Go to the Dr. Probably an anomaly. I've been in the position of changing pads every 20 minutes without any sign of stoppage in the flow - even on worst days, I can get at least 4 hours out of a heavy duty one. Doc prescribed birth control pills and flowage slowed to normal and never had a problem since. No exam was necessary. Don't mean to imply your situation is similar to mine, just that it might not be as bad as you think - but you do have to see the doctor.

We'll have to agree to disagree then - just because the property is not built on or signed in any way or is not adjacent to a structure does not mean that it does not "belong" to anyone. Even if it belongs to the municipality it still does not make it wide open for anyone the municipality has not authorized to use, even for parking. I own 5 hectares of unbuilt on land in my home country, it's private property, and I have the right to refuse you entry to it even if I'm not using it right now.

sorry marieke - but 3 x a day may not be enough --- for now. You have to go out for at least one "big" walk - 45 min to an hour per day (hey, it's good for you too! bonus!!) He is learning, just as a child is potty trained. It can take longer or shorter depending on the CHILD not on what you're doing. From your post, your dog is getting less than an hour per day to "do his business". It's not just his business - it's getting out, sniffing what's happening in the neighbourhood and getting exercise. To give you a comparison. When you get up in the morning, do you spend 15 minutes of exertion, go back to bed, then about 3 or 4 in the afternoon, go out for another 30 - 60 minutes? Would you do that to a two year old child? Yes it gets hot in summer, you go out early (5am in my case) so puppy can RUN for 30 - 60 minutes before it gets too hot. then puppy goes out around 11am for a quick bathroom break, and another when I get home about 4pm. After the sun goes down, we go out for another 30 minutes maybe not so active as 5 am but to try and get some exercise (for both him and me) and take care of bathroom duties. I've been doing this for 14 years. Is it fun every day? NO! But this is a LIFE that I HAVE CHOSEN to take on through the good and the bad. If people (and I'm not saying you are in this group) cannot take the rough with the smooth - DON'T GET A PET OF ANY KIND.

I went to the airport and paid for the Al Maha service in cash. Takes about 5 minutes. Of course it would be more convenient online, but if it's not working as a third party (maybe it only works for the actual passenger booking the service? I don't know).

I find it strange, as the word or the animal itself (on the animal channels) is not censored anyplace else I know of - I don't watch Fox much but I do watch a LOT of cooking shows - they talk a lot about the haram animal and its various bits and pieces.

Perhaps if you leave the other cat outside as well? The first may well be lonely. I know how you feel as I have 2 elderly cats who are OK to sleep with and 1 youngster who can't settle (and has no bed manners). So he and his best friend are banished and the oldest cat stays with me (mostly for a break I think). It may take a couple of nights, it did with mine. They will still wake me up early but it's not something ongoing through the night. HTH ETA - get him his own friend!!!! If you're non-resident aren't you exempt from UK tax? I'm not a Brit so I don't know. In my home country, so long as I am recognized as non-resident for tax purposes, my earnings/savings are not subject to tax, no matter where they are now.

I've had cats and dogs in the GCC since 2000 and never a flea from then to now ( however, let's talk ticks). I believe OP has fleas if they are familiar with the creatures. However if they're not familiar with the critters, my question would be are there potted plants in your household? If so, you might have what looks like a flea that "flies". Put out a small dish with whole cloves in it near the plants. It helps. On the flea related topic, are your pets scratching or are any family members?

If you're flying economy - neither, go Emirates via JFK. Qatar Airways is crummy. I live in Qatar and refuse to fly with this poor excuse for an airline, ground staff and air crew are poor and their various allowances checked bags and carry on do not compare with the service and allowances on Emirates. When I fly anywhere from Qatar, I do so with Emirates even though it also means a stopover in Dubai. Qatar Airways does not respond to complaints or feedback = period. Emirates, while I may have some issues with them, at least tries to understand my perspective and respond to it - do I always get what I want NO, but I get treated like a person, not a dollar sign.

