Hematologist are a rare species to find here sadly... I have been searching for one for the past 5 years as I suffer from a rare blood disorder (idiopathic thrombocytic purpura - internal bleeding / hemorrhaging) and the only doc that can treat me are blood specialists (hematologist)... There is one in Tawam hospital, Al Ain but I could never get an appointment so as of now I use a local Physician who follows advice from my Hematologist back in my home country via emails and phone conversations. Luckily I have only had one severe attack here but I was rushed back to my home country to be treated. I've given up my search locally but if you do find one, would appreciate the share :)

My understanding has always been that it’s necessary to wait after microwaving any food for the waves to dissipate, if you follow this method there's no waves left in the food and therefore no more risk in eating food cooked that way then any other. Di@DXB, your are partially correct and partially incorrect. Yes you have to wait after the food is cooked because.... when you cook food in a microwave it does not become radioactive nor do the waves remain in the food after it's heated. What happens is that microwave cooking is uneven, heat does not evenly spread through the entire food so it's best to let the food remain untouched so that the heat can spread / scatter and this way it avoids any unhygienic bacteria to be consumed by the human body. As simple as that.

Burnsie000.... Speak to any radio engineer and they all will tell you the same. We are surrounded by EMFs even before our parents were born n more then your oven you should be more concerned by the EMFs emitted by your phones n electrical cabling running through your home which can cause the so called harm. It's all a myth n unnecessary panic.... Never blindly believe everything you see or hear or have read without researching for your self.

Really sorry to hear your plight on this... Your DH needs to have a chat with her as it's his sister. With a new baby on board, it's just plain wrong to put this much stress on the two of you and you really need to concentrate on your new born instead of an adult. Send her back home, make DH do the talking, stop her from visiting your place period as your home is not a rest lodge. Don't want to sound insensitive but she is an adult and needs to take responsibilities and not advantage of kind hearted people. Even more she can cause far more damage between you and your in laws if she ever gets caught which by the sounds could be any day. Your BABY is your first and only PRIORITY as of now for you and your DH. You need to speak to your DH so you guys can reach an understanding and send her back and never bring her over unless she comes over with the in laws ONLY..... It's too early in your parenthood life to deal with teenage problems :) Keep it calm and stay positive and enjoy your newborn and forget about the rest.... not worth the headache.

In Arabian Ranches only a select few landscape companies / gardeners are permitted to work here... (Emaar rule) check with the security at the gate and they can give you the approved numbers of the landscapers. edited by ecochic on 27/12/2012

When one is in animal rescue... the heart cannot rule the head... if that happens, a mess is created and no help is given to the animal.... we cannot make emotional decisions for a life... we need pragmatic thinkers. Sorry Lolacat and ladies for hijacking this thread.... I really get upset seen the mental state of animals here with these groups.... most of them are ticking time bombs.... having helped out for 2 years with the various groups, I think it's time people spoke out.... the few that are there (K9, RAK, SCADS) are very picky and choosy with potential families but their rates in finding forever homes is higher in numbers plus they work with their dogs and not just pawn them off... edited by ecochic on 07/12/2012

So many dogs now need homes, not enough homes nor animals who have had anytime on them as stated below. Direct correlation with the no kill policy and the animal rescue lots going and rounding up every dog in the DM? Yes!!! I would think as most of these groups (unregistered) always end up releasing the DM dogs and then the poor souls end up from home to home to home.... Great job on saving a life which they are eventually killing silently and slowly!

Good morning Nomad :) Well firstly, Do you see a pack of stray dogs terrorizing neighborhoods??? No. The number of stray dogs are minimal in the UAE. We do however see lots of cats wandering the streets and plain living off the streets. Cats originated from the desert (African Middle East). They need warmth and not the cold and most of the cats on the streets are not longhaired. Shorthaired cats can do perfectly well in these harsh weather conditions it's when we think they are unhappy and take them out of their habitat that the real harm is done. Cats are obligate carnivores... and love their preys for dinner which btw they eat every single day. It's catch and dine for them :D I worked in Jebel Ali and there was only desert everywhere. The amount of Cats within was way too much but all the cats were healthy.... I have even watched how they caught their preys and these cats are not fed any human food. They eat mice and mainly bird. Cats have a high requirement for protein as they use it for energy. They can survive perfectly well on their own. They do not need a rescue group to find them homes.... they have homes already! These rescue groups (unregistered) are not really doing good here, they are causing an even greater problem sadly.... I am just looking at it with a practical and realistic approach and it just don't make no sense....

