the companies that pay the accommodation allowance they pay it per annum, say they pay 12K per year, when they fire him - let's say on the 6th month of the duration of the payed allowance - so he can not encash the rest of the 12K, he actually owe the company 6K, so yeah, he is not getting this money, he actually can not finalize his papers and leave the country as the company won't release him for the sake of those 6K when companies pay that allowance in advance, only coz they know LL won't take month by month - most of them....

Thanks ladies. I shall start again! When booking online with Emirates you get to a page where you choose your flight time aircraft etc I am Getting a choice between an ER or a 777 Jet W T. F Does that mean aircraft undecided or do they actually call one a Jet? WTF!!! why should any airline in the world tell the clients which ETOPS operating aircraft should he/she choose !!! :\: sorry to say: this doesn't concern the passenger at all what type of ETOPS the aircraft is flying under it. this is the concern of the flight planner/ flight dispatcher who do the flight plan :\::\::\: edited by Gorobattie on 21/09/2011

The 777's come in two variations, the 200LR + 200ER and 300LR + 300ER. LR = Long range ER = Extended range. It just basically means it's a bit bigger can carry more people and go further - that's it. it means: it's approved for Long rang ETOPS or Extended Rang ETOPS the difference is the approval for operating ETOPS when it comes to cross water mass. actually, to keep any cake fresh as much as you can - either it out of ready mix box, home made or bought from cake shop lol - place it in air tight box(flip container) with piece of plane bread, yep bread will get drier and the cake will stay fresh and look like you just baked it a day only.

Serliana, my only advice is: block her on FB block her and don't think about her, after all, DH is married to you, not her. by thinking of competing with her, you will lose your sanity in this mad race. and the only winner will be her not you. don't think about her, and try to be yourself, if you see there is something you can do with yourself like new hair do, new clothing style please do, copying her won't give you any benefits, it will only make your DH have a second look at his ex, and this what you don't want him to do.

Just follow the instructions on the back. to have the cake raise beautifully in the oven, sift the ready mix before adding eggs or the oil. better to use oil that have no taste or smell - sunflower oil is the best -. better to add the oil, water and eggs slowly while having the mixer on low speed. bake the cake as per the temp and time on the back of the packet. for better results, after getting the cake out of the oven, keep it in the backing container on a wire rack for half an hour, this to keep the walls of the cake standing and not to go soggy, the remove the side of the backing container on the wire rack for another half an hour. sure you can do the icing while waiting for the cake to cool. use a spatula to spread the icing on the cake, if you don't have one, then use a knife. At home! bake 2 cakes, then decorate them your self, with your DS/DD, bake a pizza at home, and some cookies as well... make the goodie bags at home, and make some decorations from C4, and send invitation cards to your kids friends.... use plastic knives and forks, and paper plates and paper towels..... this is what I do.

Irony? considering your views on the less fortunate in life. ???? what about it? coz it's deferent between being friendly, and be friend with.... still, I can bet none of you will be a friend of maintenance man / laborer / or the gardner.... each one will be friendly from a distance, but to be a friend is a hard work, like any friendship in the world, you need to have same interests, thoughts, ideas, which this won't be happening at all. so you want to prove you know better, or anything you want please show me, at least I am clear, I don't friend any body is not having the same situation like me, it's my choice, you can't force me to be the friend of those people, by attacking me and saying racist - racist it differentiation based on race - like some posters called me on the other thread..... before trying to clean your self by sticking accusations on me, I am going to say this one last time and won't talk about this any more, friendship is a mutual understanding between 2 people, when it become forced one one of them, it become extortion . so, I hope this had cleared your ideas, and stop accusing me of racism, coz I'm not racist. edited by Gorobattie on 15/09/2011

that remind me of a word I heard it many moons ago, me and DH went to rugby 7's, after the party after the finals, we got into our car, drove, then been stopped by the security, asking us to take an injured woman with broken leg, she and her other 2 friends, were way beyond drunk, It was dark, so the security did not see me, and he was from DH side, telling him this, we didn't want to involve, we offered to call ambulance for her, then I remember the man saying: they are European like you sir! then I opened the inside light, so he can see that I am no european or white! he just shut up! sure DH took them with us, but I was boiling, so europeans only deserve to be helped and none just leave them? by the way he was an arab man, not a local, I will never ever forget this words. never forget the looks to me and DH, when there were no children, every body try to ignore my presence, as I am not even equal to be his GF, then the shocked looks when any one see me pregnant walking with him.

