I don't think that is true Coriander, I've read newspaper reports of accidents that say it was attended by a helicopter and the victims haven't been Emiratis. The most recent one that springs to mind was a bus crash, the victims were Indian labourers. It wouldn't really be possible for emergency services to determine the nationality of (possibly unconscious) badly hurt victims of road crashes before deciding how to treat them...

What annoys me about that sort of thing is all the excess foliage/stalk one has to carry about, take home and then throw out! Why throw it out? Broccoli stem is great peeled, diced and lightly stir fried or in soups. Celery leaves and excess stalk I juice.

Maybe that's because some of us have come from backgrounds where we bring our own children up ourselves, not necessarily with family support (I never had any !!) but we didn't have hired help.. Not all expats are comfortable with the maid culture here, especially treating them like nannies which they aren't... It's a public forum and we're all entitled to our opinion... I come from that background, four children, little family support, no help in the early years, a cleaner once a week when I was a bit older. My mother has commented before how much she would have loved a maid and she doesn't know why anyone would feel guilty about having one to help with the daily slog of housework. Luckily just because my parents worked their a*ses off keeping on top of the daily grind with nights out together a very rare treat doesn't mean they think I should do the same and I'm somehow failing because I choose not to.

I'd contact the municipality, I doubt Spinney's would be bothered at all. I once picked up a bag of carrots in the same store, saw it was all mouldy so gave it to a worker, pointing out the mold. He put it back on the shelf... I wouldn't touch even in date Spinney's chicken with a barge pole. It really is one of those things that you are much better off paying the extra for decent, especially if your baby is eating it.

I love my Fisher and Paykel top loader. Would always buy new. It's been going strong for over six years with no problems. I've got four kids so it does a LOT of washing.

We wrapped and checked in a capsule when travelling to Switzerland on Emirates this summer. No extra charge from Emirates although it cost a nominal amount for the wrapping - 20 dhs maybe. Only pain was there was no wrapping facility on the way back so we had to put the seat in the hold unwrapped. I doused it in tea tree oil before and after.

Jumeirah hotels have stamped down on three children in a room. Last summer there was a family checking in before us at Al Qasr with two tweens and a baby. They were being told it was absolutely not allowed and they had to add another room or upgrade to a suite. The extra cost was thousands, they had come from the UK and were saying a travel agent had told them it would be ok. The mum was close to tears, it was awful. I checked in while my husband and three children were at the Madinat, we got questioned about our third child a number of times by our butler dude in the summer houses. We had to pretend he was staying at home with his grandmother in the evenings so we could go out later with the older children. It was all pretty stressful, we've just booked two rooms ever since.

I shall ensure any child of mine is exposed to NIN from a young age. They have a lovely instrumental album to start them on and of course the oscar winning Social Network soundtrack. I hope you have more luck than me! My children [i'>hate[/i'> it if I ever put on NIN and I get mad complaints. Although Downward Spiral is my favourite album which to be fair is pretty dark.

I hold out on giving fruit juice as long as possible and when they do have it, it has to be in a normal cup or glass. My oldest is 7 and juice is still a bit of a treat that they have when out or with friends, just day to day at home they drink water.

Not all of us are privileged enough to shop at Waitrose. Some of us have to make do with Spinney's. Aren't they the same, just a different sign out the front? Tara.k, that is gross. Thanks for the heads up, I don't buy shredded cheese but will be giving their blocks of cheese a swerve too, if they've had some in the heat, they could well have had more. Just bought ready to eat avocados from Waitrose Dubai Mall. Totally off, blurgh.

I agree salsB. I'd just pop bubs in a carrier or on my hip and get on with it. Get them to clear one room first that you can put a pram/portacot in for sleep or quiet space for feeding etc. You never know, your baby might enjoy everything going on, mine loves a bit of chaos ;)

If I were you, I'd exchange it and just tell him honestly. But then don't expect him to buy you something really nice again... I wish Anon. I've been asking him for years to please not buy me things as he's never quite grasped what I like but he keeps trying. I know, I know, I have a lovely husband and I shouldn't complain but it feels like such a waste of money.

I must have been unlucky then - got charged! Was this recent? Because I think they changed the rules and no longer give out the grace period/ Boo! It's been a couple of years since she went over the time so it could well have changed. OP did you end up calling Immigration?

I had the same problem when I wanted to buy a Thermomix last year. I did eventually get hold of the lady and she was very nice but seemed a bit unorganised and never got round to finding a time I could have a demo. I gave up in the end, saved myself over 5000 dirhams at least!

