I am also with Dr Wafa @ Medcare and am 35 weeks (today). I had my son with her in 09 and she did an internal exam around this time then as well so it's quite normal for her. It didn't bring on labour even though I was already 1cm dialated at the time. At the next appointment, I had a sweep and another a week later (I was 2cm by that time) and I went into labour on my due date.
Like previously mentioned, they don't like you to go overdue here for some reason, hence the sweeps etc as 38 weeks. If you don't want intervention, by all means, say so as they can't make you and she is pretty good at following your wishes. Admittedly, first time around I was desperate for him to come but am in no hurry this time - my only concern is trying to avoid the c-section she'll probably try to persuade me to have!
