in the family read to her regularly? It's the best things you can do for her learning at her age. In all honesty it sounds like you might be putting your own frustrations/anxieties on to her. Just relax about it, it will help both of you :)

Surely she is at a similar level as the other children in her class? Does it matter if she is 'behind' children in other schools or countries? It's been shown time and time again that what is best for children (rather than the adults comparing them) is starting formal lessons around the age of 7. Before then the most constructive and healthy thing for their development is very much play based. My children are at a British school the pressure of school work on them at such a young age isn't nice. Afternoons get eaten up by homework when they should be doing fun things. They've got the rest of their lives to work hard, why the rush to start so young? It has no benefit and is increasingly shown to be detrimental. If you are worried about fine motor development set up a nice desk area for your daughter with lots of colouring things, she can enjoy it with no pressure and the writing will come quickly when she does learn it. I'm sorry, I don't know of any schools with places or tutors.

Try changing her in her sleep. My little one has had the same problem, if he is lying a particular way one part of the nappy gets soaked and overflows even if other parts of the nappy are reasonably dry. Try different nappy brands too, they are all a different fit.

Its illegal here and not in the Med full stop. If OP chooses to go to a beach in the med or a sauna in Germany then it is common practice however in the UAE seeing a woman with her baps out isn't and especially not in a shared compound Exactly. There are plenty of people who find nudity offensive. The difference is on a beach in the Med there is nothing you can do about it whereas here you are within your rights to tell them to cover up.

A few years back I left my 15 month old with my husband for a week. If I'm being totally honest it wasn't that great, she was pretty unsettled the whole time BUT we had recently moved to Dubai, we were in a new house and our things hadn't arrived yet so it wasn't a good time to go. I did videos of me reading all her favourite books which she liked watching. She didn't leave my side for ages when I got back. She's now seven and I'm fairly confident there was no lasting damage ;) she finds me going away quite exciting now, a chance to get a few extra treats from Daddy.

The Ranches is great but a two bed wouldn't give much space for five people. It think they have a small study off the lounge that a maid could use but it wouldn't give much privacy for any of you. You sound most positive about Motor City so that might be your best bet. There are loads of children's activities in the area and a couple of schools that you should still be able to get places.

If you're a Muslim and their behaviour disturbs you, talk to the landlord. Surely someone can object to their neighbours topless sunbathing irrespective of their faith? OP, just go and talk to them, it is completely reasonable to ask that they don't topless sunbath. If you get a bad response then talk to the landlord. If I had a landlord I'd be upset if one of my neighbours complained about me without talking to me first.

I wouldn't bother dropping hints or trying to be subtle about it - just tell her that you know she has taken some things and you should have been clear from the start but to avoid any confusion going forward she is not to take anything from your home that you have not directly given her. It doesn't need to be confrontational or nasty, be matter of fact and pleasant but let her know it's not acceptable.

I had a Pajero too, bought mid 2007, new with cash. Sold early this year. Looking at a leasing costs vs our approx total costs per month we were considerably better off buying. We then had 40k cash in hand at the end after selling. We were lucky with no problems and no loan overheads, maybe that is the difference.
