This link shows exactly where it is - its not really near the wholesale market but on the road that goes out to the industry area from e-ring (Al Muntazah Street). The guy at my work whose job it is to organise RP's told me yesterday that they have just changed the system and that you have to register on line now and that they give you an appointment for a medical. Not sure if that is 100% true and I hope not as it seems less efficient - we had a guy arrive last week and he has been given an appointment for 30 January!! <em>edited by GinaM on 06/01/2011</em>

Medical place is still the same - the fingerprint place changed a little while ago from just off salwa road (near hardees roundabout) to out of town on the Saudi road.

You do the eye test and get your Qatar licence all at the same place which is the traffic department off Khalifa Street. If you are coming from the city then go through burger king roundabout and about 100 or so metres up (before the over pass) take the right slip road and you will see the traffic department on the right - you'll turn right and then right again and its there...where the masses of people generally are! :) You need to take your oz licence and a couple of photos (and if you are sponsored by someone other than your husband you need a letter from them saying that you work for them and also a copy of their company registration). You'll have to get the forms typed in arabic but there are men there that will do it for you for QR10. Its all pretty easy and painless.

Are you renewing her passport because its damaged? Or is it just the page with the RP on it that is damaged? If its just the page with the RP then why not just get a new RP visa put in if that is possible. Otherwise, if you have to renew the passport then get the passport renewed first.

Ah...just busy with work! :) Plus I do need to kerb my shoe addiction at some stage! No doubt I will make a investigative trip down to Salam next month though just to check out what is there...am having some heart palpitations though as I have to go home to Oz for a wedding on 4 February for a couple of weeks - no doubt my husband is hoping that timing is right for major cost savings (as in no spending) while I'd like to think I could make some cost savings before leaving! :)

Just got a text message from Zai on Salwa Road (next to the Mercedes showroom) saying that they have a special sale starting tomorrow on Lanvin, N. Ricci, Antik Batik, Barbara Bui etc. Haven't been down to look (obviously! :) ) so no idea if it is any good but I have got some great bargains there in the past including a gorgeous pair of Halstons reduced by 90%!

I've used Century Tailors and they have been good/OK for straight copies of shirts but shocking on suits and evening dresses (and I'm talking straight copies here too)....definitely not a ladies tailor. Am about to try out a new one for a copy dress for a wedding I'm going to so will let you know if they are any good.

Does it really matter if she is good ?? Doesn't matter if she is good but the problem is that when you use a forum like this and someone puts a post on you are assuming (quite within reason) that its another person out there who has used that service and can vouch for them. If someone just advertises themselves (without admiting that its an advertisement) then how do any of us know if they are any good...its pretty deceptive.
