Try Bareez'e in Satwa or the outlets in Bur Dubai, somewhere around Al Fahidi Street. Their material is supposed to be quite good. Ask them for the plain cottons. They have them in a variety of colors. I hope they sell the plain cottons separately here though. Never been to any of the Dubai outlets. HTH

Thankyou BMAP, will surely drop you a line when i gather all the materials. I think the plain canvas will be better to start with initially. The cutting would get a bit too complicated for me. Hopefully they stock plain canvases in those painting shops at dragon mart aswell, they always seem to have huge pictures, otherwise il try my luck at lulu or borders. If you don't mind can you give me estimates for prices of the canvases that you got at borders and lulu and the wall papers so i don't get ripped off at dragon mart since they always try their luck and am not very good at getting discounts. TIA

love love the idea's , wish i was half as creative as you. Will try to hunt down the canvas in lulu's or borders, jumeirah is a bit too far for me, plus i would like to this on a budget. I want something big for a huge wall that just looks too barren.Wish could have seen the pieces you have made. They sound gorgeous.

They come in all sorts of material, but most are synthetics or silk , that is cz they need them to be flowy and something that does not crease (no one looks good in a wrinkled abhaya :) ) There is also a specific abhaya material. Sorry dont know the names for these fabrics. Some fabrics a bit thinner than others. I would suggest to look for the lightest material you can find (would not recommend silks or those stretchy fabrics, their very heavy) and not to buy any abaya that has many folds and pleats...something plain and simple with a wide neckline (not those collar neck lines) and hopefully you fill be fine. It does take alot of getting used to. Ususaly my abaya isnt a problem, the head scarf is what gets me warm.

What a great idea BMAP, making huge a canvas using your favorite wallpaper. I would love to try that. Can you please tell where you got the canvases from and what sizes were they? also what did you use to stick them on. Would any glue work? sorry I dont know much about wallpapers so no idea what people use to stick them on.

Thanks for posting dufftown, when new to dubai , I always wondered why things online seemed much cheaper than buying from the same brands in store. The prices printed on the labels in pounds and dollars always seemed lower than dirhams. Unfair :(

From what i remember if you park near the last gate, you will probably enter the GB or HA section of the mart. The fabric section is fairly near that. Mind you, most of the fabrics are just curtain material. I only remember seeing one shop that used to sell clothes fabrics like silk and such, don;t know if that is still there. For feathers i remember a shop which sells angel's wings made of feathers and some fancy masks that have feathers attached to them. Maybe they sell feathers , but i cant be sure. HTH

Not really, applied for my sister who was coming from KSA, its pretty easy and hassle free, was quite surprised when the visa came through so quickly. Do give your self the minimum time limit they state for the visa processing when selecting your departure date though. Maybe we got lucky with how quickly we got the visa.

It doesn't take very long, usually takes around 1-2 days