I've heard that DM has a no kill policy and when the shelter is full they wind all the dogs n let them loose in the middle of the desert. What's so wrong with that??? I assume this is sarcasm. Letting dogs loose in the desert seems like a cheap, generally unpleasant and very cruel sure to kill policy. I say anyone letting dogs loose in the desert should be driven out to the desert and dumped there themselves to see how they like it. It sure is... But again these are the lies the rescue organizations tell you so you feel sorry n adopt a pet even when your not ready.

Lolacat... Superb article... Loved the part of "work with the dogs" before rehoming... Wish these people could read that n not just cause a greater problem. My motto for any dog owner or rescue worker is " always set that dog up for success" and success begins with thy handler n not the potential pet parents.

Wow, ecochic! Well done for being able to stick with it and see progress, many people can't or won't. Actually everyone can if there was transparency to begin with. All these non registered organizations only want their names on the paper... If any of them really cared they would not be parading in the papers but would spend time studying animal behavior n psychology instead on finding foster homes for a day to a week... These are animals n not toys... They just pawn of dogs hence those poor souls end up from home to home till they lose trust in humans entirely. Any professional rescue organization knows damn well to find foster families on long term basis n not weekly or monthly... You are not saving a life, you are KILLING it.... Oh n the biggest thing that ticks me off.... If you already have a high number of dogs for rehoming.... Don't take on any more.... Concentrate on the ones you have... It ain't no competition for Pete's sake!!! Say NO n let them figure out what needs to be done.... I've heard that DM has a no kill policy and when the shelter is full they wind all the dogs n let them loose in the middle of the desert. What's so wrong with that???

Perhaps I didn't explain correctly. I didn't mean we can't have more than 5 sick days a year, we're allowed a lot more than that [b'>provided [/b'>there's a sick note. It's not more than 5 days [b'>without [/b'>a sick note (5 instances of 1 day or 2 instances of 2 days) - ie, to stop people taking the mick. Okdokie... my bad... i got it :)... well then thats good... :)

5 days a year????? and then they sack you? they are operating outside the law and if they did sack someone they could take them to court. sadly a lot of companies do this around this region... they threaten employees and treat them like slaves.... the only reason for this, is the employees reluctance to do anything... so they take advantage... if they do, they get the boot if they don't they still get another kind of boot....

You're lucky your company allow you to take 11 separate instances of leave in such a short space of time. Our company rules allow for 2 days sick without a doctors note, but this is on condition that such occurrences don't exceed more than 5 days a year, otherwise, the chop. Fair enough I think, as I would be worried about the commitment of a person who feels it's ok to take so many individual days as sick, unless of course there is a medical condition that can be backed up with a doctors certificate. I have to agree with Here comes the sun, it's not an entitlement and they probably think you are taking the yellow stuff. not more the 5 sick days a year is shocking... some people are just prone to fall ill more then another... as long as you provide a sick note it should be fine... and as per the new ruling (2 years now) all sick leaves are issued but Dubai Health Authority so there can be no hanky panky business plus it cost 50 bucks to get this....

and when they deduct it they calculate also on the gross salary not on the basic? Oops my bad... just realized you never gave them a sick leave cert so salary deduction on gross (basic, housing, travel, etc). My last company, we could take a sick day without a doctors certificate but 2 days and above and we had to provide one.... JAFZA rule isup to 15 days full gross salary to be paid, 15 days and up to a month it would be half of gross and over a month would be leave without pay.