so what laziness you are talking about? sorry but not every body can afford being back home, other wise none of us will be here ;) If you choose to pretend that expat kids who dont do even the most basic of chores because "its the maids job" arent lazy then i dont know what to say.... Maids need to work as they have families, the smart families are the ones who have their maid clean, wash clothes and lend a hand in other chores, not the ones who have the maid do everything, and their 18 year old son incapable of even ironing a shirt maybe there are kids do not do any thing for themselves, but my children are not from that kind of children, my 5 years old dress himself, and do things for him self...actually when I find my maid doing things for him, I tell her - not front of him - that he have to learn how to do things for himself, teaching him to respect every body, and doing things by himself..... sorry but I believe maids should help in the house work, that what she is paid for, raising children is mum's job. so many times I keep reminding her to be firm with him if he be come nasty - specially when it comes to lolies - and he tries to do his trick on her, after it failed with me.... back to main subject, no I am not lazy to hire a maid, I need her, and she needs me, and back home I can't hire a maid, and won't coz I have family to help me - leave LO with them till I finish the cleaning - no brainer for that... but I did not see - from what around me - those brats whom the maid do every thing for them.

Nobody can comment on this if they do not understand the mindset behind it all. So much to learn....really..... Anyway, next vacation why don't you go with your maid and stay in their house. My maid cannot wait to get back here, and has only gone home twice in 6 years, she cannot stand it there. She likes all her mod-cons and having a window that she can close and central air conditioning and meat/chicken/rice served 3 times a day......4 freezers to choose from incase those meals are not enough. Bread? Brown, white, seeded, rolls, Lebnani....you name it...she cannot decide. What to put on top? Nutella or jam? perhaps some cheese and milky tea. All of her salary straight into her bank account back home. She is a Boss there, owning 3 fields, one for rice and 2 for corn. She is the Queen Bee. But she knows none of it will be possible without this job. So much to Learn? The lesson to be learnt is the future of Middle east societies, maids and cheap labour will do nothing but damage for the long term of a country and its natural inhabitants. Look now at the obesity and diabetes rates in the region, blood pressure, heart problems, the list is endless and expats too. I overheard a rather large (obese) western lady today walking with her maid explaining she had to be careful as she had blood pressure issues!! [b'>Laziness, a culture of laziness creeping through producing generations of lazy people. Expats breeding like rabbits because the help is cheap, is this a reason to have children? Children who turn around when asked to do something and state it is the maids job,[/b'> just had a child here today who stated that, her mother was mortified. Really this look how well i treat my slave/maid nonsense cracks me up, if they were treated that well they would not be working for an unfair wage and working the hours they are expected with no ownership. edited by QF2011 on 15/09/2011 Actually, the family and the maid have children, when you plan for life, life happens, not every body will delay having children, plus expats contracts covers up to the 3rd child only, after that it's the responsibility of the father to cover: health insurance, education fees, airline tickets..... maid work as maid coz they have children back home, so children are the really the mover for any body wants to work....being lazy hmmmm, well look at the fact that it's the only option for families over here, If you really know; to sponsors a member of your family it will be a humanitarian basis, coz to sponsor your mum or mother in low, she have to be divorcee or widow, the prove the relation, and renewal every year...... if sponsoring a sister she have to be single, divorcee or widow and renewal every year.....sister in low not allowed - she is stranger to the husband - and the list goes on and on.... then splitting the family, having only the husband here, and the mother with the children back home.... which will bring down any successful marriage. so what laziness you are talking about? sorry but not every body can afford being back home, other wise none of us will be here ;)

I would do this: First tell them That I don't want any body to sit down on my door step. If they continue, then I'll open the door with a bucket full of water and say it again no body sits her or I will splash them with water, no response then the water will go every where..... and for a day or 2 I keep the water splashing every 1/2 an hour . Second: the noise, I will bring a video camera, document this, then call the property management for this building, then show them the video....next time, call the police for them.

