Oh btw, are the timings accurate? The thing is that the incident happened at 5:30ish but the SMS said it was 6:43 and I was in Ajman at that time but my dad did take the car to Sharjah at that time and forgot to renew his parking ticket. If he had gotten a fine for parking, would the SMS still say "traffic violation"?

unfortunately for the people who have lived here a long time will tell you, that that happens a lot, and you can plead your case, but if they have decided that you were wrong, then you just have to accept it and pay the fine. Is it possible to know exactly for what did they fine me? I got the SMS but its not there on the Dubai Police website. So, could it be a mistake on their behalf? I will go to the Police Station and talk to them about it...hopefully, they will resolve the matter. I have been driving for almost two years and I have never gotten a single fine before. So my history of traffic violation is clean.

If the guy had a stop sign and shot out making you swerve, he should have been given the fine..........but this is Dubai and even the Police don't know how to drive. Yep or know what an indicator is He didn't have his indicator on. I believe that I didn't even cross my lane....I have a tiny car so I don't need that much space....I just moved a bit towards the left side and the lane lines were dotted I guess. When I was getting my training, I was told that I can cross those dotted lines, but not the solid straight line. I hope I am making sense.

On Sunday, I was driving in Sharjah and lost my way. A nice taxi driver was helping me out and I was following him. As I was following him, a couple of cars were coming in between and I almost lost him. So when I was driving along the road between Chachoos and Safeer mall, I didn't give way to the car that was trying to come out from the Safeer mall side. Even though I didn't give him way, he dangerously tried to come in so I had to turn a bit towards the left side and overtake him. (The left road was for U-turns only) I believe that he was supposed to stop as the "stop" post was on his side. A police nearby gave me a fine for that. Can he do that? Apologies for my horrible English, I am not a native speaker.

You can try Sephora if you want. Last year, during the beauty week (?) event at Bur Juman, I picked up these brushes from a brand called Ever Sheen. I bought a set of 4 brushes for 35 dirhams and the quality is absolutely amazing! I have been using them about thrice a week for a year and it is still as good as new. I believe they now have a shop at Bur Juman....I picked up mine from their stall and they were kinds enough to offer me some freebies as well :D

I only buy online (not lazy... Just tired of malls plus have my hands full) and have never paid tax for importing... Only 2 bucks if its via post or courier then charges are included. I mostly shop from US stores. Sadly not all ship to this part of the world. 2 bucks? I thought it was more. How much was the total value of your package? Anyway, how do you get your other stuff? Do you use something like Shop and Ship? The shop that I currently have an eye on is also based in US so I will really appreciate it if your detail the shipping process as I have never ordered anything online.

Not sure if this will be of use (if you haven't already got it in your possession) but I use the Royal Mail's "International Signed For", which so far (touch wood!) has been a very reliable and relatively cheap way of getting stuff sent from the UK. I primarily use it for my study books, which my Mum packages, takes to the Post Office, and a few days later they are with me... How does that work? Could you please give me an estimate of the costs associated with this service?

We have never owned a dishwasher before and I really want to get my mum one for her birthday. The features that I think are necessary are: 1) Half load function 2) Water and energy efficient 3) Intensive feature ( since we are Asian and we eat a lot of curries and sticky food) 4) 14 place setting 5) Adjustable racks We are a family of five but we frequently have a lot of guests over. Price doesn't matter. I just want to get the best for her.

It might not be suitable for your home country but I'd love a women only bar with dancefloor! Being able to have a few drinks and a dance with my friends with no risk of sleazy eyes and cheezy lines would be marvellous. Haha! Thats a great idea as well! Might work, you never know! :D Thanks for your opinon! :D

I would like a gym with highly qualified personal trainers. That has all sorts of exercise classes. Pool, gym spa, coffee shop, restaurant that makes good salads and light lunches. Library, Spa, hair + nail salon and pay by the hour child care facility with trained nannies that have activities for all ages so don't have to rely on hubby being home to look after kids. Basically a combination of DUCTAC and Dubai Ladies club would be perfect. Also the option to pay your membership yearly, monthly, weekly and the option to pay as and when you want to use the facilities. Hey Starsouthern! Thanks a tonne for your opinion. Some of my friends suggested pool and gym but no body ever thought of the child care facility. Maybe, its because we are too young? :P Anyway, I was thinking of having a little room for movies as well because women over there can hardly go for one due to security reasons. What do you think? And again, thanks a lot for your opinion. I really appreciate it :D

I had it done at Imperial Health by Dr Gauba, it's not the most pleasant experience in the world. But I'm v v happy. Apparently I now have 20:15 vision, 1 step better than 20:20 :-) Hey magicgenie, I would really appreciate it if you could give us a details of your procedure. Did you get SUPRALASIK done or some other procedure?

I have been learning arabic online and I must tell you that this lady is amazing. Her youtube username is : LearnArabicWithMaha. I think she is excellent for beginner classes so why don't you give her a shot? Plus its free so you won't lose anything. So after you master beginner course, you could go and spend your money on intermediate or higher level classes but for beginner lessons, I don't think its worth spending your money.

