Grrrr! Moved house, so needed Etisalat to install everything and after 2 1/2 weeks (when they told me 7 days at the most) and yes I know that many ladies here have waited a lot longer, including a guy (customer who spoke with me) at the Etisalat office in MCC who said that he was still waiting after 8 months!!!! that I finally have internet. However, paid for internet (tick got that), 2 TV boxes (only got 1), TV recording option (nope) phone line (nope), fax line (nope). Phoned Etisalat helpline to ask kindly about it all and they automatically gave me a complaint number!!!! I told them I wasn't complaining but they informed me that I was paying for all of the above from today, so a complaint!!!! ?????? Confused or what?!!!!! And after how? long in Dubai........you're actually surprised?

Girl, you don't need a diet, you need a divorce. Your husband obviously is a shallow waste of space. get rid, and get a life again, you are worth more than this. edited by Livelytrish on 12/01/2011

BB, am I right in thinking that you once said you were a major financial support to him and his family? I would have thought there would be your answer........not ME logic, just unwillingness to lose a cashcow. Don't allow yourself to be used, and start thinking about yourself and your life. Take care.

Try the Mossat Shop! If no then the coop at the back o beyond Or the Colourbox in Holburn Street, they are bound to have tartan paint round the back, probably just behind the shelf with the Lost Chord.

It is so bad for Haggis at home that many of them have decided to come to Dubai to work as maids. Aye Ma'am. :D :) That reminds me of a lovely story my father used to tell, during WW2 a friend of his was an officer in a unit niicknamed the "Fish troop"....most of the chaps had joined up together, most had worked in or around the fishing industry and many had previously been porters at Aberdeen Fishmarket..........where the usual form of address was, regardless of hierarchy... "Hey, Min". As a local ship owner his friend was used to the democratic ways of the market, but after complaints from the upper echelons of the Brass he tried to put things on a more official footing. After several attempts to maintain military discipline. as in "You're in the army now, it's Sir" the poor man finally gave up on being addressed as Heyminsir.

And there is the law of supply and demand........and affordability. Just how many families would have maids if they had to pay in Dubai, say........central London nannies wages? Or even a the wage of a lady wot does? The market for maids would disappear, and the women who were managing very very well on 1500dhr a month would be back home, and jobless. In an ideal world...........well we can all dream, but it ain't. And edited to add, if anyone thinks that 1500dhr, plus housing is slavery, go ask some of the shop assistants, or clerks, or even some secretaries, how much money they are paid......and how much is left after housing/utilities etc etc. edited by Livelytrish on 10/01/2011

It seems to be a Dubai thing. I have never had any of this kind of trouble with maids in other countries. I don't have one here but quite frankly, seeing the trouble they seem to cause I have no wish to employ one. I suspect that a great many of the maids coming to Dubai have bought into the old "Dubai's streets are apved with gold".......the same illusion that so many peoples' relatives at home seem to believe (just consider the number of posts on this forum alone from members complaining that family back home think they must be earning squillions, because they "are in Dubai".) And as a result the maids assume that their employers must be hugely wealthy, and can afford to pay ...and pay... and pay. It's ironic really, immigrant maids here in Cyprus say they have all been warned off Dubai, on the basis of ill treatment by some employers, yet I have seen some quite unbelievable instances of abuse of maids, here in our own little village, ranging from failure to pay, to feed, to provide basic amenities like bed and bedding...and in one instance gross physical abuse. And it is so common that it causes no outcry whatsoever. Whilst there are sadly instances of maid abuse in UAE, my gut feeling is that there are a considerable number of maids, especially those employed by expats from those countires where domestic workers are rarer, who are doing very .very well, considering their options in their home countries, but nevertheless have learned how to yank their inexperienced Madams' chains by playing on sympathy and misplaced guilt. Ladies, the fault, if any, for these womens' situation lies not with their employers, but their own governments who are incapable of running their countries economies. Pay a fair wage for the country in which you are employing a maid, treat her with respect, kindness and dignity, but do not take her to raise...it's not your job.

Best ask your vet, you will need to get a health check plus Frontline treatment 48 hrs before flying anyway, most vets are well versed in the procedure and should be able to give you all the info.. Also do a search and post in the pets section, I am sure there used to be a good procedure checklist on there, if not someone will surely advise (sorry I can't help, we used DKC).