Anyone know if the law varies from Emirate to Emirate? I was just at a hospital and a heavily pregnant lady came in seeking medical attention from an ob/gyn. She sat behind me while a member of staff was taking her details. Twice the lady confirmed she was single. I am certain she was a tourist. I was curious to know if she is likely to face trouble or if it is discretionary. :\: that worth knowing! if a tourist, single and pregnant, happen to pop into a hospital in UAE, would they detain her? what will happen to her and the baby?

I'm really sorry if I used the wrong term, as most of you can read my posts, I am struggling with english all the time. but really as this is really close to my family, it made me re-think about so many stuff, I remember when this ante come to visit us every week, and her son with her, I remember my Father used get both of them a special cutlaries (spl? sorry) and cups only for them :\: and this made me think: why have this kind of treatment? I didn't get it at all, surely made me love this ante and her son more and more..... now he is very happy with his wife, and their son, so we keep the contact all the time - as much as we can - hence we are in different countries, but this one as it was so close to us, it had opened my eyes wide on many things around me. still, I believe the education have to go side by side in the same schools all around the world.

you should read the leaflet with every medication, as some of them you have to throw it after one month after opening, it will tell you when to bin it. some can stand more up to one year. for children stuff like calpol, after one month of opening I bin it, I always keep sealed one at home, as many of you know kids can feel sick any time of they day specially public holidays.

The real answer does not lie within the below posters' comments, it lies in the large number of people who've read it and responded with 'no comment'. [b'>Having a disability or handicap in this country is tough, I can't speak for other countries as I've never tried to work in those work forces.[/b'> Actually, most of the ME countries think - sorry for this, I know it's rude but the uneducated majority of the people do believe in this - that the mother and the father had down something wrong and bad that's why God punished them with a child who suffers from a disability - mentally or physically - and the bad thing is... errrr... well it's about when the mother conceived that child, it happen in unorthodox way...... I had an Ante who married her cousin, and it was catastrophic marriage, she give birth of 3 children, each one had his own handicap, 2 of them died under the age 3 years old, only one survived and he is now married - we were happy for him - the husband divorced her thinking she is cursed and she only give birth bad ones!!! he was such a dumb man.... and he casted his only child from her away from him, he remarried again and had children, and never give a thought about this boy.... so it is very strange to find people who claim they are very religious then do this to children..... In my opinion, they should have education go side by side with other children, in the same school, not to separate them, so every body is educated about every body, and not feeling this strange - uncomfortable feeling - having them in your vicinity. :\:

This one is not funny, actually it's serious issue concerns hygen and food poisoning in the place that have the thread name on.... today, just before 11 am, me and DS after his orientation in his school, he asked me if we can go to that fast food restaurant in Jumairah Beach Rd.... I asked the attendant if we can have the happy meal, she told me: sorry maam we only have breakfast, so it wasn't DS choice so I ordered instead the big breakfast with apple juice. after both attendants talked in their own language one of them told me to have a seat then she will bring it to us, DS went to the play area - yep it's the one that have inside play area and party room - after 15 min she come over and asked what exactly I ordered I told her big breakfast and showed her the receipt , then went back, I just kept keeping an eye on DS, after 5 min she come with apple pie as apology for the delay :\: as it will take another 5 min.... then she come with the meal, before she give it to me she said sorry maaam we don't have sausage, then I told her fine, he will be happy - it was almost 11:30 - then called DS for his meal, once I opened it I find a strange looking mustard thing look like it's made of wax, I just wanted to know what was that, with knife just made a cut, to see that it was once upon a time a scrambled eggs!!!!! I took the box as it is, then went back to her and told her what is that, the biatch just with indifferent face told me this what I ordered, I told her I want to to eat this thing front of me, she told me we are not allowed to eat during work!!! her manager was overhearing what was going on, not even pretending to show himself as the person in charge.... then I told him what is that? then he said sorry we are out of eggs as breakfast time is over!! I told what I want is respect, if they don't have eggs you can simply say you don't have same way you said no sausage, and this wash't what I wanted in the first place, but your staff made me buy this, which by the way is food poisoning in a box. the sod just said this eggs had been made at 5 am this morning... I told him this is a lie, this thing have been eggs 3 days ago, and you dared to keep it in your fridge then heat it up then serve it to your clients, I wonder if the municipality is aware of this? then he stopped talking and just kept listening to me - the 3 of them - with blank faces. I just told him you will hear from Dubai municipality. went home managed to get the # - by the way it's 800900 - and made complain....surprise surprise, someone yesterday had the same complain about the same place - that was said by the agent that I lodged a complain with..... after 40 min only, an inspector called me back as he was looking at this place until he parked his car front of it, as he said he is going to investigate the complain(s)...... this was my experience with this place, which now become a forbidden place from today on...

