Oh Mrsb, can I be nosey and ask what their problem is? We are both Australian too and have heard that our own children will need to give birth in Australia if they want their kids to be Australian as they themselves were born outside the country. Is that your problem? I hope your DH has another citizenship - otherwise what passport could your DD get??? What an awful situation.

As long as your DH is resident - no problems - I've done it! You just have to be here legally, the particular visa you're on doesn't matter To be honest, you may find your DH doesn't even need to be resident - as long as you're both here legally and can prove you're married. I wasn't asked for proof myself, but have heard of others who have. edited by Kooky on 20/10/2012

TD Ameritrade no longer want to deal with clients "in this part of the world". I do remember your post regarding this, as they are still dealing with clients here, so why only you? Has anyone else received notice like this? I don't know, we're hardly big fish!

The first cheque they confirmed they'd sent to our PO box - UAE ( no Dubai) so I can imagine it's sitting in Shajah or something - fine - try again. now I really don't know. Seems a bit paranoid to think such a large company would be doing a dodgy, but I just want to get it finalised and am wondering how much longer I should give them. You watch I'll get like three cheques at t he same time when this is all done - aaggghh.

Well I'm not sure. DH has been dealing with it but it seems just too long for me. The first cheque was lost - this one is a reissued one and we did ask for them to register it, but apparently it's gone by normal post. It is the cashing out of our shares as TD Ameritrade no longer want to deal with clients "in this part of the world". Very annoying as we want to reinvest. They are a large organisation, but this seems very poorly handled and frankly - we just want the money. Apparently they can't electronically transfer as our account is closed????? HHHmmmm. It should be just a simple letter - WITH A CHEQUE IN IT (I really hope!) edited by Kooky on 18/10/2012

I'm in such a hurry to answer your post, I haven't actually read those below. My advice if I can put it in the most opinionated way I can ( and I do normally try to avoid being opinionated) is GET ANOTHER DOCTOR. It is absolutely not possible for an EBF baby to be obese. If you're on facebook try Breastfeeding Q & E Dubai UAE or UAE natural family living network for some advice from other mums, but really, truely, you have done the best thing for your baby to date. It's now your decision on things like whether to stop night feeds/feed on demand etc. But rest assured, your baby is a healthy, robust, lucky lucky baby.

Yes but you will need an exit permit from immigration first. Someone with more recent experience may be more detailed, but it can only be obtained something like within 7 days of your departure (no earlier) and does require the fathers approval.

You might want to do some research on baby Bjorn and other "outward facing" carriers versus the Ergo and other "parent facing" carriers before you buy anything. There's a compelling case for the parent facing ones.

The Medela bags here small and are WAY overpriced. Try Amazon - even with S & S shipping it works out to about 1/3 of the price. I recommend Lahnisol or Honeysuckle.

Whilst we're here, can anyone recommend a program they've used to increase performance/check for virus's etc? I know Mac's are not supposed to suffer with virus's but boy, my computer has really slowed down recently - unless it's something to do with the recent software upgrades? And also my scroll bars seem to disappear now and only reappear when I resize the window - any hints on how to keep the little blighters there?

My advice would be to check out all our options. DH was told he definately needed surgery, but first we decided to try a sleep apnea machine (available only after diagnosis/prescription) and honestly it's amazing. We got the machine in our home country and the sellers went to great pains to explain that this machine won't stop snoring but will ensure that a steady flow of air gets to where it should go, but hey presto - it did also stop the snoring. We use the Resmed brand and a sincerely mean it when I say that if it cost $10K out of our pockets, I'd buy it again in a flash. I can't remember the actual cost ( DH got his about 4 years ago - something like $2K for the top of the range, portable model I think, but I truely think it's some of the best money we ever spent - and no surgery to boot!

