Thanks, you're right! I'm not the most patient traveller, I get bored, when they invent instant travel I'll be at the head of the queue!

Thanks Monkey Face, that's pretty much what I thought but I also don't want to be trying to keep the children entertained on the ground for longer than I have to!

Definitely rain but not enough to get excited about in Satwa! Though wee one has been out with her umbrella and is now looking for wellies - it'll have dried up by the time she gets back out! ETA: we had rain like this in July 2 or 3 years ago too. edited by JHM on 09/07/2012

Thank you Laura 74, I'll pass the info on to her. She sent me a photo last night and it didn't look tiny so hopefully it'll be up to messily feeding itself!

Hi Sue, The other place you could try is Arabian Home, opposite Rashid Hospital, across the road from the metro station. Good luck for the op!

Not 100% sure, but we saw a small Pomeranian on the junction of 8 & 9 Streets in Satwa (a road up from the Jumeirah Rotana) a few weeks ago. When my husband went back to look for it, it was gone. I've not seen any signs up or people out looking when we've been out with our dogs. It might be worth putting up a notice outside West Zone or Lal's on Plant Street. Thank you for taking it in, you do such a great job :)

It was raining in Satwa at 2:45 this morning - I had to get up to let one of the dogs up. There was one flash of lightning and clap of thunder too, as well as the wind. It rained on and off until at least 4! It does seem a shame it only rained at night.

Unfortunately, most people don't seem to realise that their actions are having an effect. My older daughter had a really bad dose of chicken pox when she was 3 and a half and a few of the spots on her face became infected. For months afterwards complete strangers would ask either her or me, 'what happened to her face?' She was mortified, I was seething and 6 years later she's still self conscious! I'm not sure what the solution is but I certainly wouldn't slow down or alter my course if they stopped in front of me - as long as ramming them with the wheelchair wasn't going to do damage to the occupant!!

We changed to Nad Al Shiba a few years ago and have been, or rather our various animals have been very happy with them. We've a friend who's tried Al Safa in Mirdiff a couple of times for really basic things and unfortunatley they've been disappointed. I've used Al Safa on Al Wasl Road a couple of times in weekend emergencies and they've been good.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Having trawled Dubai Mall, the Beach Centre and Mall of the Emirates, we finally found a pair in Pablosky. Zaks (in the Beach Centre don't stock anything over a size 36). Most shops, ShoeMart, Shoeciti, stop child sizes, including school shoes at 36. M&S didn't have her size and Clarks had one style with a bow on the front - she's not girly! The man in Pablosky told me that the shops have more choice in September, so I pointed out that children's feet grow year round so it may be an idea to carry some stock! They only stock up to a size 39 so the fun will begin again when she grows out of these. Last night I was looking online in case we couldn't find anything but there's virtually nothing in her size that look like school shoes, even the ones that say that they are! Why are boys allowed to be boys but girls are encouraged to grow up too fast?!

Great, thanks vixen 1 and Khalida. Magrudy's aren't selling shoes anymore. We tried Hush Puppies today and they didn't have anything suitable. I couldn't find Ecco kids in Dubai Mall, it's not where it used to be. We'll head to moe tomorrow. Thanks again!

Hi, Has anyone recently bought black school shoes for their daughter? I'm trying to find new shoes for mine and apart from a pair in Pablosky which barely fitted (and were Dhs 290!), I'm drawing a blank. To compound our difficulties, DD is in Year 4 at DESS where they're meant to be in red shoes - she'd outgrown those at the start of Year 3 - and they've agreed to her having black as long as they're not clumpy shoes. We've been to Stitches, where we got the last pair and they had one pair in her size but they were hideous and wouldn't have been accepted. We went to Dubai Mall today and didn't find anything in any of the shops. I'm going to try Mall of the Emirates tomorrow but it has the same shops as Dubai Mall so chances seem slim. Ideally I'd like to find Start Right, does anyone know where they're sold? Alternatively, anywhere else I can try for school shoes for a 9 year old? Thanks

There's a phone shop in Satwa, I can't remember the name, but it's opposite the bus station on the opposite side from the material shops (it's double fronted with orange signs). I went in to get my phone unlocked when noone else could do it. While I was in there someone came in with an iphone with a cracked screen and they were going to replace it. It may be worth going in to see if they can fix the screens.

Hi all, Can anyone recommend someone to help a friend of mine and her two rescue dogs. The dogs have a few issues but their main problem is when they try to walk them together. We've got 3 elderly dogs but when they were young we couldn't find anyone here who could help us with them forming a pack when we went out (individually and in the house they were well trained) and this is the problem my friend's now got. I know that there are far more dog people in Dubai now and hope that someone can deal with these issues. Thanks all

I got thermals for my 2 in Decathlon in France and I noticed the other day that they've now got them here. They were much cheaper than anywhere else and came through a trip to the snow park with flying colours!

the red sand is on lulu island which they trucked over there at great expense it was going to be a wildlife resort etc but now they are going to build on it at some point. they do still black out the mags, but i remember when we first came that Princess D was wearing a mini skirt, but the black marker peg came out and made it below the knees instead. i remember when the beach at emirates palace was a public beach and when they built the hotel it was called the conference hotel for the big gcc conference so then they had it and renamed it the emirates palace instead. At one point they supposedly wanted Disneyland on Lulu, until the costs were discussed! hmmmmh! where did you get that information, as I do remember writing that word for word way back when lol Not sure what's happening, I don't remember writing the paragraph above but I do remember adding the bit about Disneyland on Lulu!

For anyone else who's looking, I finally got a purple one in Kidz Inc in Al Quoz. They're the importers for Micro scooters. I know they're not cheap so was a bit wary but at Dhs 540 they were the same as Virgin and Dhs 9 cheaper than Toys R Us. Thanks for all your help.

I love the photo but he looks so small! He definitely seems to have settled in - thank you so much. Sals B, my first stop would usually have been a vet's but I'd just got in from work and it was a bit urgent. Very pleased that he is now getting all the care and attention that he needs.

Thank you all so much, especially Kristina who now has another tiny mouth to feed! My 4 year old was in floods of tears this morning when she was told that the kitten had gone to someone who could look after it properly - the fact that we have 2 cats and 3 dogs was no consolation! Thank you ladies for all that you do. xx

Thank you so much. He's had some wet food and is now asleep curled up in a box with a towel and one of my children's teddies. Kristina, so kind of you to offer. I can go out and get him kitten milk but can't do 3 hour feeds - his timing's pretty off, I've not had a full time job for a while! Please can you email me jo and fraser at yahoo dot co dot uk. Thanks so much x

Hi Meals, I'll keep an eye out when I'm there. Have you spoken to someone at the school, they could send out an email. It would also be worth speaking to Russel, the school caretaker. He's usually on the front gate but he's great and always goes the extra mile. Post back if you need any help. I can also try to get something out through the class reps if the school won't send out an email - I can't see why they wouldn't though.

We bought tomato plants and herbs from Plant Street and they've been great. The shop we use had cherry tomato plants in a few days ago which we'll go for this year but we had a really good harvest of regular tomatoes last year. We also grew peppers (capsicum), aubergines and chillies.

This is probably too late but... 55% will be a bit sweeter and a little more oily than 75%. I only ever cook with 75% or even sometimes 80% as it's less oily. It should be fine in a recipe.