For the drainage, you can put down the drain soda carbonates (spl?) down the drain then pure hot water after it, this should clear the drainage. As for the fridge I really can't give any advice only just keep the fridge close and the freezer to keep the coolness inside until you bring someone to fix it in the morning. Did you checked the sockets? maybe it needs changing/ or you have high voltage in your house and it is the problem...after all you need the handyman to check this out for you. For the A/C, I guess the problem is in the compressor maybe it need replacing, hence they try to fix it and it doesn't cool at all or cool then stop cooling... I guess LL doesn't want to change it and want to keep things as it is. other wise if it's not, then they need to inject gas, as it could be the problem that it had leaked when you were in holidays ..... Good Luck, you need it all.

blah blah blah You are kind of a nutter. If I am at a coffee shop and I strike up a conversation with a woman, it wouldn't matter to me if she was a CEO's wife or his maid (or her maid!). Nice convo is nice convo. I'm not going to run screaming if it turns out I'm richer than she is. If someone knocks on my door at 4am or constantly shows up without an invite, likewise it would not matter if they made 2k a month or 200k - don't knock at my door at 4am! I don't see what social class or your definition thereof has to do with it. You sound so much like textbook bourgeoisie that it is hilarious. Who says that these people are so in awe of your money that they would be angry and overcome with jealousy just by being exposed to you? I think if anyone becomes angry around you it is because of your craptastic attitude. Maybe, like so many other expats in Dubai, they are just looking to meet new people and make new friends. tell this to the looters in london riots....let's see if they will get this point. I don't friend people whom are richer than me or not earning like me, my definition of friendship: people we share same interests and situations, like a single person won't understand why a parent doing this or that, coz they haven't been in that situation, a women I had a conversation with her in a coffee shop and we want to meet again; means we have common situation so a possible friendship could happen, but having conversation with a cashier girl won't get out of simple sentences and won't develop to friendship...there is a big deference here.

been away from laptop and then it was my time to read throw... okay ladies, have your laugh at me, yes I do so much spilling mistakes and my laptop helps me to make it worse. when some become a friends, it's a mutual agreement between the 2 people, when it happen against one of them it's emotional extortion. if you ladies want to friend the gardner and the car cleaning man or the security good for you, but this is not my cup of tea. as I said I can be nice from a distance but thank you very much, I don't want to be a friend of people who are not like me and I am not like them. like this lad, I guess he will be a wonderful friend for each friend of you - please do as you all liked him so he can take you to mumzar park - but no I am a bad person for this....have any one of you democratic women give a thought about being a friend of less fortunate people? well you have to go to each others houses, then you can see how miserable they are, then you start feeling uncomfortable about talking about any of your brunches and going to wild wadi or hatta, fujerah or your little getaway to any exotic place - threads are all the place talking about this - and don't mention you have to show them your LO, which they don't see them every day like you, or they see them every 2 years, or they don't have at all coz they have to support their little sisters and brothers coz money is not enough.... then tell them about how much you pay per academic year for each child, how much you bought this dress or that shoes or any thing their eyes will see, sure you won't lie and say it was donated to you or it was inherited to you by late granddad or grand mum.... then one despicable woman talks about giving MASSAGE to those unfortunate people mmmmm I think you are the one who gives any male passing by this type of treatment so you thought every woman do the same like you...sorry you started this type of comments so please drink a sip of your own drink. sometimes being nice is to not show the unfortunate people who have nothing to change their situation a look at what could happen if they were holding different qualifications e.g. ( being a white woman or a white man with nice passport from a first world country ) which no proper education and yet get nice villa or apartment , nice family , nice job and nice life, then you allowed the hate and the anger to build inside those unfortunate people to turn against you and bad thing always happen from a close encounter from 2 different types of life when their streams cross...well it will be like a train crash nothing funny about it. Road to H*ll is paved with good intentions. talking about charity then insult doesn't make you better than me, heck no it just made have a deep look at you, you are just a lonely woman who * thinks* she is white and coming pom land makes you a better bread? thinking you are going to teach me democracy? how to be friend to news paper man? well, he is all yours next time you hop back to UAE.....if you are coming back. edited by Gorobattie on 05/09/2011