I had my supralasik surgery done at Imperial Healthcare by Dr Gauba. My vision is great and I'm so glad I chose this procedure over the other options. My DH also had it done and is doing great so it really is as great as it sounds! As far I know, it is only available at Imperial for now as it German technology which has been fine tuned by the experts at Imperial to make it safer with less risk of dry eye - very important for the climate in this region. The procedure was very easy for me - took about 30 seconds per eye!! The first couple of days were a bit uncomfortable, but once settled apparently my eye now looks like nothing ever happened because there was no cut or flap. The great part is that I can see perfectly and eyes are very comfortable with no dryness...highly recommended - great service with great results. All my friends I have sent to them have also had similarly amazing results....Good luck! Imperial Healthcare is on 04 4393737 Thank you so much for your reply. Apparently, the procedure is better known as Supralase so that's the reason there was a lack of results on google. Anyway, I did call them up and the receptionist seemed a bit lost. However, she connected me to the nurse who asked me to come for a consultation. I guess since my vision is not stable yet, I will wait for a few more years before going for it. They say that your vision should be stable for at least 18 months before considering any kind of corrective eye surgery. Anyway, may I know how much did they charge you? And how long after the surgery were you able to see clearly? I would really appreciate it if you could give me full details about your procedure and experience with SupraLasik.

I intend to buy a blow dryer from amazon.com and since the item can't be shipped internationally, I intend to get it by the Shop and Ship service. Can anyone please tell me how long will it take to deliver the item to my place? I will be flying out on the 8th of August and want to have that blow-dryer with me before that. Do you think they will have the sufficient time to deliver it if I place my order today using the Standard Shipping (3-5 business days) option? I would really appreciate if if you could share your experience here as I have never ordered anything from Amazon before.

I'd be VERY skeptical. I googled it as was also interested and the only pages that come up are the supralasik.com site, their Facebook link and Imperial Healthcare. And when you click on Imperial Healthcare there's something wrong with the site! hmmmm... Oh yeah, not enough links to it. But the Imperial Healthcare site is working fine for me.

I agree that the mixer looks pretty small, but you could always use a bigger bowl and hand hold it. It may be worth looking on Dubizzle - there was a Kenwood Chef on there recently. edited by jillp on 08/05/2012 Thats what I was thinking...use a bigger bowl. Yes, I did check out dubizzle before...the kenwood chef titanium is for 3300 AED! Besides, my parents will never let me buy one considering how much time I spend in the kitchen :P

I have one through NBAD but I find it pretty useless since most places to do not accept these kinds of credit cards as form of payment. The charges start to add up to top-up as well. I haven't used mine in almost a year, not even sure if it works anymore. Really? I was planning to use them on Sukar, Amazon and Shop&Ship. If they don't accept it there, then there is no point in getting them. Have you tried using them to shop online? <em>edited by Flames92 on 13/04/2012</em>

I am a student looking for a prepaid card mainly for online shopping. So which one do you think is the best? Till now, I have had a look at the nbad's one and the RakBank one. Nbad is clearly a winner in terms of charges but still I am not sure. So anyone has a better one in mind? I will really appreciate your opinion about it :)

Thanks, Ladies. I just checked with Aramex and they DO have an online advance payment function, so life is good. Appreciate your help :) are you absolutely sure that you can pay for shop and ship on line though..... if you can that's great and is a new feature - just check that it's not regarding a normal shipment would hate for you to sign up and find it won't work for you. The on-line payment option for delivery for S&S isn't new, its been available for quite some time. The only disappointing thing now is they don't have the 10% discount anymore for prepayment. Hey Pom, you do realize that the thread is over a year old right?

I am planning to clip the offer on Cobone. Could you please tell me what problems did you exactly have with the company? Till date, I have never used a mail-forwarding company so was planning to start with this one. I can only find reviews from the ones residing in Kuwait...not in United Arab Emirates so please help me out.

http://www.cobone.com/deals/dubai/sky-net-ushop-weship-dxb/7624 What do you think of this? I have never used a mail-forwarding company but my bro uses Aramex's Shop and Ship. One advantage of this over the Aramex is that you have the option to choose when your mails get shipped (monthly, bi-monthly,etc) plus its cheaper than Aramex...almost half of it! So people, please let me know about your experiences with this company.

It is pretty close to Chelsea Tower...the Etihad airways one. If you know where the Financial Centre metro station, you wouldn't find it difficult to look for it as its just a minute away from there by walk. You can see a building with Tim Hortons poster all over. :)

I bought a plant for 10 dhs and have been using that. I mainly use it on my skin as I am sensitive to most stuff available here and I would definitely recommend it to everyone! Dear Madam, I would also like to purchase Aloe Vera Plant. Dr. has guided me to eat the fresh gel of Aloe Vera daily with honey. Kindly please let me know where can i get it and will it grow inside my flat. My uncle got it for me so will ask him the exact location. I remember him mentioning the industrial area in ajman though...not sure yet. The plant is very easy to grow and it grows really fast. I just keep it in the balcony with indirect sunlight and water it every 2 weeks or so depending on the dryness of soil.

thanks for the details, ladies. I can barely drag myself out to the nearby malls on my day off--so it is helpful to know what to expect at this outlet mall. Which seems to be, don't expect anything in particular. I was wanting some new jeans, but hate to spend $$$ when I know they will be loose in 2 months. So I guess jeans was the main item I was after. Can't wait to get some new whites though--I am a towel and sheets junkie! Just don't have the storage for many spare sets in my apartment. Sale at DKNY! All jeans for 70 dhs at Bargains Outlet
