Hi, The Autodrome has an endurance race for 24 hours once a year and that can be noisy depending on which way the wind is blowing but other than that you probably won't notice it at all! Don't let that put you off the area... The Ranches is a peaceful area to live in. HTH

Hi Jay14, It all depends if you are going to be running it as a business or not... Will you be trading? Will you be meeting clients? Will you need a bank account? Are you offering a physical service? Will you be officially "working" at the website? Will you be paying anyone for doing work for the website? Will you be actively promoting/ advertising the website? Will anyone be wanting to pay you for advertising? Are you selling products? If so you are going to need a licence- depending on what kind of website service you are providing a Virtuzone licence may work- you would need to check their categories though as most are consultancy themed and see which you would fall under. If not, you would have to get a licence from Tecom for one of their freezones, which would also involve an office/ desk rental fee. If it's more like a blog, with some small revenue from google display ads, hosted outside of the UAE and you will not be selling anything you should not need a licence. You could always go and talk to the business advisors at places like Virtuzone and Tecom and see if they can advise you. HTH a bit- and it's always best to do things above board here as the penalties are steep if you get caught/ reported. EW Admin

We've got a big list here with contact details of all the animal welfare support groups on this page http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_charities_Animal_Charities_Rescue_Centres_Dubai_1249.aspx They all have puppies and dogs for adoption- there have been so many abandoned this year- it's such a shame- am sure you would find the perfect pet for you and be helping the rescue places out massively as they are inundated. Dear xN, We're so sorry about your phobia- we all know they can be hard to overcome and completely irrational but hard to control. If you're looking to live in a villa you can get good pest control services to come and spray for bugs on a regular basis and they can also do outside as well so you can have a pest control barrier around your villa too. The cleaner you keep your villa the better too... you can have more control than in an apartment where you are reliant on your neighbours being clean too. Sometimes when you first move in to somewhere there can be bugs if it has been left unoccupied for some time- these would normally be in the kitchen or maybe bathrooms. A good dose of pest control from a company and yourself and they will be gone never to return. You could get them to do your villa before you even move in for your peace of mind and get a cleaning service to do a deep clean of the villa too. You don't normally see bugs when out and about in the newer areas of Dubai, so it's not something you need to be on look out for all day every day you'll be pleased to hear. Bugs that are in Dubai so you can prepare yourself mentally... not saying you are going to come across these but just so you know... 1. cockroaches- in dirty/ unoccupied areas but still quite rare to see out and about 2. flies- annoying ones! Keep your fly screens across open doors and windows 3. mosquitoes- in areas with water- there never used to be any but more now 4. Ants- they come in to houses for food crumbs- so keep a clean house and you'll be fine Here's our section about pest control to maybe help you learn how the pests can be got ridden of http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_Pest_Control.aspx Maybe do get some counselling, or do some research on the net on overcoming phobias and maybe trying to take control of the situation in advance may help you relax a bit as well.
