I had a blast, went with a real good group of friends, dressed up like an eijit and had a great time. Didn't find Boy George offensive in any way whatsoever, I'm not his biggest fan, but I really enjoyed him and Belinda Carlise was great. Paul Young was a bit of a wet fish though. Yeah the bar scenario was a bit of a nightmare but enjoyed some crack with other folk waiting so that was fine. All in all, really good time was had by all..............well of us anyway!!

Once a week for four hours, though I would rather have an hour a day! Impossible though. We send ironing out to laundry co. Miss balamory - which company do you send your ironing to and what are the charges - is it per hour or per item. Thanks.

You are welcome DC, sorry I didn't actually meet you. If Oscar ever goes walkabout I just hope and pray someone like you would find him and look after him till I could collect him - although I'd be there in minutes not days! Sorry, I had to pop out. If Oscar ever turned up here he'd have bed and board for as long as he needed. And a space on the sofa ;). DH says thanks for the QS and I'm in trouble if there's none left when he gets home from Saudi! Quality Street..........damn........ i should've come over.xx

I used to work and didnt have homehelp and now now I have gone back to work and have a full time maid who picks up my youngest from nursery and cooks and cleans while he is there. If you can find a way to have a live in maid by moving it will make working so much easier. You will have loats of time with your child when you come home from work and now be faced with scraping wheetabix off breakfast bowls. It sets like cememt. It used be so stressful if my son was sick. I was always in a rush, always had a to do list but now it is easy and I love my work and have nothing to do when I get home except things with the boys. It just didn't work the other way. Don't get caught up in the battle with the high moral ground ladies who sneer at working women. Rise above it as you will never convince them that our children should not be swooped up by social services and given to well meaning ladies to raise them right! Thanks to all for your help and kind words........... and I sooooooo know what you mean about the weetabix..... then you find a bit on the floor too....... that requires the good wallpaper scraper to get that off!!

Zannie - Thank you for your kind offer, we are in Arabian Ranches, although we may end up moving - as one of the other issues is that our house does not have a maids room. I really love where we live and this is why I thought I would try and research some other options before deciding whether we would have to get a maid and therefore end up moving. My apologies, I should've been more clear on my OP - I am more looking towards the organised structured events such as school camps etc., because as much as I have lovely people around me happy to help..... life changes day to day and perhaps if they were sick / had to go somewhere - I just wanted to have a more fixed option and then if a friend offered, that would be a bonus.

I really think Dubai is the kind of place where people should come to better their life. If 2 need to go to work and you cannot afford a maid then perhaps you should re-think your situation. I personally get sick of the amount of kids that seem to always need to come to our house after school as the babysitter let them down, or issues with the school bus, or the amount of kids whose parents do not attend school functions because they are at work. These kids need their parents. Perhaps you can gain employment at a school and have similar vaction timings? Bellydancer.......What was the point of your reply, it was not conducive in any way to what I was enquiring about. It must be wonderful for you that you don't have to work - I wish I had the same luxury, however you know nothing about each and every one's own personal circumstances. I found your high and might reply to be extremely patronising and insulting. I'm not interested in the opinions of the why's and why nots mums have to work - I do and believe you me, I'd love nothing more than to be able to stay at home - I've had a few years at it and for that I am grateful. I am merely asking for those of you who do work for suggestions during the long holidays. I do have a good network of friends and mums who are only willing to help me out but I don't want to impose on them so much and that is the reason for asking. edited by Lynn66 on 13/02/2011

My boss is trying to sell some very high quality, custom made pieces of furniture (were all very expensive). I've tried dubizzle, expat etc., but as i know only too well, you don't the get the offers you want. They really are beautiful pieces and I wondered if anyone knew of anywhere / anyone who buys high quality 2nd hand furniture here in Dubai. Any leads / thoughts / suggestions would be most appreciated.

JWAL - Good thread, i'm also thinking I need some help but have no idea where to begin - my DH is quite a bit older than me and I think i may be the one having to support us in not too many years time - but "what to do" is the question...
