So how does the white point system work? I recall last year them saying people who didnt receive any violations would be rewarded.... But I never saw anything :-(

I am glad Irooni found this thread, she is one of the positive posters you will find here with an established post count. I don't know Irooni at all so there is no story between us, I just know from EW posts that they are happy with the school, and Irooni takes alot of effort out of school to get her children "tooled" up, i recall a post last year I think where you were looking for the end of year revision pack months before it was required. Committed.. So while there are positive reviews it is difficult to guage as you don't know what kind of people we all are. Some are happy for kids to do hours of study before and after school, tutored to an inch of their life, others don't want that for their kids, some as Dinks say have nothing else to compare it too. So it is very difficult from an outside view to decide. Most of my friends have left, some were there from day 1, schools they have gone to are Kings and DESS, none have had any regrets. Only the OP will know what kind of environment will suit her child, the hard part is trying to read between the lines of us lot... <em>edited by emlsnre on 14/11/2013</em>

I've used EW for around 7 years, reading the forums, getting info etc but never bothered signing up as don't want loads of e-mails. It wasn't until I was having a cuppa with a regular on here last night that she asked how the kids were getting on at R and she mentioned this link. I promised her I'd comment as that's what the lady asked for, Views about Repton and that's what I've done. I certainly wouldn't call myself an "ardent fan" but the school works for me and the kids. If the other ladies don't want to read my comments because I have only just signed up then fine, doesn't bother me one bit. The school situation almost had us packing this year.... and seeing the winter coats in shops now makes me feel like getting back for a bit of cozyness, that or an afternoon in ski dubai :-) 7 year itch then? :-) It must be. Gosh I wish husband had got the job. I love Dubai but I'm ready to go back now, especially building up the Christmas hols. Christmas shopping just isn't the same without my wooly hat and gloves

You've got to pay $29 to read reviews! Are these real or do they just give you a taste of some shockers to get your cash? Have heard similar from people who had worked there, so believe there is some truth in the reviews.

http://www.internationalschoolsreview.com/international-schools/repton_school_dubai.htm You might find this useful but you will have to register, its written by teachers at the school. Here are a few comments from teachers... My experience at Repton School Dubai was not good... They have 11 cases raised against Repton School Dubai in Dubai's courts by teachers who work there. There is no respect for you.... The teachers at Repton School Dubai are wonderful, amazing people, but also.... Promises are made and broken. This is NOT what it says on the.... Accommodations offered at Repton School Dubai was not as promised and some new staff were even pressured into living in.... Was going to suggest this also....

It's worrying as putting your child in a school like that could seriously change the child forever. Confidence, self esteem etc is what we all try to build up in them and I don't want a school changing my dd. Emlsnre - where is your dd now and is she back to herself. Thanks Deb If you have a contact email happy to talk.

Beach Grill is lovely, they did have traditional Christmas Dinner, and also alternatives such as steak. There was a menu for kids also. Lovely dinner and we also saw Santa on his camel making his way along the beach. There were some dressed up and some dressed down, smart casual would be fine.

I am concerned about the impact it will have on my daughter. Going from a lovely school to that is worrying. My daughter is not the most confident so I worry she will just go backwards instead of forwards. Our dd was the same and by the end of last school year was a different child, no self esteem and very closed off :-( As I said, its not for all children, depends on what they are used to. But when we came it was the only school with a place available.

Our dd went to a brilliant private school too, 2 classes a year 12 kids in class. Very nurturing, and I have felt sick to my stomach taking her from there to here. R has upto in some years 11 or 12 classes in a year, 22 kids a class. We knew it wasn't going to be the same as home, but hadn't appreciated how very different an environment it would be. But as I have said some people love it.

I didn't work until our dd started school, but found another great job that utilised my skills and then some, and it worked around her school hours, and her school bus dropped her off outside the school I worked at. So it all worked out great for us. Hasn't happened here in Dubai, so my life is a little different but you adapt.

There is no right or wrong answer, it is down to how you feel about it. Many have no choice but to return to work and others just want to work. I had a great job in IT before we had our dd, and I was very driven and loved what I did. I had it all planned to return to work after she was born. However, once she arrived my plans were thrown out the window. I didn't want somebody else spending all day with her, and as others have mentioned they are small for such a short time and it is precious time that you cannot ever have again.

