Hi Clair, It really difficult to determine or tell what exactly you are expecting, each department in Emirates and Danata have it's own benefits and this goes to the salary - sure-... they have the Grade system, which means grade 1 is less than 2, grade2 is less than 3 and so on... You said you are going to be in the English department ??? is it a teaching job? assuming so, if it is, then you will be grade 7, that entitle you for benefits, like free emirates clinic for you DH and children - not sure about how much you will be entitled for child(ren) tuition fees payed by the company, how much you will be entitled for the accommodation allowance: a) if you decided to take the money, you will take it every 6 months or b) if you got the company provided accommodation, which you don't pay DEWA at all, enjoying the free mind of watching the bill :D, in this case you need to provide how many ppl will be living with you ( you, DH,how many child whether inside uae or out of uae, house maid, mother or father) then as per this they will provide you with apartment .... initially as grade 7 you are entitled for 2 bedroom apartment, but if you have a big family, they will give you 3 or 4 bedroom apt) again I insist that every department have different entitlement for it's employee, and the entitlement for the grades still defer. So good luck and hope this post give you some hints about what to expect.

Hey CC, it happens to every body, the clever woman whom stop the tide before it hits her marriage. Been there done that, try hiring a babysitter - this is a MUST - and on the long run try hiring and agent maid, you need a plan to work it and work your plan! as other posters advised you, when your DH come home - 1/2 an hours before he arrive - leave every thing, dress on something s*xy - not too much, okay skimpy cloths, some lippy on, have your hair brushed and tidy, and were perfume, the babysitter must be the one takes care of the kids, and all your attention on DH, if money is short, dine at home and go out for a walk only you and him, use scented candles at bedroom, this will put DH for the mood - you know what.... make sure at least one of his days off it's only about you and him, try going out with him wearing nice clothes and make-up, some men got attached more and more to their wives once they see other men admiring their wives. and the lest goes on, I know this will be difficult in the beginning, but you need to do so, as DH shown the danger alarm, that he gives excuses for not being with you, and the next step will - God forbid - looking out of the marriage circle to another women.... Good Luck you need all of it. And Hugs for you. xxx ETA for typo, so Sticky Wicket won't laugh on me :P edited by Gorobattie on 10/05/2011

Thank you na115 and Crystil. I have been through both sites, and it's very informative, so thank you very much. The site you shared with me Crystil is very good, it helped me to re design my CV and cover letter, as I needed to revamp my cv, coz I have been in a very bad luck the last 3 years in finding a good job, and no one return back an e-mail or a phone call, even when I send a request mail for a respond..... Please Ladies wish me luck getting this job, as really I feel very down not getting a job at the moment - this moment is continuous since late 2007.

[i'>Expat kid here. I miss the simplicity of everything that was available to expat kids those days. I DO remember the pepsi bottles that were ordered by the crate and had to be returned to the delivery guys.[/i'> Yep, and it wasn't only pepsi, there were Canada dry drink, Crash the orange taste and the berry in very low counts.... lol [i'> does anyone remember this orange drink called Sunkist, its been discontinued in the Gulf countries. Sorry, "is rejected"! you can ask the Gyn to shorten the thread - if this is the right name - so you won't pull it out by mistake, that what I had before. again, yeah you maybe be right, as the Gyn if not really know their job, he/she could move it from it's place if you have to have the pupsmir(spl?) thing.... That shop is Satwa - near the bus stop - is way too much expensive, 3 months ago, I needed to buy a little sewing machine for a little girl for her school projects, the man in the shop said it worth 450 aed, tried to bargain with him, he didn't move a dirham! I asked him if he will give me an international warranty, the sod tried to fool me by giving me arabic UAE warranty from his drawer and it's for Singer, not Janome!!!! I asked him where is the Janome Warranty, he said NO this is the Only warranty I can have in UAE!!!! I just wanted to tell him to Fob Off, coz this is ain't my first time to buy one. Then went to Janome dealer, and found the same one 350 aed!!!! and they could provide me with a janome warranty, unfortunately only UAE and ME but a Janome warranty and the dealer stamp on. The Janome dealar in in Nayef, Dubai.

