dont touch horizon with a barge pole!!!!! i have just had a very awful experience with them.......they wont mention that they expect 6000dhs deposit per child non refundable until your kids leave......until they send you your terms invoice!!!!!! then treat you like **** if you question. my kids were offered a place and were meant to start this week. at 8am in the morning i was told i had to give one cheque for 6000 that they would cash at end of month and then another cheque for 6000dhs for end of oct as i had 2 kids going there. at 9 am i was rung and told no this has changed and i had 24hrs to get the full amount. then at 1030 am when i went into the school with the cash they told me no there are no places for your children!!!! possibly because my husband had been on the phone to KHDA who said its ileagal to ask for this much money. I have made a full complaint to them now and they will be investigated................. i can highly recommend english college, and jebel ali primary who have been very good and helpful since this. Star is a lovely school too but they didnt have any places unfortunatly for the yr i was after.

Thank you will get onto that straight away. we have checked everywhere on the school website and handbook and doesnt say anything about a deposit there. kids had an assesment there last week and no money was asked for.... they offered us the places and sent us an invoice for 2 lots of term fees and an invoice for each kid for 6000dhs security deposit..... nearly fell off my chair lol. i dont mind paying a 1000 dhs but 6000 each is mental. having just moved here are funds are limited as it is and company refusing to pay deposits!! school bursar was really rude about it when we queried it too.

of course the mother would want to return to her home country after a marriage split........i know i would. why be made to stay in a foreign country just because her husband choses to live and work there!!! and why shouldnt her children go with her back to their home country??? lets be honest here mums are the ones who look after the kids day in and out. mums are the ones who are there 24hrs a day for their kids........... this little girl is now probally being brought up by a maid while her father is at work most of the day. If he wants to see his kids as much as possible then why doesnt he get a job back in his home country.??

Hi this thread brought back soooo many memories.... my little one is now 8mths old and i had really bad sickness with all 3 of my pregnancies..... you can get navidoxine at the pharmacy in dubai and this works amazingly. i used it when i had the twins 9 yrs ago too. doesnt harm baby at all. all 4 of my kids are perfectly healthy : )))

i did notice that they didnt seem very organised when we looked round. starting to get very worried now as it looks like this school is my only option for my 15 yr old as i wouldnt be able to move her once she starts there. its bad enough she will be redoing yr 10 to accomadate my husband accepting this job in abu dhabi. really hope al yasmina come back with a place for her.

well we came and had a look and fell in love with al yasmina.......... but looks like they might not be able to take my daughter for yr 10.......: (( we looked around BISAD and was not impressed at all and that is only one which offered us places on the spot. now i really dont know what to do..........was prepared that i might have to put twins there till a place came available at yasmina but this isnt really something i can do for my daughter as we are messing with her education enough as it is. has anyone got any ideas of what my next move should be??????

well we r coming over next week to have a look at the schools and cant wait to have it all sorted. i must admit one thing that i have noticed is that option subject choices are very small and not much variety compared to uk. my daughter is half way through 2 BTECS in uk which she is going to be finishing via post/email. she has just finished taking her english and maths GCSE's. does anyone know if they will make her redo them again if she already has them?

thank you for all your replies i will be contacting all the schools after the weekend. does anyone know anything about the entry fee at al khubairat school? as im reading it from the web site it says 7740 dhs for primary and 9200 for secondary and its non refundable/transferable........ surely they cant charge that just for people to apply ............... that would mean i have to pay 24680 for my 3 kids. does it come off the first terms school fees? or is it money never to be seen again????????????