Its easy for us to all say chill out, but I get your frustration. Stress levels are a b#!ch where weddings are involved... I was on jury service, the case was initially 6 months long, and then 8, then we tipped into the year, then 14 months and on it crept! We finished deliberating 10 days before we and 16 guests flew out for the wedding. Fortunately I can look back and laugh now, at the time everything is magnified, but you've done the most important bit 18 months ago. Forget everyone else and just focus on you and DH having a fab day. I'm not much use for hairdressers, but the girls in Ted Morgan are great and I think they are open on a Friday, try speaking to them or the owner and explain, the owner is lovely and I am sure she would do what she could to help. Like some others I haven't a clue when it comes to dressing, so smart chic woukd result in me wearing jeans and a silky top, you will laugh about all the shinanigans eventually trust me. Have a super day xx

Hi elk1977, for info, if you intend to rent out your UK property complete the 'Non Resident Landlord Scheme: Approval to recieve rental income with no tax deducted' form (Sorry cant remember the number of the form). Good luck with the move. I vaguely recall it being an NRL1 form http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/international/nr-landlords.htm <em>edited by emlsnre on 05/11/2013</em>

Can I ask those of you that have received 12mths notice from their LL - HOW exactly this was served please? Is it true it MUST be notorised and served officially via courier? No email? sms? letter left under door etc... I know people have varying views on this, but the RC advised us and LL in order for there to be no arguement he should provide a notarised eviction notice including the reason for eviction and have it sent via signed for delivery. He did this and we are happy with that, we have an official document stating that he wants to sell it without tenants and he knows that we know the law around the rerenting rule, no excuses once we are gone.

Hi Cymraes.. Are you still at The Villa? We have about 8 or friends here who have all been through this this year. Stick to your guns, keep it calm and factual and in writing. It can be intimidating but you get there in the end. We received our notice this year, so will be moving on next year...

http://www.dubailand.gov.ae/english/Tanzeem/Rentals/for_landlords.aspx This says 90 days notice if you are moving in with your family! My understanding and our experience was yes we were given 90 days notice by LL that they were not going to renew. So our lease expired in the June, he gave us notice in March that he was going to serve eviction notice. He served the required 12 month eviction notice in June 2013 and we need to leave in June 2014.

I was doing a clear-out yesterday and found my sony diskman! You are more than welcome to it -- but I'm in Doha so not sure if there's an easy way for me to get it to you. I have friends heading to Dubai for the half-marathon but that's not until next month. If you know anyone coming to Doha I'd be happy to pass it along! That's really kind of you, and if I cant find one before then I will definitely drop you a line.

Do they even still exist? Everyone uses MP3 players these days. A personal CD player would be so big and clunky in comparison. Any particular reason why you'd choose that, over ripping your cd's into a digital player? To help you out - look at ebay - lots listed on their - many in original packaging. edited by FairyDust on 02/11/2013 Quite... but it is for my dd Listening Therapy. So the CD's are created specifically for her, they wont upload or compress the files as it affects the quality, that was my first question. I thought we could get away playing it through the xbox system but not recommended either :-( I think Argos sell them but was hoping to just grab one from here..

Are you sure ? the website says 500dhs admission fee. When we applied a few years ago and got turned down, they didn't take the 500dhs.May be things have changed since then...... Absolutely positive.... Just checked the email and we had to pay 300 on application last year.. So maybe it has changed since you applied.

Very different schools, it is good that you can come and take a look for yourself. There is a cut off come the third week in January where internal transfers aren't permitted, so any availability following that will go to people coming from overseas. DESS has a lovely community feel to it.

I might be wrong but I think it is April not January when only children from outside Dubai are allowed to join schools. I'm pretty sure internal transfers are allowed in January. Not sure if it has changed but internal transfers were only allowed up until the third week of January this year..., I had always thought it to be a January cut off but could be wrong.

We printed the documents out and went and they confirmed it had to be notarised... Difficult to argue the law when its printed and put in front of you. Except that it NOT what the law says. This is what the law actually states: [i'>And for the purpose of clause (2) of this Article, landlord must notify tenant with reasons for eviction at least twelve months prior to the determined date of eviction subject that such notice be sent through the Notary Public [u'>[b'>or[/b'>[/u'> by registered mail.[/i'> So registered mail is sufficient. So long as it states the correct information. But people who are being told that an email advising them of 12 months notice is not valid. Our LL was told in order for there to be no doubt that he should apply for the eviction notice and have it notarised and delivered by a signed for method. Which is what he did. There is no grey area, all aspects of the law have been covered.
