Never heard of the reimbursment of the difference if its on sale a few days later... doesn't make sense to me and I would never expect that. If I buy something today it is my decision that this is a fair price and I am willing to pay for that....the sale is on a few days later, well.......bad luck ! Why would I ever pay X for some Electronic stuff....there will always be a sale around the corner...and I get the difference back over and over.....just does not make sense I am sorry ! :-(

I most certainly hope you ladies who need to have their BB's on during the night to attend email/calls etc. are paid accordingly. Sorry, but I just would refuse that. Reasonable yes...but answering emails/phone calls in the middle of the night is just a no go. I agree there can be an emergency but that is NOT every night...and to be on Standby most certainly does not count as emergency in my book..... to the lady who puts the bb on silent....what's the difference to turning it off ? sorry, just dont get that :-) I travel quite extensivley international. It is basically a matter of discipline and manage expectations.... a few people, my wife, my secretary and my boss know the schedule and my hotel/emergency number/home number....and that's where they can call when it is URGENT !! The rest has to wait till the next day....:-)

Emirates NBD Bank has some pretty decent cards. Their Infinity or Platinum gives you loads of miles. Ok, the cards are not free but they had (if they still have I don't know) the offer that you get 75'000 miles upon signing up and pay the intial fee.... now 75k pays 3 upgrades to Business from ECO on 4-5 hours flights....well worth it ! Afterwards the rates for spending is also pretty decent.... you also get Skywards Silver.....check it out http://www.emiratesnbd.com/assets3/pdf/cards/termsAndConditionsSkywards.pdf Enjoy !

Saharagypsyrose... thanks...didn't know, but frankly suspected that something like that exists... any idea how you get the invitation, i.e. how many miles/flights one roughly needs ? What are the additional benefits ? It is nowhere metioned as far as I can tell....:-(

If you use Powerpoint slides for the presentation....... do not fall into the "DBS" trap....(dead by slides) :-)) Only majore points on a few slides and the rest should come from you. Nothing more boring than a lot of slides and the presenter reads everything down.... apart from that....think of it as telling a story to some friends or kids.... and that should make it a lot easier !!

I second spongemonkey here...how can anyone take up a lease with a 2 year committment with one cheque ? One year was already too much...now 2 years is completely NUTS !! Should anything happen during the 2 years - not a long time on one hand....a VERY long time on the other...you are screwed...I would not bet a single AED on a landlord being flexible and/or give you the excess money back ! Better go to the casino and you have a chance of winning...:-))

Errrr....what's the payment to this SA company/guy for ??? you paid for your stuff already, as you mentioned.....the most I would imagine could be possible is that you have to pay for the shipment to you.... but THAT IS IT ! I would not fork out another DHS on that.... and...if you really want to go and pay AGAIN then make sure you get the pics FIRST and then pay..... sounds like another scam to me !!

you will not need a visa if you do not leave the Transit Zone at the airport ! If you fly into Heathrow and then forward from Gatwick for example then you'll need one as you will officially leave the airport.

simpleasabc, different rules apply. it is not allowed in a shipment of your personal belonging.Meaning that one can not import the vine cellar with x-hundred bottles or the collection of rare Whiskies.... however, if you travel in/out and use the regular duty free allowance you can buy the alcohol up to 4 litre wherever you like. Done this many many many times..... in fact my friend always buys 8-12 litres when he comes into DXB...and just says that they are a company of 3 people when asked....not a single time this has been an issue. Fact is....Duty Free is a GOLDMINE for the government and therefore they will not stop you buying more at the spot upon arrival :-))

hhhh ? you can import alcohol bought elsewhere. i always bring Russian Vodka (directly from Russia) as they don't sell them at Dubai Duty Free. No problem at all. Limit is 4 litre hard liquor. Wrap them nicely and place them in the suitcase covered with the clothes....of course also perfumes are allowed - as long as you don't import 100 gallons for sale :-)

it will be possible to view them on iPad...however, you will need to convert them first into an iTunes format. Google "handbrake" software and download that. Then use that software to rip/convert the DVD's into the relevant format and import it into iTunes. Then transfer to iPad. it is a bit of a hassle/effort to start with....but once you got the hang of it, it is quite ok. Enjoy and have great holiday !

Not sure what to say...try as Sticky Wicket says... but....on the other hand..if you say that "similar" apartments go for 110k then....take into consideration moving costs, is the apt really as nice/spacious as yours etc etc.... then I think 126k seems reasonable and I just would pay it to avoid the hassle of moving...it is such a PITN ! :-) (pain in the neck...) edited by Lenochka on 05/04/2011 edited by Lenochka on 05/04/2011

SueB....you might want to check your bill......not paying for Roaming doesn't really happen. Somebody pays...might be the company if it's a company phone, but otherwise....:-) Also in regards to the Business Centers / WiFi in Hotels.....cheap in that context is in a lot of cases not true. Some of the larger hotel chains have not woken up to smell that coffee yet and charge 20/30 USD /Day for use of Internet...yes, some of them have Wifi for free.....but a lot don't.... Also phone calls out of a hotel are ALWAYS A RIP OFF AND RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE !! BTW, I travel on business a lot and know from own experience.....

I have been told several times that you need the visa of the first country you enter. This led to the fact that we went from Zurich to Austria (1 hour by car) for a chinese dinner in order to get the stamp (got a austrian/schengen visa as my granny is from Austria). As we had the 1 year multiple visa we were always told we need to go to Austria FIRST before entering any other country for a short trip (Paris/Milan for shopping, Munich for Oktoberfest etc).....

you can book an award (free) ticket for somebody else, but.... the respective amount of miles has to be in ONE account. if you and your husband each have say 15'000 miles, you can not combine them to make up the required 30'000 miles for a trip.... I know, most likely not what you wanted to hear...but such is life....

Not sure if I understand you right....do you have experience in trading shares and Fixed Income (Bonds) products ? or other relevant market knowledge ? Don't want to dampen your enthusiasm but options are HIGH RISK and ALL aspects need to be understood in depth. I would not advice anybody to trade options or futures, or any other derivative for that matter, with just basic knowledge/training on concepts... unless you want to gamble - but then maybe a casino is more fun ! :-) Seriously, beware...the risk is big and you can easily use all the premium invested (in simple scenarious, such as buying a call/put option....on others, even worse scenarious/products/strategies you will be asked for margin calls...i.e. cough up more money....and then the risk us UNLIMITED !!!

Well..SunDevil put all the negatives there...:-)) so, yes most if it is, at least, partially true... however, I lived there for 3 years...and I LOVED IT !! it is a fantastic place with loads of differnt experiences to encounter. Culture, Arts, Music Scene, Ballets, History, great nightlife etc etc...yes, it is expensive...it was possible to live quite cheaply in Moscow about 10 years ago...and it still can be...but that means you would need to live very frugal and blend in with the average russian (think doctors, teachers etc who earn 300-400 usd a month with a beer price in the center of Moscow of 10 USD min....) anyway, the point is more about your relationship. As others have pointed out, make sure that you know what you are getting into. It appears that your flexibility and understanding is very much demanded....but there seems to be a lack of mutua respect......so clear that first and then take the plunge ! Yes, it is freaking cold...but Dubai is freaking hot....there is horrible traffice......dubai has its own share of maniacs on the street.....overall, it is a fantastic experience and you will not regret it !! Jumeirah Jane...have you ever been there ?? Not sure which security you are refering to :-) edited by Lenochka on 14/01/2011