I don't think it is about the number of posts, its about the sorts of things that the poster is writing about that make the difference. I'm always a bit sceptical who post chapter and verse about their personal problems for the first time, unless they say they are posting under another name for the sake of anonymity. I think most genuine posters start off with something trivial like "where can I buy marmite?"! I think also there are a few posters out there whose very few posts follow a similar theme, like for instance they are all about hairdressers, or dhow cruises, and these are not genuine. Sorry to say: I disagree with you. When someone say their own personal problem anonymously on a forum, is to have another anonymously point of view, maybe she can't find any help from whom around her, and wanted the strangers behind the computers. the part of making another user name is the part I don't really understand; your Original user name is made to keep you anonymous, so you make another anonymous user name to hid the identity of another anonymous user name? that doesn't really make any sense at all - unless in Lala land . you will be surprised to find people turn to the very strange ways and methods to find a solution for their problem(s), looking at we are all expats. regarding to ladies who says wind up or troll or any other word like so, I think they are either lived a very sheltered life, living in their own high tower, or they are just pure brats who have nothing to do only to gang up on a poster or posters, then do what they do, until the thread got deleted..... I'm so sorry if I waken up sleeping dogs, but I assume when anyone make a user name on a forum - any forum - they choose to hid behind that user name just like wearing a mascaraed mask, but the beginning of my post, it will look like you are wearing couple of masks over each other, just to attend the mascaraed. LoL that needs another place, like a quit place with a man or a woman with a note book and he or she listening to your memories about your early childhood. Rant over it, I'm off to bed :P

I didn't cook in my family's home coz my mum always told us the cooking is the job of house lady, cleaning is for any body else :P cleaning and doing home chore was always falling upon me as I was the eldest.... when it happen i become in relation with DH - that time he was OH - we were eating out most of the time, as we were working long hours, and have no energy to do anything when come back home, then got married and still the same story. Once we had a baby, then it was a sudden shock, I found myself the only open bar in the whole UAE for the baby, DH didn't move a finger to help, instead started to tell me that I have to be a house wife!!! so another title added to me with no benefits ( employee+wife+house wife= only the salary of the employee) in that time didn't had a maid, only a casual baby sitter, still I do every thing.... Then it hit me: babies and children need routine so they will feel better, no one told me how to raise a baby, me and the Internet and what to expect books whom really helped me. Then I managed to start doing things and cooking, going to work and ask friends help, as DH was so against the maid thing. Now it's a second nature, but you don't find yourself suddenly a perfect housewife - this is in movies and soap operas only- it will take time, it took me 2 years to start doing this, and every day I learn something new. My advice: Don't take your mum style as you are not your mum, and PLEASE don't try to imitate him mum style coz you will never ever be half of what his mum's style ( as he thinks his mum cooking and house running is great and I can see it's totally Rubbish) So be your self and take your time and don't let any one run your home, after all t's your show, and you are the Star.

To the OP, I feel you, I had a similar experience like you, that was in NZ in 2009, We lived in a very good neighbourhood, that one night, I was up for making a phone call to my family through Internet - that was around 3 or 4 am - the children are sleeping, DH is far at work - shift work - then I started doing the last check on doors and windows to go to continue sleeping, I left the door leading to the garage from inside the house last thing - it leads to the laundry room and the through the kitchen door - as it have to be slammed to close, knowing that I left it not closed, after carrying out all my checks, went to that door and found it closed! In that time I just hold my breath not to scream, as I didn't know who was there, I was at the kitchen took the biggest knife at the counter, mu phone in my pocket, then went to the children room, called DH that someone in the home. I don't know how I managed to act like I didn't know about the other person hiding in my laundry room - I think god give me the strength that time - I kept online with DH until he reached home, he checked the laundry room, the intruder had gone. not telling you DH thought I was imagining things, when the morning come over, I went to my car in the garage - to get a cigi from under the driver seat " the secret stash" then found the seat had been adjusted? and no cigi's!!! 2 days later, the next door house their car had been stolen from their garage, so I was right. since that night I couldn't stay alone during the night, I couldn't have the good night sleep, and every couple of hours I open and close any lights shoeing from outside the house. and when got over tired, I leave the tv on and go to sleep - as it wasn't our home to make adjustments or do any further security adjustments. I assume that the burglar got into the car and was sitting their for long time, waiting for me to go to sleep, so he can open the garage and drive my car away, when he got board - thinking to himself that I won't go to sleep to night, then he/she left the moment I was doing the checks.... I'll never know at all. Just to tell you: follow your guts feeling, don't wait someone or any one to tell you this is right or wrong, If I could that time; I would have a big dog, but I have allergy against their hair. and do what ever make you feel safe, either in dubai or any part of the word. Take care and stay strong. edited by Gorobattie on 21/04/2011

