I've been offered a job with a company in Media City...and was told that they wouldn't need to give me a visa- just a permit. Now i'm wondering what the pros and cons are. If I wanted to change jobs, would I be able to do so by just providing the usual one month notice? Or is the permit some kind of fixed term contract? Also what would it cost the co. for such a permit? Any other things I need to consider? Would much appreciate any inputs, thanks!

TECOM has accepted my complaint against my ex-employer. They have send an intimation letter - email which mentions that I have filled a complaint against the company and the company needs to resolve the dispute in three working days or else the complaint will be referred to the Labour Court. Keeping my fingures crossed. edited by bhav1311 on 08/01/2013 Rooting for you! All the best!

Soukina, I understand its not possible to put baby in a nursery till you find a job as job hunting takes time and nurseries are expensive. Also you'll need to find a nursery close to where you work (not live) as you may need to get to baby in a hurry. A few thoughts: 1- You don't say how old your baby is? If he/she is old enough, you could leave him/her at the activity center at the mall (you know, the enclosed play area with attendants where parents leave their children when they go shopping) for an hour or so. Find the mall closest to your interview. If you're not comfortable leaving h/h alone, maybe hubby can work from his laptop/smartphone close by? 2- Get hubby to take an hour or two off and deliver baby to him. They can spend the time in a mall/park etc. Then collect baby after interview. 3- Have hubby take sick leave on the day. If he really needs to be at work, he can make a quick 'recovery' when you get back. All the best in your job search!

I'm reading Les Miserables (in installments from Dailylit.org) and the Church of Facebook. Both great reads. The CoF has already made a fantastic impression on me and I'm only a few pages through. Among other things it demonstrates that our basic need is 'connection'! That's an eye opener for me. Is there a library here in Dubai? Or is that a silly question?

So it's kind of past DSO before outlet mall? That's correct. Way past. As you're going down the Al Ain road, there's DSO on the left, then Academic city also on the left, then Skycourts on the right and then DO mall also on the right

Ours was 'Till the end of time'. It went like this: Till the end of time The day we've waited for a time when dreams stand still. We make a solemn vow, I hear you say you will. You'll leave all the others for, the one you choose to take, as you unveil your heart, the promise that I make. Etc.

They're actually the tallest buildings in the area. If you're going there in the evening, you should be able to spot the blinking red lights from way way off!

I looked into this a while ago - surprise surprise, you need to get a permit! That was enough to put me off, but good luck if you decide to go ahead! http://wildlife.ae/en/visit/visitation.php It says on the website that the permit is only for group tours/corporate/institutional groups etc whereas individuals and families can enter free. Timings are 9h to 16h, Saturday through Thursday.
