there are a few nice apartments but they do tend to show in the price.... we lived in icon tower 2 a year ago and the apartment size was nice, no applicances but it was ok for the money we were paying.... we paid 85k for a 2 bedroom but when we moved out you could get them for 60k.... however, even living on the 30th floor, we could hear the construction outside and it is still ongoing.... the best thing that i would recommend which is what we did is to visit some of the building and speak to the security, they generally know if there are any available... some have appliances, some dont... some have open plan kitchens etc etc so it really is worth visiting a few.... in regards to traffic, depending on which way you need to go in the morning will also play a factor as the traffic inside JLT on the one way system can be chaotic.... hope this helps...

thanks for the info.... i have just heard horror stories that people have sent their passports off to dusseldorf and then it goes to liverpool and the whole process takes 10 weeks.... not sure that i would feel comfortable being without the passport and the marriage certificate for that length of time... especially when you are not in your home country.....

are these the white ones along al wasl road next to park n shop..... i think they were arenco ones...???? if so, they have been there for several years... i did know many people that lived there years ago and were very happy with them but not sure what they are like now but generally, the ones that are built a long time ago are still in very good condition and they have one landlord which can always be a bonus in some cases for maintenance etc etc.....

no, it is not detrimental but it does need to be registered before you can make a complaint with rera.... i have just spoken to a friend and i believe that rera is based on deira side near to the sheraton etc etc along the corniche but would be best to get that confirmed.... i would say the sooner the better before you start handing over any money.... they may ask for the title deeds but they should be mentioned on your contract.... good luck

hi there.... i am a little confused in regards to having the tenancy in arabic... we have just renewed our tenancy and the only responsibility is to have the tenancy registered with ejari dot ae which is linked to rera but we have had to pay for that ...... the majority of tenancy contracts are already prepared in english and arabic as a standard and for the residency, I was only aware that the tenancy needs to be attested which usually involves a trip to the ministry of foreign affairs... if anyone else has more info, that would be great.....

hi there there is a website called yoodoo or something whereby you can order the card and have it delivered in the UK.... it does not have the personal touch of your own handwriting but they do a very good selection and they are also a lot cheaper than buying the cards here and then posting them and keeping fingers crossed that they arrive...... ok... yep.... just read your question again and it seems as though you are asking for the same thing in dubai.... i only know of companies that deliver gifts... a bit like interflora but have not found one that just does cards.... edited by dubai1990 on 26/08/2012

hi there.... have u had a look on the ejari dot ae website as that seems to be the one for registering your tenancy as you can only log a complaint with rera once the contract has been registered with them.... do u know if this has been done..... as u have said, they did not mention the rental price for renewal and it is best to keep all written correspondance with you when visiting rera in order to prove your point that the landlord has not given you an official notification of renewal if they are not prepared to mention the renewal sum.... is the landlord a single person or company....?? hope u manage to get something sorted out.

i could also do with some help on the psoriasis as have also had it for years and the doctors have prescibed steroid creams but i find that the moment you stop using them, it just flares up again and the creams are not good for long term use so if anyone can offer any advice, that would be great :-)

hi irish101 I would suggest that your hubby has a drive around that area to see what would be the best area.... a few of my friends live their as the rents are reasonable for the size of apartment/villa that you are getting compared with other areas in dubai.... please bear in mind that the project has not been finished so it would be better to take a look before committing as some areas will be more developed than others....i.e. construction etc i would really say that you would need to be mobile in order to live in the area i.e. i do not think there are any amenities i.e. supermarkets near by that have been completed so u will need a car to get around etc etc..... hope this info helps and welcome to dubai :-) I have lived here for almost 20 years and love the place.... it may be daunting at first but it does grow on you

not sure if this will help.... but, generally with most registered postal items, you will receive a white piece of paper in your PO Box saying that a package has arrived ..... then, it will also say what post office it is being held at.... if it is a package that has to go through customs, depending on where your post box is located, it will be the Karama post office at the back..... also, if it is normal post and it is too big for the PO box, they usually also put a note in your PO box advising that the package can be collected at your local post office.... hope this helps someone.... but, as a lot of people have been saying.... ramadan and eid does usually equal "go slow" moments!

hi.... yes, they have an office on shk zayed road.... they also have a website cambridgeweightplangulf dot com for a weeks supply, it is approx AED 250 but they do insist on a consultation first which i think i paid AED 250 for and they talk to you about the diet and what it does etc etc.... it does work but it is hard going and they will only accept people who need to lose at least a stone...... unfortunately i did lose the weight but am having problems keeping it off so did try to do it again but failed miserably..... am thinking of maybe giving the dukan diet a go so at least i can have food but as i said, the diet definately works for losing weight :-) edited by dubai1990 on 22/08/2012

Our friends have lived in Silicon Oasis for years and love the place.... the buildings are not very tall... the rent is cheap and they have a Spinneys, Choithrams, laundry, pharmacy etc etc and it is close to the airport so would definately recommend having a look around there as pretty much all of the buildings come with a pool..... Also, some of the areas are already developed so there will not be as much construction.....

Hi We have 2 cocker spaniels and believe me, they have a lot of energy to use up!! One is 10 months old and the other is just over a year but our saviour was Woof Groomers as they do a daycare for puppies and also older dogs of the smaller kind.... it is brilliant... the dogs get to really socialize and the owner Tania is great with them all. As we also work during the week, we treat the dogs to a day at Woof on the saturday which they love.... you can pay an hourly rate, I think the first hour is AED 20 and then AED 10 for each hour but they also do discount for block bookings. They are open everyday apart from a Friday from 8am-6pm :-) Hope this helps You can find them on fb and the internet... woofdogroomers.com

we have currently signed with a letting agent to let out our house in the UK and they have advised us to complete the form in order to be exempt from income tax, otherwise, by law, the letting agent has the right to deduct the income tax from us each month.

I have lived in Dubai for almost 20 years now and I regard this as my home but the place has definately changed over the years.... It took my husband a good few months to get used to the driving over here and the directions so would definately recommend taking a taxi for the first couple of weeks just so that you can get a feel for the place.... You may be a little disheartened by the incredible heat over here at the moment as the temperatures are high, but, by the end of september, they will start to come down and the winter months here are great :-) I cannot help you with babysitting, but, for the dogs, there is a company called Homely Petz that offer dog sitting and there is also a few companies that do doggy daycare which is great... we take our two one day a week as it really lets them use up so much energy as there are no dog parks over here and it is great for letting them socialize with others.... not sure what type of dog you have, but, we use Woof Groomers and the owner Tania is brilliant and they have kennels and grooming also. This forum is also great and do not be afraid to ask questions when you get here... Happy moving :-)

hi there we have been using conventry tailors in satwa since 1990 and we have had no complaints and it does not matter if u do not go there for years.... he always remembers u! they do have dream girl accross the road which a few use but they do tend to get busy.... in regards to the material shops, there are loads around there so would be best to go into a few and get a price from each and then decide.... my husband had his waistcoats made there last year for our wedding and they turned out great.... good luck :-)

Hi Your pooch may have a skin infection due to the heat and maybe due to the new surroundings if you have not been here long. We have two pooches and we use Al Safa Veterinary Clinic which is on Al Wasl Road... just before Choithrams and not too far from the marina.... we have had no problems with them and they did come highly recommended. Has your pooch got their municipality tag as you can also get that at the vets as they need to wear one whenever they are outside in case they run away and the municipality finds them. Hope this info helps.