the maid will always tell all sorts of accusations - unless she have no evidence on your friend - like photos, passport photo copy, or any thing like that... did your friend obtained any kind of documentations toward sponsoring this maid? this will be - your friend - evidence for the good well and will be against the maid. if not, your friend have to do a mass clean up - changing phone numbers, cutting access for the maid into the house/villa, not letting the children - if there are - with her at all costs. Tthen she can wait till the good moment the maid and the man with her - so called husband - are out, then she and her friends change the locks and through all the maids stuff out in the trash bin, this will be very good for her, as the maid diffidently will not report her self to police - she will be deported and will be in the black list. she can do this even before leaving the country, and definitely the maid will have nothing against your friend. just make sure she through the maids stuff in the bin - the big one which the trash truck collects - this way nothing could hurt your friend at all, and if the maid tried to pull her bluff to call the police then you tell her you will call the police for her coz she is a trasspasser(spl?), and wants to work illegally .

There are nothing to be done, all what I can advice, is your friend pack her own stuff and cool down the situation with the maid from h*ll, then she have to have more friends to be with her while packing her own stuff - to keep an eye on the maid and her husband- then leave the place... another thing: did your friend tried to call anonymously the immigration to check what really she can do in that situation? or the another thing: wait till the last moment before leaving here, wait till both are not in the MQ, change the locks and through all her stuff out in the rubbish bin. that will give her a very good lesson - and her so called husband.

My dear, your dad's jains(spl?) are alive in your younger brother, he will be the same, your mum doesn't want to face the truth, and having the Helsinki syndrome, Ignore your brother, try to be nice with your mum, if you can, you and your other brother both can take care of your mum's treatment, and remember to live your life in the process. I have a similar thing to you, but not to much fights - well we fight all the time - and my mum stand by her other children, and ignore me as child for her - me too I started my life away from family, become a supporter, then after I stayed at home, surprise surprise, no one care about me anymore, last time I had visited my family home, I had a fight then My brother and baby sister wanted to through me out of the home - forgetting this is not their home either, and if I didn't call them, no one will call...... get over this, 10 years from now, your young brother will find himself alone with no proper education, and his friends will have their own lives, but don't fell to emotional extortion dear. Good Luck.

Perhaps u shud consider shifting to Al Wasl? Their pediatric department is excellent and one of the best in the country. When my brother was arnd 2 months old, he had high fever, vomiting and all and my parents went to 2-3 different doctors.. the poor kid had blood tests done and it was a terrible time. Anyways, he was finally taken to Al wasl where they confirmed he had menengitis. Of course, all this was 20yrs back, but i am thinking thier facilities ar even better now. Hope your child feels better soon. Second that --> Wasl Hospital

Posting here as I need advice urgently and there's way more traffice here.... DD applied for FS1 but she is very mature for her age group (she misses the age cut-off date by 10 days) and as a result got offered FS2 as they thought she would not be challenged enough in FS1. She went for another assessment and because the school strictly follows the age restrictions, they are sticking with FS1 and offered her FS1. I prefer this school to the one that offered FS2. So my question is: Would you go with the grade (of choice) or the school (of choice). I know she will be bored and unchallenged in FS1 though.... I am considering letting her do FS2 and then trying to get her into Year 1 the following year but again that may not be guaranteed (because she will be FS2 age according to the guidelines) so she would be repeating FS2. What would you do??? can you tell the name of the schools? I'm trying to find a school for DS1, till this moment, can't find.. thanks

It will be easy to follow, only you need to spend the time watching it, not go for side talks, or go and fix your self a drink... when h*ll freezes over... on a second thought, no she is pure evil, when ever she have any chance, she have to prove that she is evil. c'mon I had just give birth of my last baby, he was only 3 days old, the whole family visiting my home, not a single help to me, had to serve every body, then she tells me front of every body: you didn't lose weight at all!! Then I gave her the answer she deserves: well last time you give birth was half a century ago, I guess you had forgotten about every thing relates to femininity... I guess since then I don't have in-law's visits.... Heaven!