Grobattie perhaps you could ask for a copy of the video from the bus and send it to the parents/police? If there's no video, I think following the bus and watching/stopping it at the time of an incident is an excellent idea. (obviously you'll need someone else to drive if you're watching!!!lol) Great to see so many ladies standing by their bullied kids - they don't have the skills to deal with it and REALLY need you. edited by Kooky on 23/09/2012

Thank you all the ladies who've contributed @ Suze63 thank you very much, we've started the online part of the registration! @ jophiel - we are just casual investors, probably 8-10 trades a year. Interactive Brokers apparently required us to be in a county which was party to some particular banking regulatory body, which my DH believes the UAE is not. I'll get him to check with them directly @maraycatherine I hear you on the stock prices! We have been advised by TDA that unless our residential address has changed from the UAE, our account will be closed, and the only other option offered was to go with another broker. Perhaps jophiel is right about volumes - certainly we're not contributing lots!

Someone recently told me pinkys in sharjah had closed down. It was certainly very empty when we were there about 6 months ago. Luckys furniture is just around the corner from pinkys in sharjah, 4 huge warehouses of stuff. Always had good service from them. Also try Safita behind the pepsi cola factory interchange 2/safa park SZR edited by Cherry ripe on 21/09/2012 Ah that might explain why I spent all morning Wednesday driving around carefully following the directions I'd printed out from EW, and yet no luck. Can anyone confirm if it really is closed or if I just can't follow directions?????

Child brith is painful, but please remember that It's probably the most painful thing most people do voluntarily so the stories are often inflated, dramatised and become a kind of personal folk tale. m Kind of like - wow I was so drunk .... it' was incredible what I had to do ..... I cna't believe I survived, but let me tell you all about the time a lion nearly killed me ..... People wouldnl't go back for more if it were that bad, right? Personally I've delievered three children over 4 kgs naturally without drugs. My last birth was painful, but honestly HONESTLY a joy. That said, natural drug free birht is not for everyone, if you want pain relief take it - the perfect birth is the birth YOU want. C Section is a big step and not something many would recommend as a voluntary option. If you're worreid about pain, just make sure your care providers are fully informed that it's important to you. All the best. Sorry about all th typos - baby not co-operating! edited by Kooky on 15/06/2012

I know you're not supposed to go anywhere without 6 months validity on your passport, but how does it work - where do they check? If a resident from here leaves the country to go to a county other than their own (but one that they do not require a visa for) will it be checked? If that person reenters UAE, with a valid residents permit and in fact an egate card, will there be a problem? For reasons too complicated to post a new passport is not an option, although an extension might be. Clearly that the better option, but if she gets a 6 months extension now, it still won't be 6 months validity when she returns .... She's just wondering if it's too risky to buy tickets.

Buy them online through Amazon. They're about a third of the price than the ones here, are larger and will be here in just a few days. I like Honeysuckle or Lanisol ( not sure on spelling and can't be bothered to go downstairs and check sorry!)

If you mean Dr Rihab Awad, at HCC she's very good. Her manner is perhaps not the warmest, but she is a really experienced, respected and respectful dr. She really impressed me with her can do attitude when I can a problem with the hospital I chose, and was very respectful of my birth wishes. She's very thorough and very careful. The only drawbacks I'd say is that she is very busy, so can be hard to get an appointment and her reception staff will do your head in - they tell you when you "may" see her, never ring your back if you want them to and then often change times of your appointment saying "your appointment has been moved" etc. I know I'm being twitchy, but it's really irritating - like you have nothing else to do in your life than be available for her. I stress, that's not her, but the reception staff.

I believe it negates your insurance too to have them any older. Evidence please. Find the clause in your insurance contract that says so and post it here. Search your own papers Edna - what my papers say has nothing to do with your insurance. Our PRO told us and that's good enough for me. Certainly makes sense - if the car isn't "roadworthy" enough to pass the rego test, then surely the insurance company would try it's best to use that as an "out". I'm simply raising another potential issue and have no intention of trudging through the fine print for you - go and order someone else around!
