I am coming over shortly to sort out houses with hubby for a few days, he is already over here living in a basic appartment. I will have a day to myself while he is at work ( leaving children with in laws as easier house hunting) & would like a chill out by a pool - can you recommend a decent priced one that is also a nice place?

Hi, we have just got in here. We don't all come over till Aug., but hubby is out there. I sent him to have a look round - he went on site & chatted to a few there & they where saying it will be finished in August. But will feel easier knowing when it is actually finished - he says it looks smart what they have done so far. We are know planning to look at houses in Arabian Ranges as commute is ok . I have also got him do a few dummy runs in the car to double check! Well I'm a bit limited doing the practical research over here in the UK!

Not really, hes over at Media City, but says the drive is ok. he will be doing bits of travelling & be away - so guess it will be me taking the kids to & from school- although I do plan to get a job myself once the children have settled in . Will check out villas at DSO, had heard its not very developed, but have seen a few say on here they live there - so wil have a look.

Hi I done a few work conferences here - & the New port bay is fab for kids, there is a smll que at breakfast, but similar in some of the hotels as all kids up at similar time & then want to get out to the park asap. This time though , as a family I have booked the New York, I visited this & it looks nice, but also wanted to stay somewhere different than the Newport. Disney hotel is lovely - but I dont think it worth the extra moneys - which can be £300-£500 more which is your spending money at the park really! All of the disney hotels have the characters arrive at different time. We go late July & looking forward to taking the kids - they are already excited!

Def red wine, slower you cook the dish the better. If you have any left over mulled wine that's even better, as it's got list of spices & herbs all infused.

Hi, yes, would be lovely idea. We are currently looking at A Ranches, but just getting hubby to do a few drives, to see what it's like at rush hour. Where do you & your family live? Are you moving from existing schools? We have had a nightmare getting into schools! X

We are moving over late August, got ours in their too. My husband is over in Dubai, and he went to the presentation and met everyone. Head was v helpful. Just hope it's built on time. I have daughter starting in fs2 and yr4. Also like the idea that my 8 year old won't be the newbie in class, they all will be. Hoping to come over in June to visit it myself

Hi, a lot of people are in the same boat. We still haven't got a place sorted. Lots of emails etc... And deposits! My plan is so see where we get in schools before we decide on location to live, as don't want to be doing silly trips back & forth. Mine are 4 & 8. Husband is now gone over due to job. Things seem a bit easier as he can make more calls & drive around & visiting schools. Better response face to face, than via emails. I have been so frustrated with all the admin & waiting lists, but it's only with him over in Dubai we have found out emirates have taken on loads of pilots, with families all moving over soon - that's why places seem to be scarce and lists even longer this year. We are still searching & applying, so hopefully will hear some good news shortly- have everything crossed! When are you to move over?

Thanks, will email a few schools. Im still working, and can't hand in notice until we know when we are coming, got whole house and pets to sort out. So not easy to upticks so quick. If I'd have known about option to get kids in early. Rather than focus on sept. I would def have had a different plan! Most people we spoke too said it would be easy to get in and just to choose a couple, but on reflection these expats have been here a while, and school places have got a lot harder. Wish I'd known about this site before! Mine are yr 3 at the mo, and youngest due to start school in sept. Thanx for your help, all a big learning curve, plus from nxt week hubby is over there!

thanks will get on the case. We have applied for Silcon Oasis, hubby attending opening day end of March, say ther are places but daughter will have to come over again to sit assessments. We had names down at 2 schools - came over to visit at half term here ( week after dubai) - didn't like one school, got showed round by a 15yr old who had only been there 4yrs & could answer most of our questions. Other one nice & really liked it etc.... then when we got home , having had our money said there would be no places for Sept - realy upset as my daughter really liked the school & we had to tell her there were not any places. So back to square one, 3 months after applying for these!! Could do with not having to come over have not got £ spare to come over with 2 kids again! So on a sitting game again - very flustrating. A question - did your children have to sit assessment in Dubai or did they let your current school do it, or where you just able to send in school reports? Many thanks - all very flustrating to say the least !

Hi Tartiflette We are stuggling getting in schools for Sept. Hubby out there permanently from next week. Have'nt tried getting in early - assumed best to start new school year over in Dubai. Did you find it easier to get in sooner rather than September? I assume so reading this. Any advise apreciated as places scarce for Sept & getting quite worried about it now! And worried we wont get in, and also keen to get in good school rather than any that will take us! thanks

Thanks - will have a look at these. On where planning to live - again all up in the air due to schools - as this will dictate on where we can base ourselves as don't want to be driving from one end of Dubai to the other - so limbo land till we can get schools sorted. Its not that we have only just been looking - had applied to some & paid New Year -came out to visit week after your feb half term to visit schools & then come back to find they confirmed waiting lists longer than they said & so no chance of getting in Sept - so busy now trying to get other options together & being more cautious than handing them more money for each school & still ended up in the same boat!! So we can sort out all the other stuff you have to do when coming over!!! But time running out..... will check out these schools below, thanks
