Copy of the title deed. If you don't have that, ask your building management for a copy of the affection plan.

It's really not worth putting up with these kind of emotional worries so early on in the relationship. Such concerns shouldnt be anywhere near your mind in the early days. I think you know what you need to do.

He's talking about the big Golf House store in Al Quoz. They used to have nets at the back where you could use the clubs but that area's been handed over to another sports shop now, so they no longer have a practice area. But the Golf House stores at the Montgomerie and Jebel Ali golf clubs should allow him to hit a few balls on the driving range. In fact the shops at any of the courses should allow that; Emirates, Al Badia, Els and Arabian Ranches are other options.

Thanks for that salsB, very clearly a scam and not even a particularly clever one at that. Sounds very similar to another Dubizzle scam from a couple of years ago that involved the selling of non-existent second-hand cars. The best advice from all of this is the old adage that if something's too good to be true, it almost certainly is. Has your daughter reported this to Dubizzle and the Police? At least that way she can help prevent other less-suspecting people from falling victim to these terrible people. No she hadn't as yet, but I know we need to let Dubizzle know, will the police be interested due to the company being overseas? Probably not, but you never know. You could just send a quick email or report it to the Al Ameen hotline. Definitely alert Dubizzle though as they will shut their account down immediately. There should be a 'Report' button on the ad, click that and post your description from here into it. They'll probably set up a new account straight away but at least the guys at Dubizzle will then know what to look out for.

There really isn't much point in warnings like this if people don't even give us an idea of what we need to be avoiding. Details please.

How many do you need? Any more than 10 and you'll need to look at bulk wholesalers rather than retailers. There's a stall outside the big sports shop in Ibn Battuta (Cinema end) that does t-shirt printing, but as I said above they probably won't be able to do large numbers in that time frame. The same company used to also have a stall in MoE but that disappeared about 18 months ago. Think they still have one in Festival Centre as well. Sorry, don't know the company's name but it's something obvious like 'The T-Shirt Company'.

There's a place in the corridor between Nautica and Athlete's Foot in Ibn Battuta that does it. They cut the original seam off and reattach it so you can't tell they've been altered. I have all mine done there. edited by HereComesTheSun on 03/12/2012

I take mine to the little shop downstairs. They're always happy to exchange them. I did AED2,000 last week and they were delighted. Obviously you still have to count them though, so it doesn't really answer your question!!

Thank you SO much. Forgot to mention the first warning sign--6 months ago "Hi, would you like to renew now? One check, and big savings if you do?" er...not quite yet?? A title deed never came up. I will consider myself lucky based on how ignorant I am on these matters. This sounds remarkably similar to the scams that have hit Dubai in recent months. You definitely need to get out as soon as your contract expires and then thank your lucky stars you weren't one of the unfortunate ones. In fact, I'd report this to RERA as they're very interested in investigating suspicious activity like this at the moment.

Bottom line is no title deed means no Ejari contract. Your advice is absolutely correct; a lack of willingness to hand over title deeds is never a good sign. However, the above statement is not strictly true - affection plans can be used to register contracts with Ejari, not only title deeds.

That being said, I don't guess a reputable agency would show a unit with outstanding fees, would they? Sadly, i suspect they would. Thanks for the idea about switching the internal. Might just do that, although if someone had a key to the front, wouldn't they have that key also? Obviously it's a possibility, but the landlord is more likely to keep a copy of the front door key than a bedroom door key (agents definitely won't have it) and if he did try he'd more than likely assume you've put a new lock in rather than switched it. Just buy a new one if you're unsure, it'll save you any worrying about it. edited by HereComesTheSun on 28/11/2012

You need to speak to the agency ASAP; they must have insurance to cover things like this, but the longer you leave it the less likely your story becomes. so you recon I shouldn't wait to see what she says? You can't wait another week. If you can contact her now about it then do so, but if not you need to report it to the agency ASAP. Personally, though, I'd be straight on to the agency immediately. Do you have your own contents insurance? edited by HereComesTheSun on 28/11/2012

I dunno if you are allowed to change locks .... As long as you keep the original and replace it when you leave, I can't imagine why anyone would object. In fact, I'd avoid renting from a landlord who didn't allow it. What possible motive could there be?

Does anyone know if these are available here in Dubai? My son has tried one at home and feels they are a good option for quitting. Nope they are banned Were they banned recently? I remember seeing them in various pharmacies about a year ago. I'd just like to reiterate the advice about changing the locks. Everyone should do this as soon as they move into a new place as so many different agents could have keys to your home. It also stops any worry about landlords walking in uninvited. You can get standard cylinder locks from ACE for AED45 or more elaborate ones for AED100-450 from Minutes (Festival City definitely, but I imagine all their branches stock them). Just make sure you know in advance the width of your door as the locks come in several different sizes. It's very easy to change them, and fairly obvious, but if you do get stuck there are lots of videos on YouTube showing you how to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmw3IQMl3Ts Another very simple option (if you live in an apartment) is just to swap your front door lock with one of your internal locks (if you have keys for them, of course). edited by HereComesTheSun on 28/11/2012

Looks like it was a small fire in the garbage chute in Armada Tower caused by a cigarette http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/cigarette-butt-causes-fire-in-another-jumeirah-lake-towers-high-rise-ex-tamweel-tower-residents-terrified-2012-11-27-1.485096 You really have to worry about the mental capacity of someone who does that. How do they even remember to breathe in and out every other second?! My building (80 stories high) has sealed the garbage shoots now after some idiot did the same thing. The amount of additional work that has caused is incredible.

Nomad, that is a terribly sad story!! Im so sorry for you and your family!! I would call the police but all I saw was a white car speeding off. I couldn't even tell you the make of the car so not sure I would be of any help?! You should still report it as it may help with the victim's insurance claim. Also, if you can pinpoint the time, they may miraculously have the w@nker on camera

Rotetho, the term 'dumbing down' is actually quite a common phrase in the UK, but I can appreciate why you've never heard it before as it's generally used introspectively to criticise the way things have become over there. The TV being full of Kardashian-type reality shows rather than hard-hitting documentaries, and newspapers being full of celebrities rather than meaningful investigations, are examples of the media being 'dumbed down'. GCSE exams becoming easier each year and the existence of university courses on things like popstars are examples of education being 'dumbed down'. There are lots of other similar uses in other areas of society as well. It's definitely not meant in an offensive way.

Ecochic, I really was not comfortable handing over the cheque since I heard this is also illegal but this customer service guy told me it is the norm now with all banks. If it is illegal I will demand it back and report them since I hate being bullied into complying with these "so called rules" which don't even exist. They are such a***holes and it is really stressing me out. I earn a high salary and have savings and for all their talk of treating me as a priority customer, they have caused me no end of problems. It really sounds like you need to shut your account down and change banks. I know it can be a hassle, but you shouldn't be rewarding this sort of service with your continued business. I'm with the much-maligned 4-lettered foreign bank, but I do EVERYTHING online. I've not had to deal with one of their employees face-to-face since the day I opened the account several years ago, and the few times I've spoken to them on the phone they've been helpful enough. edited by HereComesTheSun on 27/11/2012

I wouldn't give a security cheque for anything over here and have never been asked to. I opened my bank account independently of my company and was given two credit cards without any problem. I also don't know anyone else who's had to give a security cheque for a credit card, but then maybe they're picky about certain industries (I don't know). There are plenty of banks over here; if one messes you around like this just move to another one and make a reminder never to deal with them again.

People might not feel the need to do a fresh test if Spinneys didn't sell stale products. I've bought bagels from there which I've discovered have been hard when I've got them home. . Now there's a surprise; its not the person's fault - its' DUBAI to blame. Seriously. I'm pretty certain she's blaming Spinney's, not Dubai.

Will the ipad mini be out here in time for Christmas? What's the price going to be approx? I've asked in C4 and one person said she had no idea when it was coming and someone else told me "December". The price of the ipad2 &3 have really come down in recent months. JadoPado have them in stock now: http://jadopado.com/category/apple/ipad-mini All their products are usually European shipments so they will have Facetime installed on them.

Depends entirely on what you want it for. If it's just for home use as a laptop replacement then go for the iPad as it's the better device. But if you want more portability for use outside, then go for the Mini.

Thanks here comes the sun, the eviction letter came from IFA on behalf of the landlord who manage the Golden Mile buildings. Anyone else from Golden mile buildings who have been in a similar situation as there is no title deed to register a case with RERA. IFA have no jurisdiction to be issuing eviction notices, so reply to them with the relevant section of the law for your situation (assuming you are correct) and tell them to back off and obey their responsibilities as laid out by the law or return with a Court Order. As I said, this is their responsibility, not yours.

Every event I've been to in Dubai has had plenty of people selling spare tickets outside, so just go down there and see what you find. So many people here buy extras to sell at inflated prices or extras for friends who may or may not be able to make it, so there are always spare tickets flying around.

Firstly, I don't know anything about your case, so I have no idea if you have the right to stay or not, but.................... Who has the eviction notice come from? It is my understanding that an eviction notice is only enforceable if it comes in the form of a Court Order issued by the Rent Committee. The landlord cannot arbitrarily make this decision, so if it is simply a letter from the new owner or his lawyers then it is not worth the paper it is printed on. The Rent Committee's decisions are fully binding and cannot be appealed, so if the eviction HAS come from them, your time is up. But if it is from the new owner, simply reply to him by politely stating your rights under the law and asking him to come back with a Court Order. The onus is on him to prove you should be kicked out, not on you to prove you can stay. It is therefore his responsibility to open official proceedings, at which point you'll be called as a witness to give your version of events. And remember, if no title deeds have been issued for these properties, then he is going to struggle to proceed just as much as you would, and there is also a huge backlog of cases with the Rent Committee at the moment due to all the scams. The first thing you need to do is to take all your documents (including the eviction notice) to the Rent Committee and seek their advice, as they are the only people who can really tell you where you stand. You don't need to open a case (that's his responsibility), just go and speak to them; they are usually very helpful. edited by HereComesTheSun on 21/11/2012

Also, what kind of equipment are you looking for? Sports Direct in the Outlet Mall has some ladies' drivers and hybrids in stock at the moment, but very little else. And if you do go to the big Golf House, check out what second-hand clubs they have in stock (they do trade ins). You need to ask the guy in the little kiosk who re-grips clubs. I've been able to pick up some great bargains from there in the past. Admittedly it's very hit and miss though.

Looking for equipment and clothing but not keen on selection or price of golf house. Have you tried the huge Golf House in Al Quoz? You won't find anywhere else in Dubai with a bigger selection than that. No, can you give me directions? Not exactly, but it's on the main service road where all the car garages are, near Noor Islamic Bank metro station.
