I don't think Uptown Mirdiff is open yet but the one in Rashidiya is very easy to use and has a ladies only section with no queues

I didn't know such a thing existed but did use a hair band looped through the button hole, back through the band and then over the button to give a few inches and used this till about 5 months. as long as it was covered by a top it worked fine

There is a reason behind that. It is something to do with their language but I cannot remember the explanation . I think its funny when they call me sir. I look at my chest and say "really" they usually crack up laughing and apologise It's because in Tagalog language their is no male and female differentiation, so they often say "he" when referring to a female when speaking in English

thanks all, got one for 99 dhs in Spinneys, cheap and cheerful. As it's not something we would use on a regular basis I thought this would do and so far after using it on the weekend it's working pretty well.

I think you will find that the fee is not high if you compare it to any of the new schools which are crazy. We buy uniform from stitches. not too expensive but not great quality other than that we only pay for class outings and from Year 2 we are asked to buy pens etc. they provide many ECA's free of charge. if you choose for your child to attend one of the activities by an outside provider then you will pay for that but it's optional. Other costs would be class teacher gifts or buying the children's art works when they do Drawings by me. basically what is listed as fees is what you pay, no really hidden extras.

I live in Mirdiff behind Uptown and I think the drive to school in Um Sequim will be very difficult and could take anything from 30 mins to 1 hour on a bad day. All of the Salik dodgers drive through Mirdiff or come off Emirates Road to get to BB crossing and most days it take 25 mins just to get to DFC

Kinokuniya have a good selection, they are in the children's section but on the left wall when you enter the area. I bought one for my daughter when she was 9 and it's been really useful. She still uses it as a reference as different issues incidents / questions come up. I think it was called "the book for Girls". it doesn't have any mention of S*X but her Dad had that talk with her separately much to her disgust

I don't believe it's available here, in fact it's like gold dust in the States and the UK. My husband also prefers this and had to get it from Amazon to a friend to bring it last year.

you used to be able to buy them in Ace Hardware in the Garden section for about 3AED per packet. that's their original purpose, growing plants instead of using soil.

We went last summer and flew with Delta to Atlanta and on to Florida. The connections out of Atlanta were fantastic and the airport was lovely. It was half the price of all the other airlines. Food wasn't good but other than that it was fine, with good connection times. Another option for Orlando are the Universal hotels, as I'm sure you'll be going to the Universal theme parks as well. You get into the parks an hour before opening. Make sure to get fast pass for the parks and pre book the Disney ride time slots the day before (I think you can pre book 3 at a time) and have some online access when in the park to book times on rides. This save you standing in very long queues when it's very hot.

If it's a renewal NOC is not required and their is no bond because you are female. I sponsor both my children (and don't have the required designation) and don't pay a bond. As mentioned as long as you have all the docs it's a 10 minute process if no queues. I find the office in DFC is usually quite quiet if that's a good location for you

DESS has about 24 kids per class in FS2 currently and 5 classes but perhaps many of the spaces have gone to siblings so very few left for new children. Their enrolement for FS1 2015 was opened in Feb and filled very quickly edited by Mags on 10/07/2014

Sun and Sand are the distributors for Nike in the region and also run "most" of the stand alone stores so generally would have the best selection except for any excusive lines in Intersport or one of the other big mulit brand stores

What year is she in? My son is in Year 1 (he is also 6) and although she might be minority in the class she's not in the year. Do you know who your class rep is who might be able to help you organise playdates? if she is in Year 2 then in year 3 they mix up the classes so new friendships get made. Neither of my kids excel at sports but they have so many other activities.