Its a good thing she could lipsync and he can play football, otherwise there's two perfect candidates for a nice council flat in Peckham.... Which why they are style icons for people who do live in council flats in Peckham.........

No one was saying "do it yourself"........more that a) the OP might rethink where extra help might be best directed, and b) that the need for help might not be as great as expected, ie that the situation might prove less overwhelming than it looks from the last few exhausting weeks of pregnancy. (I certainly recall moments of sheer "how will I cope with two" panic.) In any event the OP has had several helpful offers.

Shaf, for the life of me, I can't see why you took offense at CP's post, it was both kindly meant, and based on experience as a mother. And based on my own experience as a mother, I would suggest that you are looking at this through the wrong end of the telescope......it will be your older child who really, really needs one on one time with you. After the baby arrive, I would suggest getting extra help there, so you can have a hour or so uninterrupted cuddle and chat and storybook time with your toddler. At nineteen months that's all that's required, don't worry about "education". Good luck and enjoy both your littleones.

Thanks for your reply. Indeed a very helpful advise. He is getting lesser grade in English. Hence i needed a teacher. I dont have patience to sit with him for studies. And sometimes beat him also. I understand he is very young and he is needs time. He is having prob wen reading small sentences like joining the letters using phonic sounds. regards florals I sincerely hope I am misreading your post, florals, please tell me that "sometimes beat him also" is a language confusion. if not, please, please get yourself some help, it is not your poor child who has a problem, it is you. And, that is not an attack, merely a concerned observation......if you truly do not have patience to sit with him, and "sometimes beat him" then you are not coping well and need help before you seriously damage your child. Fear and impatience are not good educators. edited by Livelytrish on 09/01/2011

Small World. Met DH in Huntly 27 years ago. My parents and brother stay in Ellon now. Did you go to school at all in Huntly? No, nor in Ellon. Went to school in Aberdeen for a few years, the rest in England and abroad. But we used to go and stay in Huntly when my father went fishing on the Deveron and Bogie - lovely place.

Foggie even! I was born in Ellon but family originally from around Huntly, grew up all over but went back to Uni in Aberdeen and lived there off and on for years in between overseas stints, lastly Doha and Dubai, now halfway up a mountain in Cyprus mostly, apart from the odd trip to AD to see DH.

I may have woken myself up snoring. Obviously respiratory problems.... Nooo, not farting females as well as snoring ones! Oh yeah, if your Dally isn't proud of its farts, or wafts the covers then no, it doesn't count :) Thank the gods for that then..........she does have the decency to look vaguely embarassed........and look pointedly in the poodles direction! BTW what is it about men, that they think it's terribly clever to make dreadful noises and worse smells? I could find it amusing and even cute in my two year old, but........in a grown man?

Aren't plants bad for the bedroom? Is it true they emit toxins at night? I know also for feng shui they are bad This is an old wives tale, read any basic botany book about how plants "breathe". Quite the opposite, they are good. I find it so annoying when I see nurses still removing them from wards at night. :) As I said, an old wives tale........and scary to hear of supposedly educated people still acting on it.

I truly hope this is the real story and there will be a happy ending for all concerned but it's a bit of an ask to believe that even 7Days would deliberately fabricate actual statements by police officials. (Bearing in mind that there is no journalistic protection in UAE)

Yes, the streets will certainly be safer once these dangerous criminals have been rounded up. So very very sad in every sense. As for some of the posters on this thread, well done for keeping up the lynch mob reputation - can none of you even begin the comprehend the term "out of one's mind with fear"? Has anyone been prescribed Amvasc 2.5mg for high BP? Did you any side effects? Did it reduce your BP? Im not happy as Ive been told I need to take this if I am to commence exercise next week. Ive had a virus and was hoping to reduce my BP through improving my diet, getting fit and losing weight... For many people unfortunately HBP is genetic and not affected by fitness, diet or any other lifestyle factor, and can only be controlled by drugs. If you are worried about the diagnosis, get a second, MEDICAL, opinion, rather than asking questions on a forum. You are talking about your health, not a hairdo.

If I were your friend I would seriously be considering terminating the cousin's employment soonest. Not so much out of guilt by association, but self protection. If he is too afraid to rock the boat by questioning her, where on earth is the level ot trust there? I find that really, really weird...and just a little bit scary. I would bet the farm that she will have a very, very good idea of what has happened to her cousin.......and if she genuinely doesn't, shouldn't she be falling over herself to help find her?