It is indeed a conundrum TDB. For travelling when pregnant I'd say during the second trimester is best. As for after the baby is born, I'd probably wait until they were at least 3 months old. Which of those is preferable I have no idea, you could have a dream pregnancy and difficult baby or a terrible pregnancy and dream baby, you just never know. Hopefully you'll get a dream pregnancy and dream baby ;)

Congrats TDB! Personally, I wouldn't go for all the reasons the other ladies have listed below. I had three text book pregnancies but my fourth was an absolute nightmare after an accident early on. You just never know what is going to happen and for me it just wouldn't be worth the risk. I'd much rather go and be able to relax properly at a time when I had no nagging doubts about whether I was doing the right thing.

Cut in to chunks and add to a very hot pan with a dash of garlic olive oil. Cook for about 1 - 2 minutes, shaking or stirring them so they don't burn. Add salt, pepper and a good squeeze of lemon juice in the last 10 seconds.

Our maid uses her during the day but not if I'm within hearing distance. She can clean perfectly well with hands free so I'm happy to have her work and chat. I wouldn't like it if she was always on it around me, it would be pretty annoying to have a constant stream of Tagalog in my ear. She never uses it if she's with my children (which is infrequently).

It depends. For meatballs and crumbed fish I freeze then cook from frozen as they seem to stay moister (urg, gross word) that way. Bolognese sauce I cook then freeze. Fish cakes I freeze after making and crumbing then fry from frozen.

Wow! 18dhs for 6 eggs!! Worth it though. Like most things, if you buy from responsibly farmed small producers then it's going to cost a lot more than mass produced with little thought to animal welfare or sustainability. I'd much rather go without eggs than buy cheap mass produced ones.

Your needs sounds like ours, we often grab a causal bite to eat, use the pool, work out etc and in that case, aside from the service ([b'>which they are working on[/b'>), we like it and am sure you will too. They were working on it about 5 years ago when I stopped going regularly because it drove me mad!

I have a Smeg induction hob, it's great. I had a gas hob in the UK which I liked but I couldn't be bothered with all the gas bottle malarky here so got induction. I find it just as good to cook on as gas and it looks nicer :) Like you, I'm a keen cook and do a lot of cooking.

I've been to far dirtier outdoor play grounds in other countries. At least there is no risk of standing in dog sh*t in the indoor play areas here. Or human sh*t as my nephew did in a play ground in France. Anyway, indoor or outdoor, it's good for building their immune systems :) Izzy, I spend a fortune on indoor play areas in summer and it's worth every dirham. Change of scenery, blow off some steam, exercise, as much as I loathe them indoor play areas make summer with little ones a lot easier. In my home country if it's raining we don't sit cooped up inside either, it's on with the boots and jackets and off to the playground for all the reasons above. Unfortunately outdoor playgrounds are just not possible here in summer during the day. Evening is not so bad but they are in bed by then.

Beware that dealers' loan are cheaper for a reason. They are backed by the car.The downside is you do not own the car so you need their approval to sell the car.It may cost you penalties for this (like an early loan redemption). If you have a personal loan from a bank on the other hand, the loan may be more expensive but you can sell the car at will as the personal loan means just that.It is not linked to a particular asset. My two cents is to read the loan agreement in details and understand what you are signing yourself for. Good luck.Loans are minefields. I agree with this. If things go pear shaped banks also MAY be more sympathetic to working out a reduced payment plan than a dealer. There were a lot of people who got in to trouble with car loans when the recession hit. Just my two fils worth but if my options were to buy a good second hand car, cash up front or to get a loan for a new car then I'd go for the second had car. Borrowing a lot of money to finance an expensive car is ludicrous.

Personally, I wouldn't medicate. Even if you've tried it before and it's it might react differently on the day. I'd go for the 2nd row. I don't like the last row and I'd avoid bulkhead seats the armrest doesn't go up but if you are in a normal row you can put both armrests up, have you sitting in the middle and have them lying over you. Not so comfortable for you maybe but much better than them lying awkwardly in bulkhead seats with solid armrests. Our flight this summer was only 6 hours but we had two seats in the bulkhead so our 6 month old could have the bassinet then our 3, 5 and 7 year old had three seats behind. They put up the armrests and sprawled. They spent the whole time playing with an ipad and watching movies on either the entertainment system or our ipod touches, they didn't even touch their packed toys. They don't like plane food so I'd taken plenty of snacks. I think 3 is quite a benchmark for flying, things normally get much easier once they are that age. Try not to worry too much, just be organised and I'm sure it will be fine.

Have you got a low wattage lamp or night light in their room so it's not too dark? My children don't like their room to be dark. Scooby Doo does have a lot of ghosts, haunted houses, maybe cut that out. When my children worry about monsters, bad things etc I tell them that I make the rules in out house and nothing scary is allowed in. Then do my scary mummy back off monsters face. It seems to reassure them.
