as long as it is not a ceramic hob....baking soda applied dry (quite alot - you want to end up with a paste), and then scrub with half a lemon --- it seems to get off the toughest grime,....something to do with the reaction of the BS and the acid of the lemon, the juice comes out of the lemon and forms a paste, keep on scrubbing with said lemon and it should disappear. Also, in my experience, if you microwave the lemon half for just 10 seconds - it seems to clean better.

Yesterday I went out for coffee and one of the waiters asked my son his name and where was he from. When he answered'Pakistan' he goes on to ask him 'Who won the match?'My son answered Índia' and the guy started to do a victory dance.:) *aww* Cute - I can totally understand the victory dance: if the match had turned the other way, I'd have done the same myself

Loving this thread. Yeah Veena and Meera are the Mallika Sherawat and Rakhi Saawant of Pakistan. Love to hate them and follow them through their various silly gossips and rumors. Q: what did Meera say when she saw a crocodile in the zoo? A: haw hayeee look it's Lacoste TI Liking this thread! And this joke cracked me up.... :) Hey does anyone remember Vital Signs. Can you guys send them over to have a live concert ?? Still love their songs. Love Vital Signs. Unfortunately, the brand broke up ages ago. And the solo singer, Junaid Jamshed, has also stopped singing. So that's a no for the concert but can send you some clothes over from JJ's collection: they're hot :)

Babylons, Feel for you - too bad you are unable to drive. If you don't want to take cabs and want to get a legal driver for a period of time then maybe you can contact http://www.saferdriver.ae/services.html A friend used them when she broke her leg. She said that their initial quote was a bit high but she told them that she would be requiring their service for 3 months and would only need the driver during the week and during the daytime and they tailored the package to her requirement. It was still more than what a cab would cost but she was happier in her own car and not having to wait for cabs and she and the driver got to be pretty chummy so he was very helpful with her groceries and stuff :)

Since this topic has come up, can any o the Pakistani ladies on here please tell me... is Veena Mallik really the "new, modern, role model" of the Pakistani youth? EYO. Read that in an article somewhere after her big TV outburst at some imam or someone. I have to clear this up. a) Please do not think that Veena Malik is representative of the majority of Pakistani's. b) Though some people admire her for taking a stance against an Imam on television but I wish that she had coupled common sense with her confidence. c) However, in the mentioned incident - I think that the views of both the Imam and Veena Malik were at two extremes and that the Pakistani youth is [rightly'> leaning towards the middle ground.

The taxi booking service has been bad - not just for the last few days but for the better part of the last month. I think part of the issue is that everytime I have got in a cab, I've seen the message on the cab lcd flashing "You have been offered a job and not responded, you will not be offered a job for the next 3 minutes." Obviously, the cab drivers do not care about the 3 min penalty and would rather try their luck with people on the street or mall flagging them down. I've suggested to the taxi company that they should introduce a monetary fine to cab drivers who repeatedly ignore jobs from the call center. If more people make the same request, maybe they'd take notice.

This is a bit extreme but a MUA I know [and one I refuse to go to beaches or waterparks with anymore'> wears Kryolan's aqua proof make up. WM, It has been fun! :) p.s. I'm slightly upset about the sun, as I was told yesterday; had it continued raining today, the match would have been postponed to tomorrow, and if there was bad weather on Thursday, the match would've been shortened to a T20 format and if that couldn't happen - Pakistan would've have qualified for the final for their good behavior [i.e. better run rate :D'>

You can check with the Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding [their website is http://www.cultures.ae/'>. I am not sure of what classes they are currently running but they used to have lessons in spoken Arabic that were conducted by native speakers. The sessions were in total 12-18 hours and were about AED 1250. They also had a more comprehensive class that covered reading, writing and speaking and was 40 hours of class time at AED 2350. Personally, I can recommend them because the instructors are very approachable and willing to help after-hours too. Plus they include the course materials in their course fee and its nice to have a dvd plus book to refresh the language after the duration of the session.

fairytale, I think a major contributing factor is that I have to socialise professionally with people for either breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner everyday. I need to make healthier choices when I'm eating out because I favor creamy pastas, cheesy pizzas and chocolate desserts which I know are not helping me. Plus when the people I'm meeting are smoking or having shisha - I tend to order even more high calorie foods :(

@em2san the process you refer to is MNP - Mobile Number Portability. It has been available in the Uk for 10 plus years but only now can they get their act together here, probably sometime in the next few weeks. Personally whatever network you're on I wouldnt recomend changing because the system here is not robust and I would anticipate quite a few problems with no form of resolution. I didn't mention MNP cause I wasn't sure how many people would know what it stood for :) Actually, I'm very excited that they're finally going to have it in UAE because someone told me that they "might" even have an option where I can use the call and sms service from Etisalat but the mobile data package from DU - that'd be pretty cool!

Good on you for giving up smoking as I know from experience how hard it can be. Carrying a little more weight than you would like is much better than setting a poor example for those around you or succumbing to the plethora of smoking related health issues. A BMI of 23.4 is perfect for most adult females especially if you have above a B cup bust and/or an hourglass shape. [i'>And for the record HAK is an absolute stunner from head to toe. Actually if you read the country profile, you can view UAE's ranking for each indicator and UAE does rank 7th for indicator 1.08: wastefulness of government spending. UAE country profile is on page 337 of the report and the details of efficiency of government spending is on page 373 of the report. ETA: Just read the report in more detail and I'm quite impressed with the number of indicators in which UAE has a rank of "notable comparative advantage" edited by em2san on 28/03/2011
