For a full assessment of your child's learning and development it might be better to have him/her assessed by a clinical psychologist. It will cost much more than 300 dhs but u will receive a very comprehensive report on ur childs situation. Christa Strauss is a CP and I would highly recommend her.

Try boots online or amazon for 'Nelsons Teetha Granules'. I found them great when the gel seemes to have no effect. Also have a good nappy rash cream to hand as baby's bum came become very sore and red while teething. Lastly, putting a muslin cloth or facecloth into the freezer and giving it to your baby to bite down on.....

I also found her prices crazy, she's charging almost as much as a pediatrician fee!!! She told me that I could claim the money back on my insurance which turned out to be untrue and Im not sure if she really does that much, most of the issues I was having in the begining were solved by the pediatrician (which is covered by insurance) and also I found expat woman and the interent in general a great source of information. I feel as if this service is cashing in too much on that fact that there is no post delivery healthcare visits offered as standard in Dubai.

thanks, will order the colic calm..but for now I guess it's aprt and parcel of this phase.... Thanks might order some colic calm and keep her as comfortable as possible for now...she has not settled yet tonight (10pm) and is normally asleep b 7! Just to note, when I told her doc today I had been giving her Nurofen, he said to change to calpol as nurofen can be hard on baby's tummy...

My friend came home one day to her electricity being cut off in her apt' (studio). She was a single girl living on her own and would have been pretty stuck if she didn't have us to stay with. DEWA insisted she pay 11,000dhs for ONE MONTHS bill and when she contested it, they cut her off. She eventually ended up having to pay and they were a nightmare to deal with, she found it extremely stressful.......So while it may be illegal, it does happen...

With all due respect, teachers teach a class of 30 different kids every year which amounts to quite a lot over the course of a career so personalised gifts are not a good idea and normally end up in the bin. Why don't you just write a nice card, it will be a lot more memorable..

Thanks, I went out to Children's Oasis on the Palm recently and while it's fine, there are definate downsides. It's a converted apartment in one of the Shoreline buildings, no outdoor play and no seperate sleep area. The lady running it seemed nice tho' and I guess they don't have to meet all the usual criteria of they are a drop in nursery. xx

Hi Eveyone, I just thought someone had delted my post as I couldn't find it in the normal section. Now I relise it was moved. So, just an update on how things are going. Things have FINALLY settled down with our LO. It was a long, difficult road and at times we/ I questioned whether or not we were doing the right thing. However, we decided to persevere abd now our baby is sleeping much better, more or less from 7 till 7 and when she does wake doesn't really get upset anymore. More often than not she'll just snuggle into her conforter and go back to sleep. However, having gone thro' it all I know now that it's not taking away the dummy thats neccessarily the hard part, it's getting your baby to self settle (I took advice from Tizzie Hall's-'Save our Sleep). So ,we went thro a period of about 2 wks where LO would wake and not know how to get back to slepp and was sometimes awake for up to 2 hrs (not really crying but just wide awake). Introducing the comforter was a big thing ( I just use a muslin cloth) and puttin her down in her cot awake for all her sleeps. Also, consistency is important as otherwise the baby just ends up being confused (for example, she wakes and one night u go to her, the next u lift her, the next u feed her sending very mixed messages) All in all its been a long, tough but I would say successful road. She is getting much better quality sleep now, both day and night and I am starting to feel human again!! I realise more now how physically and mentally bad I felt when I was so sleep deprived. During this time(introducing new systems) you REALLY need supportfrom DH.

Hi, Ive been attending Dr.Khan at Cooper Clinic on Al Wasl Rd with my now 5 month old. Although I haven't had any major issues with her health, I have found him to be thorough, a good listner and someone I would trust. He also gives his mobile number which is good security for a 1st time mum who is a little clueless, though I haven't used it, so not sure if he would answer it!!!!!! I would def' recommend him.

Myself, DH and 6 wk old baby stayed there last May. It's nice if you like knobs and knockers style hotels. The rooms are spacious. If you plan on having dinner at the hotle, my advice is to make a reservation. The souk is within walking distance too and there's lots of rests' there..

Thanks Daza and fly mum....u both have a very balanced approach/attitude..and I fully agree with what ur both saying. I am going to do my best to accept what's happening at the moment and try to enjoy all the lovely aspects....I do feel guilty a lot for complaining coz I know this is a natural part of parenting and I should be more grateful that she's healthy and such a happy baby. And ur def' right when u say accepting the situation will help me cope much better... Im not sure if a problem shared is a problem halved but for me a problem shared is a problem helped.....:)

I feed her if she's awake for say more than half an hr(but this doesnt always work-she's never been a particularly hungry baby and Ive also tried the dream feed which only seemed to mess up her 7am feed........tonight I did the pat and sshhh at bedtime again but this time I didn't wait for her to start bawling ( I put her in her crib and did it immediately) Instead of the 2 hrs it took to settle her last night she was asleep in 10 mins. It just remains to be seen how she gets on tonight. I think one thing I have learned is that cry it out is not suitable for her as she can go for 2 hrs or more and I don't want her getting inot such a state before she goes to sleep. I would love for her to have a good sleep coz she's was very tired today and although very pleasant, she was very quiet and not as active as normal. Here's hoping. Thank you all for taking the time to reply. :)

Hi Mellie, I am slowly doing that and also tried the dream feed on the off chance that she was hungry. Maybe when she gets more into the solids it might help her along. Thanks :)

Pilot Princess, I gave her the dummy when she was born at the hospital as she was sucking her fist and the nurses recommended it. I never thought it would lead to this....Unless you've been up anywhere from 5 - 10 times a night for 2 months solid every night Im not sure u can judge. Also I am doing this in the hope that she too will be a better s;eeper as it's supposed to be so important for baby's development, that and I think I'm a far better mother when Im not exhausted and irritable.

Thank you so much...it must be great to have got her sorted out. I realise they go thro' different phases but my instincts tell me she's natrually a good sleeper. Unfortunately she's not a big feeder so I don't think feeding her would suffice. I'll def' check out that book and somebody else recommends Tizzie Hall's 'Save our Sleep' book. I guess I can only try these things and hope I stumble on the correct method...Thanks again.

A huge thank you to you all. Eventho' I am sure those of you who offered to look after her in your home are fantastic, I think overall I would feel happier putting her in a nursery. After lots of ringing around, Kiddy Planet have agreed to take her eventho' they normally dont accept any babies under 4 months. This is a load off my mind and although I think she's so young to be left anywhere its the best I can do . Thanks again for all ur help. Expat woman is a life saver.

I have to return to work for 2 weeks from June 15th and am really stuck for someone to look after my baby. Im sure I could get someone from an agency for that time but I'd be worried sick leaving her all day with a stranger...Are there any day care units in Dubai or does anyone have any other suggestions?