I recently left a company within JAFZA and was the HR there so here goes the rules.... JAFZA give 15 days annual sick leave which can be taken provided you provide a doctors certificate. The15 days are paid sick leave which include Basic, Housing, Travel, etc etc. If your company is not following this, please contact local authorities. Please check article Three, Point 3 where it clearly states the above. The doctors direction is basically a doc's certificate, Ive checked that with JAFZA in the past. Your company is in violation and BTW this copy is taken from the JAFZA site where all admin forms are put up... http://www.jafza.ae/media-files/2012/06/06/20120606_04-20120606-Employment-Contract-New.pdf

So trying to be nice and offer a dog in need a lovely for life family home i have now given up and will be purchasing one from the UK. Why? Because it appears too many ads stretch the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've now seen several dogs, not one was anything as described in the ad or over the phone (having asked specific questions and explained family needs) I've seen numerous dogs who are not what breed they were described as and numerous dogs with [b'>serious[/b'> behavioural and health issue, and yes, guess what not mentioned either! 100% agree on this point. We recently rescued our 3rd dog (cross breed) from a "Non Registered" rescue organization. This poor dog has gone thru **** with this group. Firstly they kept the dog in a kennel and forgot for almost a year till the bills started mounting. Secondly all their ad's (dubizzle and FB) stated this dog was great with other dogs and loved people and was very calm and peaceful but failed to mention the severe behavioral problems it had. Thirdly they conveniently lost the dogs vaccination card and did not mention about the history of the dog biting in the past nor about the string of medical problems the poor dog had (multiple fractures and various types of infections). Fourthly, they caused the problems simply because since the past 2+ years the dog was with them, the poor thing changed 12 homes.... Yes 12 damn homes.... What does one expect from a dog then???? behavioral issues only... and of course they left this major bit out. Lastly, they were so desperate to "GET RID" of the dog that they did not conduct an interview nor did a home check and the foster mum of the dog was so surprised and upset when they heard that they wanted to get rid of the dog and were willing for it to go to just about anyone who had a garden. How PROFESSIONAL is that... K9, SCADS or RAK aint like this, seen how they refuse to give dogs unless they are sociable or will say openly that the dogs needs to be solo or has bitten in the past. The dog is still with us today as we are not the sort of people who expect that perfect dog and have been working with the dog everyday. We can slowly see progress :) all positive reinforcement methods.... Hence, lesson we learnt.... do not use any unregistered organization in uae... only K9, RAK, SCADS are registered organizations..... the rest are causing more harm then good for the dogs. This is what i tell everyone who want to adopt from such unprofessional groups... the truth. Seriously some of the dogs i have seen need to go to heaven, they will never be rehomed and nor should they be...........................rant for the day. Agree again, as there are some dogs who have just been too abused or have been so neglected or so old that it's best to put them to seep before depression sets in and they take their own life.... It's not cruel, we the people who made them that way are the real culprits. If a dog has bitten the second time after working with it, sadly it needs to be put to sleep... remember sometimes is a neurological problem which no one can help. Oh and while on the rant, all those pro importing from that company Eu*************y, well amazing how many are now available for new homes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Point well proven about buying dogs on line!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not against buying pedigree's but with the way they make them today it's cruelty for the poor animal... look at the pugs, cavalier king charles spaniel, rotties and labs and other wonderful breeds... poor dogs are bred to their deaths and why??? just because we humans want to make money on them... most of these breeders do not do basic DNA test and most of them are products of inbreeding. So when buying your pup... make sure you get a clear bill of health from "your" VET first. And what is becoming more clear is that some real clueless people own dogs and have not an iota how to treat or train a dog! Don't want to get started here but I personally think the Government should have a serious interview process for pets (globally) as people just don't know the how's n why's or anything else.... evening walk... walker is glued to their phone... dog on an extendable lead... dog seen cat or bird... dog runs across the road.... walker still glued on phone.... dog run over / gets stuck in a bush.... walker still glued on phone and will now pull the lead while still glued on the phone.... grrrrr!!!!!

Blondie007 is correct.... Most commercial Ayurvedic cures hold a high amount of steroids... Actual Ayurvedic treatments however are safe... But to find such, one would have to travel far... Maybe across sea's... Never fall into the store bought treatments traps and never hesitate to read ingredients or ask practitioners what they are mixing n if it contains steroids.... Make google your best friend... Not all herbal is nonsense but it has become a commercial business just like allopathy...

