Have had two deliveries to apartment with no fuss from a web-based company. Never had off booze and in fact they have given 6 free bottles of grape which were drinkable both times. Me too, several deliveries to our apartment with no problems at all

Instead of buttermilk I warm the milk in microwave for 30 seconds, then add a squeeze of lemon juice. Always works perfectly.

Salmon soaked in terriyaki sauce for around 30 minutes then pan fried and served with egg noodles and stirfry veg. Any white fish - thinly slice some potatoes, arrange in baking tray, couple of layers, sprinkle with olive oil, salt and pepper, put in hot oven for 20 mins, while thats cooking, pan fry some mushrooms/peppers/onions. After pototoes have been oven for 20 mins, scatter pan fried veg on top, add some cherry tomatoes, white fish on top and some slices of lemon. All back in the oven until fish is cooked. Simple and delicious, I add anchovies to the top of the fish as well as I love them, but a lot of people don't.

I went to the Dubai London clinic, cost was AED 2200. For Bupa to pay back I needed an invoice with all procedures itemised rather than just the invoice with "well woman" which I submitted at first. Also Bupa only paid for the mammogram and smear, not blood/urine tests, so from memory I think I got around AED 1800 back

Use your membership number to register on members world on the Bupa website http://www.bupa-intl.com/ you can then use the message funciton to speak to someone online (bit like an msn messenger). They'll look at your policy, give you a definate answer and afterwards you can print off the online conversation so you have a record.

I left Dubai for 2 years and left 2 different bank accounts open, returned 2 years later and just starting using them again. No problem with charges or anything when I wasn't using them.

Zengirl - Try Derwents (www.derwent.ae) we have used them for 2 office fitouts now (few years apart) and both times they have been brilliant. Customer service is excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. My contact there was Peter Donaldson.

We recently used a company called IP Global to buy a buy-to-let property in London. They have an office in Dubai and helped us to pick the property, arrange the mortgage, deal with solicitors and rent out the property without actually having to leave the UAE. They also work with Liquid Expat Mortgages (I think), mentioned in a previous post. We're happy, so definitely worth a try.

Hi Chocobella. Everything was very smooth when we signed the contract, we didn't change anything. We're in a 2 bed and pay 90k in 4 cheques, but I remember when we took the apartment that it was an extra 10k per year (i think) for a marina view (we have Shk Zayed Rd view). At renewal time, our rent was kept the same without a problem, the only trouble was the real estate people wanted to charge 1000aed to renewwhich we disputed as according to RERA that's not allowed. RERA told us to speak to the landlord and the bank got involved and asked if we would meet the real estate people half way and pay 500aed which we did.

I've been living in Opal Tower for over a year and love it. The whole tower is kept clean, maintenance are in the building, so any problems are fixed quickly. We have good neighbours on our floor and are not disturbed by anyone. We did have a problem with food smells from other apartments, but maintenance came and blocked off a vent. The only problems are, we face Shk Zayed Road and the traffic is a little noisy to begin with, but we're used it it now, the cooker in the kitchen is a little odd, you can't have all 4 rings on the hob turned on at the same time, you have to kind of juggle which ones you have on at which temperature. Also not sure how long it will take, but a mosque is being built directly across the road (opposite the bank), not sure how loud the call to prayer will be once the mosque is completed, but it will be very close.

Rosie M, you need to either get a VPN so that you can watch UK tv on bbc iplayer or via itv or google for instructions for how to download tv programmes. Can't give more exact instructions than that I'm afraid as naming specific websites to use is likely to get them blocked, but if you google, you should find the answers you're looking for.

RERA are really good, we gave them a call and they told us to come and see them with regards to our Real Estate people wanting to charge us AED 1000 to renew our lease (which we discovered is against the law). They told us to come down with all the paperwork (lease agreement, emails asking for the 1000), to be honest I thought it was a waste of time, but they couldn't have been nicer. They will be taking it up with the Real Estate company, they told us what we had to do and even said the registration form we had signed when we first moved in which to be fair did say it would be 1000 to renew wasn't enforceable. Very glad we got in touch with them, have now renewed the contract and not paid 1000 for doing it.

Speak to your maintenance people, the guys in our tower came up lifted a ceiling tile and sealed something up which hadn't been done correctly during the building process (it was obviously a common problem as they knew exactly what to do), since then no food smells.

Thanks Simpleasabc, must just be me then, I'll get in touch with them. It's not just suppliers it's regular post, for instance my mum posted something from within the UK to my aramex box at the beginning of August and it still hasn't arrived, she posted something at the same time to my SIL and it arrived at her door the next day. It's been happening for a few months now, so not just the odd thing.

Contact the MoL and ask them to do an inspection after 3 pm........ the company will be fined. Surely you can't be fined just for being open after 3pm, what if you didn't start work until say 11am?

As we see in the thread there are always exceptions to the rule and I have no issue with people taking their time or using the disabled loos if they genuinely need it due to a medical issue or disability. I am generally talking about the non exceptions, simply those who go into the loo and take longer than 5 minutes. Why does it have to take that long?! Unless you are clearing up a mess all over the seat that someone else left (often happens) I think some people just sit on there and text their friends or rest their legs at the expense of others waiting. For the sake of argument, I just went to the loo on the way back from lunch and timed myself. From entering the cubicle to leaving the cubicle took exactly 32 seconds - and I was not rushing! Number 2's longer, granted, but seriously its just as rude taking forever in a cubicle when you know someone is waiting behind you almost wetting themselves as it is me asking if they could hurry it along! I'm just saying... Kylie2810 who died and made you the toilet police? How to you know who is the exception and needs to take longer than your "norm", how exactly do you work out if they are in there for a medical reason or not before you begin banging on the door?

Arrgh, rude people! I like to make up my own toilet ettiquite when people are taking too long. I just bang on the door and tell em to hurry up. If they refuse I start loudly announcing that it only should take 30 seconds to drop your daks and empty your bladder. Any longer and you should see a doctor! They usually hurry out and scuttle off then. Sorry, but if you want to dawdle and take your sweet time, thats what your toilet at home is for! Grr You put a time limit as to how long a person is allowed to use the loo? When you bang on the door do you tell them their time is up?? Talk about being rude.................. How very rude, Kylie2810 perhaps you should spare a thought for people with stomach complaints who may well take longer than your alloted 30 seconds, they are probably embarrassed enough without people like you banging on the door to highlight the fact they are taking too long!

Thanks Pomegranate, but if they were here for several months with no job and just travel insurance then Axa could easily prove they were living without a residence visa by the number of visit visa stamps in the passport. So if I'm reading what you've put correctly in that case Axa wouldn't then pay out in the event of a claim?

My h had his unlocked last week at a shop called Al Khalifa. He went to Minutes in Deira City Centre and they told him to go to a shop in Deira opposite to the Hyatt Regency and the opposite end to the fish market. He couldn't find the shop they told him to go to, but found a whole load of other mobile phone shops and went in a few showed them the phone and got told they couldn't do it, then like the 5th one he went in said yes. He left the phone with them for about an hour and voila, phone is unlocked and has worked perfectly ever since.