Oh Dear! How long this maid was milking you and your family? coz I would love to work for you if you are willing to give me all what I want.... Only one question: if your DH can do the same? I mean, can he pop in to his boss all the time asking for loans and salary advance? I don't think so, why did you put up with this Biatch in the first place? can you have this attitude with your husband? if you didn't have what want - such as like a dress or anything like that - you tell him I'll go to my parents home to sort out thing? Why did you put up with this maid? now this kind of attitude toward your employees spoils the market for the rest of us. BBB the maid, then use agency maid.

my lips are always dry and it doesn't help that i keep on licking them too :( i have tried lots of lip balm and the hot towel formula too but no help. can you ladies suggest something? is this a mdeical problem or what. The quickest way to have nice lips: have excessive amount of Glycerin or lip palm on these lips, then leave it on 25-30 min, then with warm to hot towel try to rub these lips, you will find that the dry skin had been gone with this movements, but DON'T do this on unhealed or bleeding lips..... the saliva have very few amount of enzymes that start to break the skin, as it deals with the skin like anything in the digestive system, you need to protect your lips from the licking habit, as it goes worse if you kept doing this....

Why don't you try the small dry cleaning shops here and there? I had been with Butlers - when it was working- then champion cleaners and both are worse than each other, over charging and damaging the fabrics and so on... and then gone to the small shops, then discovered these little shops do great job, they listen to your details about each piece of cloths/ quilts or anything, they are cheap and do free home delivery... edited by Gorobattie on 09/03/2011

Hi Shelly, I'm with you in the part of taking the time to view and know what exactly our needs, again it's EK decision, they sent the mail on 16 feb - DH was off - giving every body 3 days only to tell which is which, if the recipients did not answer back they lost their chance in a villa, if they No thanks not now maybe later still lost their chance, in both ways you are booted out of the waiting list for a villa - and we did not apply for it at all!! - we preferred to wait until we found our feet in Dubai. I asked a neighbour in the apt compound we are in, she said that their is a cap, but you will never know what is it, or how was your usage, until you find the deduction in the salary... It's a very important decision and EK is rushing every body to take, I want to have a villa, but now I'm looking for a job, then booting me out of Diera, where taxi fare will be less than having it from DSO,and the relocating - which EK announced in the mail will be on us, having our apt as we received, and accepting the villa - any villa - as it is... oh yeah, it was semmer or summer (spl?) edited by Gorobattie on 18/02/2011

There is also a Choithram and numerous smaller corner shops that are open or due for opening. On the 24th Feb the big SPinneys is opening near Cedre villas but as yet there are no other shops in there. Taxis are always around and have always been fine getting one, there is a Gems school opening in Sept which is British Curriculum. Hope this helps ! oh that help !! thanks dear :) do you have to hire a gardener? how much he would be payed? and for DEWA, is it really you pay it - for EK accomm. - and how much it ranks? hence summer already at the door step...

I think she is just a weirdo, just a female type of Michel Jackson - at least he was talented in his music ?? I do like her music, it's good for dancing, but really what is her music is all about? in her beginnings I thought her voice was similar to Gwen Stafani, yet I was wrong, in reality she sings with fake voice, dull and explicit lyrics, weird outfits, she is just about propaganda, like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and the other rehab girl who was in mean girls - can't remember her name

Hi scp, My brother is doing his MBA in accounting - or sort of it - as part of his own advancing in his own career, as he is the head of credit center in a Bank - I'm not telling which bank- as a start: this study is time, effort and money consuming, as he - my brother - spends literally all his salary on the study, plus he is demand to work for his position, it took him till this moment 5 stages, and so much money, and it included airlines tickets+ accommodation in the destinations he went to do his exams, plus he had to meet the time frame for each stage of the study... right now he is stuck with his last stage, as he is waiting for collecting more cash to fund his own accommodation in Amman, Jordan, then come back to do the last presentation , then he will be called holder of MBA certificate... I don't know if this give you an idea to what to expect when doing this study, you need to know what major exactly you are looking for, which job market you are targeting IF you got this MBA, put in mind what age you will be THEN and what career you will be starting as freshman. Good Luck.
