My DD was at the Um Suqeim branch for 18 months and absolutely loved it. The staff are fantastic, the facilities were clean and bright and she had the best time. I would definitely recommend it.

My 5 year old dd has had it last couple of summers and it does get worse when she is swimming more often. Dr gave her fungal cream to use which helped a bi with the discoloration but didn't get rid of it completely. Wearing sunblock when she went out I think also helped. It cleared up gradually when she didn't swim, wasn't exposed to the sun and when we left Dubai for a couple of weeks. My friend said it is very common is hot countries with high humidity and sweat seems to be a factor too.

I had to see a doctor when I was there couple weeks ago and was ready to pay for the treatment and claim it off my health insurance. However, I went to my in-laws surgery and told them I was visiting and all I had to do was complete a temporary stay form and only thing I had to pay for was the prescription.

- British telly - decent customer service - not having to deposit my bag at the counter at big supermarkets cuz they think I might steal something - more competitive telecom companies so we are not hostage to Etisalat or Du (hang on, aren't they the same?)

I just booked yesterday on www.rentalcars.com for UK. They are agents for the main car renters and one we picked is w/ Alamo. Used Europcar last year as they were most competitive.

Went today as I'd been wanting to get measured properly for ages as none of my bras seem to fit properly (and I've always thought I was a regular size) and was very surprised to be told what my bra size was way off the charts. Ended up ordering a Panache sports bra and a regular daywear one as they've been so busy and have run out of sizes! Fantastic service. Kate was great. Still worth a visit for fitting service even if you think you are not well-endowed.

I looked at the prices a while back and thought it expensive to join. The facilities are good but you will probably get better value joining Fitness First at the Lakes Club. PLenty of good deals at various other golf clubs, if your husband interested in golf. If he is keen to join EGC, this summer only the Faldo course is available to play as majlis is under maintenance. However, if you all want to be at the same place as a family and and cost not an issue then it is a good choice. Montgomerie worth looking at, smaller pool and gym though but cheaper.

I'm a fan of Jo Nesbo and recently finished Headhunters. Think the film is out already. He also wrote The Snowman which was v gd. Just finished reading David Nicholl's The Understudy, easy read. Same author of One Day. Most poignant book for me this year is We need to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver. Am also at a loose end so this thread has come just in time!

You'll be pleased to hear that Troon Golf are opening a pay and play 9 hole golf course this month. It is part of Meydan racecourse and will incorporate some of the holes from the old Nad Al Sheba golf course. Soft opening this month and should be up and running in time for the summer. Montgomerie says they haven't got details of opening date or prices as yet.

It is one of our favourite places to eat and the weather is perfect for sitting outdoors on the terrace. Great food; sometimes they have special promotions on things like truffles, fois gras, etc. and good wine list also.

Isn't there an on the spot fine if you are caught spitting? If there isn't, there should be. In HK it used to be a common habit but since SARS that has changed people's habits which is great.

Villas in Lakes, Springs and Meadows are good to look at for rental and purchase. Lakes is up around 6% from start of the year and there is a waitlist for villa rentals. For sales sellers are getting their asking price. Goes without saying to check out the locations. Across the board it appears that rental yields are around 6-7%. An overseas friend bought 4 Spring properties recently as rental investment (they were all rented very quickly) and for 6-7% it is a much more attractive return than keeping it on deposit. He seems to think that Dubai has seen the worst. I don't know much about AR but I think you get more for your sq ft in terms of space. Victory Heights worth a look too. I can put you in touch with an estate agent whom I have personally dealt (and also helped my friend).

Thanks ladies. My friend suggested the best I can do is take my bill to DEWA office and plead with them and hope that they will be able to give me a discretionary reduction or do a repayment. I can only hope on the day I get someone sympathetic. Will let you know if I have any luck. :-(

I'm in shock. Dewa bill for water consumption this month is DH12,600. (Usually it is around DH1,000 in the winter months). Yesterday a DEWA inspector just happened to be checking the area and noticed our meter was going round quite fast. We checked the water tank today and appears that the ball valve was broken and water was just going straight into the overflow. Anyone know what I can do or had any luck in getting their bill reduced in this sort of circumstance? What can I do? Thanks.

Practice on the roads that you know and stick to certain routes so you familiarize yourself with them then they will become second nature and you can feel more confident. I started out by driving around my area then slowly doing bits of the SZR. Best time to try out new routes and be more adventurous is on a Friday morning when it is quiet. Good luck and don't let other drivers put you off.

We are cutting our huge one down right now after reading that article. I am hoping that the roots haven't affected our neighbours either. Friend of mine in Hattan coudln't figure out for a long time why her Dewa bill was in the tens of thousands and found out that her trees had punctured her water pipes and literally choked her drainage pipes. She had to take down 18 of them. Am going to put in bamboo instead.

Took mine at the time and she had a great time. Small enough place to manage. Just don't go at the weekends, will be very crowded. Also ditto for Ocean Park. And don't leave it too late in the day to leave as there isn't much queue etiquette among mainland visitors.

I heard through friend whose friend is instructor there and they have been given verbal notice that is going to happen but nothing has been confirmed in writing. I asked the guy at the desk this morning and he was vague but did 'promise' that those who have paid up for their memberships with Hayya will not be affected. If it is true I hope it will just be the fitness areas that are changed and nothing else. What happens to the swimming pools and will the Lakes Club be affected much at all I wonder?