Lenochka, it was called "Ace "ruined" my Christmas" and seems to have been removed, probably at the request of the OP who was being "gently teased" in the way only EW can do, about her definition of ruination :) It sure was funny :) well we do get all sorts of them here in Dubai :D, we do need a bit of entertainment and fun on this site as well... Coming back to what everyone back home thinks of people who live n work in this region... Seriously, it kinda gets annoying when family and friends take it for granted that we are all sheikh's here, swimming in a pool of oil rich wealth and when I tell them of the hardships everyone is faced with, they just don't get it... they are all fixated on the fact that this country is 'Tax Free' but in reality things are expensive... just like we would have spent that % in tax back home, here I spend it on bare necessities and living a decent life and trying to save as much as possible as this still is not my permanent home. Like they say... the grass is always greener on the other side.... :D Oh and the media does not help... media propaganda focused on celebrities having their lavish parties give the rest of the world a very wrong picture.... But over all I will say, I do like my life here, even though there are the bad days, it's still how I choose to live it either here or else where...

Since the past 3 months i've stopped using any face wash or moisturizers on my face and have been using something called "the oil cleansing" method. Initially (first 2 1/2 weeks) I got tiny boils and pimples but after that it's all clear... except, just before I get my period I get a tiny pimple here or there. Oil cleansing method is quite simple... read more and for directions... http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/ I do this twice a week but I started by doing it once a week as my skin got dry. I moisturize my face with olive oil or coconut oil when needed. Once a week I also make a simple home made face mask 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp chickpea flour 1/2 tsp cream (milk cream) 2 drops of pure rose water. Make a paste of this and apply it on your face and leave it for 20 mins or till it dries up. Turmeric is antibacterial while chickpea flour reduces the size of pores.... you could use egg whites, but I cannot take the smell of it for 20 mins on my face :D

Aluminium in general is really bad for the human body. Apart from Alzheimer's there are a laundry list of other long term chronic health problems. My father in law is an orthopedic surgeon who swears that cooking in foil or uncoated utensils transfer small amounts of aluminium to the human body which in the long run and the amount of consumption and exposure causes a variety of bone and joint diseases. My dad has been a Medical rep. all his life and we were never allowed to cook / store food in aluminum products. Till today I only use Glassware, cast iron and stainless steel. Teflon (non stick) has been a strict no no with my family and in laws since forever. We cannot run away from it as we all do eat out at some point or the other but if we lower our intake we are at least taking precautions.

Ive used this guy since the past 41/2 years and have recommended him to many people. He is really good but tell him you have a doggie or a kittie and he will send drivers who are pet friendly. Best is to give him at least an hours notice if you do not live near the freezone. His name is Saabeer and mobile is 050 5648998. He will give you a receipt for you journey too.

have to agree with simpleasabc here. agree with what every one has been writing in but what ever you do, you need to first have a calm chat with your daughter and let the father be present also, remember she feels she is becoming an adult so explain it to her that way. Let her know how things could turn and bite her and the family in your backs in a foreign land (scare her about loss of job and then relocating back to home base). Tell her the dangers she could be brining to her siblings (if she has any) and how the law of the land is against any relationship (weather teens or adults) out of wedlock and how they arrest both if not the expat in these places. Before going to speak to any other person, you need to have a friendly chat with your child. Be firm but remember she is at an age where firmness can lead to rebellion which is not so great. All the best and don't forget to stay calm and positive always!

As per the UAE Federal Law, breeding for sale is ILLEGAL in the UAE, hence there are only backyard illegal breeders and most of those pets are un healthy sadly . Let me try and find the engilsh version of this law for everyone to read and see. Most reputable pet sellers never house locally bred pets hence most of them have international passports. edited by ecochic on 03/12/2012

Every race has its own "black sheep". And I stand firmly, no matter what your origin is/where you came from/what you've been going through in life, you still have no right to deceive/mistreat/hurt/abuse anyone. Though standards differ from one country to another, yet the basic concept of good/evil is almost the same. Peace:) Well said Eunice, we all forget that we are Humans first and irrespective of countries or class we have to do our part to continue living in this world and escaping from work or trying to deceive is a straight no no even if your working with an organization.