Very interesting gorobattie In this case the poor newsboy didnt try anything morally wrong as he was trying to contact your DH and not you . But yes, it was definitely odd for him to call at 4am. I am not sure i would have threatened him with the police, but then again it was not my door he was knocking at 4am ! maybe this is your point of view, but DH didn't know how to deal with unwanted wannabe friend with him, he told me he doesn't know how to tell him to back off, and all what he was concerned was he could hurt his feelings then he get us ripped news papers.... surely I acted in the way that I find it effective, maybe I was wrong, but heck, I don't want to be friend with someone who is lower than us socially, maybe he is a good man, but I do not want us to be the friends of laborers/ cleaning man/ security man or the news paper man. when that had stopped DH said thank god he finally got the massage, then I told him no he got my massage. take it or leave it, but when you come across this lad, please do be friend with him if you don't like what I have done...after all what concerns my husband concerns me, and what concerns me concerns my husband.

CT you are right, we live in a place full of lonely people, they come from different background that misunderstood the ( being polite gustier with being interested in them) that reminds me several year ago, when we had a subscription with gulf news, that my husband once he asked the boy/man how is he and when he will get give vacation as he was delivering our news paper for over a year.....( and that was my husband mistake) the news paper boy kept asking me how is sir, where is sir...instead he drop the paper and go like he always done, he started knocking the door - it's frecken between 4 and 5 AM :\:) just to say hi how are you - to his new buddy my DH !!! - and I told my husband about this 180 degrees change in attitude... DH didn't understand and thought the boy wants some help, next day DH answers the door and tried to talk to the boy, he just said how are you!!!! then this kept for another 4 weeks, I just kept ignoring the door bell - we didn't have any children in that time - until it was an evening me and DH just having and evening in, and the door bell rang, it was our paper boy with a woman, he introduced her to be his girlfriend!!! In that point I wanted to ask him to p!ss off otherwise I will call the cops, DH stopped me and told me let's hear what he wants to say.....a half an hour later this paper boy all what he wants is a social visit!!! he thought that we want to be friends!!!! DH told me he doesn't understand this and do not know what to do. so I took the lead and told them we are going to bed now as they showed up without telling us. they left. again I was naive thinking they understood the hint....no way it gone worse, as he thinks we are friends! DH didn't want to do something in that matter, and he refused me intervening in. But Heck this was my house and I don't have to hide from any body, one morning he kept ringing the bell - DH was away - then I opened the door telling him what? he said good morning, I told him what time is to say good morning? he said oh sir is here, I told him actually sir doesn't want to see you, and he is not your friend and you are not our friend, and our friends don't ring a bell in godly hours to say good morning or how are you.. and this all have to stop as I am not going to entertain this any more, one more time this happen I will call your employer another time it happen I will call the police. I can't say more that he did not do it again. yes he was lonely, but I am no social worker to help him. no this is his job...specially that he wanted to invite his family and us out to go to mamzar park :\: any way, moral lesson: please please please be nice to those types of people but from a distance, if they are doing a job in your home and you are alone, please don not smile, if you have to offer something offer bottled water - not in a cup as they will inter prate it another way; they will think you want to create more opportunities to communicate with - don't be tempted to ask when there vacation or if they have family member over here, don't interact with them in any conversation they will think you want to know more about them...... as for OP.....neither you or DH, but I believe you have to do it, as he might think that it's only your husband...tell him why he is ringing your bell? tell him he have no right to ring your door bell as the rubbish is waiting for him in the barrel(spl?) this is not acceptable at all. Good Luck

Is it compulsory to have an Emirates ID card? My DH's company are saying that if he does not get one, they will fine all staff daily from October. Your advice would valuable. Sorry to ask: what kind of a company your DH is working for? they seem very rude and want to rip off their employees!!! :\:
