Quote----in Lu Lu's this weekend.. a woman bit the top off a cucumber and chucked the rest of it back in the pile.. and casually walked off towards the grapes If she did that to the cucumbers..i'd hate to think what she must have done with the grapes... :)

My child goes to Blossom village and I must say, it's excellent...Even my DH has commented on their school work positively. Zahra is lovely, (The owner), very approachable--.Very V. lovely class teacher the whole lot! and everyone is treated same.. Happy to say that my son is 'bloosoming'. Having said that, what i find attractive in a nursery may not be what you like, also there may be other intangible things you look out for..Mix of nationalities maybe? I'm non-western and frankly I have gone into some schools ( for 2013 admission) and received some shabby treatment..being sort of minority in Dubai..I immediately think..well, they cant be treating everyone this way, if not people would have complained...even though i know everyone has their days...that immediately puts me off a school, no matter how high they are classed. Your choice of school will ultimately depend on theTangible/Intagible . Factors like distance from home, e.t.c and your gut feelings about a place. I'm sure they are both excellent places..at the end don't say 5 people liked bl. and 7 liked insp. and vice versa..Go with what you feel, don't go int too much comparison as the grass at the other side will tend to look greener. We search for perfection, but sadly the most we can get is 99.9%. At the end, choose one and concentrate on the good points and if u're happy, your child will be also.

I think the car parades should not be banned..As long as its done without disrupting or causing havoc. Emiratis love cars and it gives them an opportunity to 'show off' their cars whilst enjoying national day.. It also eye candy for onlookers...

Won't call it in your face racism per say..like they had in South Africa some years ago...will prefer to say ignorance... My husband works here..albeit for a Multinational...he has great pals that are often invited to our home and we to theirs....it's mostly the vibes you get from others who aren't quite ..what i will term 'aware' .. I'm sure you and your husband will be okay..There are pocket communities in Dubai..not large at all i must say compared with other expats, but you will meet some nice people along the way that will hep to balance your life.

gradpusu2 Hang in there..I can imagine how u feel..but then imagine being African here...so jobs three times as hard to get..( with most jobs saying only western applicants need apply)..You don't fit into most coffee/baby/mummy mornings, (cause most of the women don't feel like/want to talk to you anyway).. You walk into some schools and get the worst reception ever from the receptionists (like are you sure you are supposed to be here?)..calling up company to verify not fibbing about work claims and debentures... And before i get shouted down by many, yes he who wears the shoe knows where it hurts.. that's what unfortunately happens here most times.. So you see.it could be worse...It could really be much worse...Make the most of what you have until it's time to leave. try not to focus on the bad.

I use the Blue Bonnet whey protein as a shake in the mornings as I struggle with breakie foods and it fills me up. A homeopath friend said its the best one available in Dubai and super healthy. It is more expensive than the others and is also widely available in most health stores and fitness shops, Its a purple and white tub with lovely French Vanilla or Berry flavour. Its all natural and has no sugar or fat or artificial sweetners added. Each serving has 26 g protein and 0 g fat and 3 g of carbohydrates and packed with amino acids. I lost weight with it too So hilsbils, can i ask what else you add to this to make a healthy drink in the mornings?

The violent movies and games kids are exposed to these days..Being able to afford stuff means that we should be aware of what we feed them--we may just be killing them slowly..My friends in the UK stopped their kids from watching /playing Diablo game. They absolutely believe it is really diabolic..(as the name goes)noticed many changes in their kids...so totally banned in their homes now.

i know many people have used them.but this may be a case of 1 person spoiling a whole business!! The receptionist/sales girl..Gosh I have never experienced such level of carelessness..she takes orders and instructions and completely forgets to pass this on to the workmen..They have given me a **** of a time and we have had to go back there so many times!! Just posting to alert others..if you have to use them, especially for special frames, insist on speaking to the workmen directly.... Cheers and happy Eid everyone...

wow!!..nasty neighbour!!..I forgot to say we have to remember the occassional psychos lurking... I'm sure you wouldn't captain (how on earth does one add smileys on here?)..but i just think sometimes our attitudes may make another party feel we are unapproachable...not referring to you or myself or anyone in particular..but just a thought... I'll admit I act unapproachable on purpose. I am not rude, but I have been taken advantage of in the past because I am a softy at heart. I had a neighbor in the past that would ask me for a favor, turned into a weekly affair (mind you she was not sick, disabled, or without transport. Just lazy). She ended up owing me a little money, and then had the nerve to knock on my door and tell my OH, whom she'd never met, that she saw a random car in our drive and a strange man getting out and spending a good amount of time with me one particular day. She said she decided to tell him when she saw me hug the guy goodbye and give him a peck--and that "I seemed the type to be sneaky." ??? OH informed her that it was my brother and she needs to take her psycho *** back next door. I know this is an extreme case, but not that uncommon!:\::\::\::\: edited by jay14 on 16/10/2012

Well, no man should be an island...(although some of us choose to)...if it works for you, then, good... I think its good to know ones neighbor--(if it is possible)..Of course, if you say hello and the other person by body language or maybe --no body language! shows you to keep off, then you act accordingly... When i had my baby, i was new in Dubai, and one day, he was choking ..and i didn't know..entered his room and saw him struggling...I didn't know what to do..i was so confused..went and BANGED on neighbor's door..Poor man was also confused but more composed..so he helped me call an Ambulance--His wife was not back from work...My boy was turning blue..as in changing colour fast..even the man was in tears! Thank God for him as i really don't know what would have happened..That day, my neighbour became my angel. Sometimes, we feel so self sufficient that we think we don't need anyone we don't know...Just one event may turn that idea around... Of course,on the other hand, i don't want a neighbour appearing anytime i turn my door keys..(you get ?)...but anyway, each to his own...

Yes..Of course that's the logical thing to do..but there are exceptions in life...The kid may not be old enough to go to the school one is teaching in...we may be new in town, and had to put kid in school first as priority before job hunting...That's why the post just to see if anyone has been able to manage it...maybe with hubby's help or something..