Probably, but if you and the sponsor don't tell - could you be charged? That's why I said I didn't know if the law would view it in the same light as a direct payment. In my country, (if the same laws were in place) it would still be illegal - but that's common law.

While Dubai is advanced in many ways, animal welfare is not one of them. You have to go to the municipality to ensure puppy is not there. I know you have a lot of commitments and it is difficult but Dubai municipality is not going to accomodate these issues for you. Get DH or a friend or anyone to go if you can't (buy them a bang up dinner at a nice restaurant as compensation if needed). Even having a tag or a collar with a number won't guarantee anything (unless one of the vet surgeries gets her) - sorry but that's the reality here. Good luck, I hope Guinness turns up safe and sound.

The fellas (no matter what their nationality) do NOT like having their pictures taken while they are doing something stupid or dangerous. You have little to worry about by reporting them (especially if you have pictures). My male students (nationals) tell me that the fellas are not likely to file a complaint against a white middle aged white lady who took their picture violating traffic laws - and if it should happen, I have about a dozen national students who are willing to go to CID to assist me with translation. Mostly they have told me that the fellas would be too embarrassed to report me as doing something "wrong" because the police would scold them for not behaving correctly. I've yet to run across a woman who was that stupid or dangerous (mostly inattentive) - although I did get into a gesticualtion match with a stupid c o w at an intersection where I was a pedestrian and she was "delayed" while I finished crossing the street (with the pedestrian light). No idea if she was a local or not. Just knew she was stupid. <em>edited by marycatherine on 18/03/2011</em>

SW I am not disagreeing with your point, but I do believe it comes down to the human condition - there but for the grace of God go I - and if I do nothing to try and help no matter our legal connection (or social for that matter), what does that make me? Perhaps there are those who can separate themselves on one level or another, I for one cannot and I am not suggesting you or anyone else can. I take exception to the every man for himself mindset in a situation where I CAN do something, no matter how little (again, not you in this instance). To be honest, I wouldn't be waiting for even my embassy to get me out - they have historically shown themselves to be footdraggers to say the least. I have a plan, I have $$$ and other resources to extricate myself from a negative situation which I hope will serve, I will help anyone I can along the way, as I am sure many of the ladies here would do as well if they can do so without endangering their families.

I don't depend on my employer (because they're idiots) to get me out of this country if the balloon goes up, BUT if my neighbour needed help, I'd do what I could because I couldn't live with myself otherwise. People in Japan are volunteering to go back into nuclear facilities to try and avoid an enormous disaster, knowing that they themselves will probably die (for people they DON'T know). Nursing home staff are staying with their charges because the elderly people they care for won't survive if they are transported. And this is a discussion about one person, who lives in our home and looks after us and our children???

I'll be even more blunt, besides not being bright the vet is irresponsible to suggest that this is a "good idea". What happens if the cat has 6 kittens - are you prepared to raise and look after 7 cats for the next 12 - 15 years. Annual vaccinations, moving them with you if you decide to leave the country. It's not cheap - just the food and litter and annual vaccinations will cost you 1000s each year, let alone if they need any medical treatment. Contrary to popular belief, cats (nor dogs) do not [i'>need[/i'> to have babies before they are spayed or neutered. They are actually less likely to develop certain cancers if they do not and are spayed and neutered at an appropriate age. Get yourself a competent vet and educate yourself about the costs involved and the risks to your animal.

Patience is the key as you said. Dogs will pee as a sign of submission, so if you're upset with him, he'll pee as a gesture of submission (recognizing you're the boss) it's not malicious, it's doggy speak. Both you and he will benefit if you can keep things calm - and get him out for a walk often (even if it's only for 15 minutes - it's good for you too as a bonus!) When he does do his business outside, praise, praise, praise. You can also start to try and teach him that it's time to go - as soon as he lifts his leg or squats use a key word or phrase (I use hurry up, basically because I had to housebreak my dog in December/January in Canada and at 2am in your jammies it's damn cold). She has learned that hurry up means to start looking for a "good" spot. It doesn't always work (sometimes she just doesn't have to go) but 90% of the time she does at least "try". Good luck - it will take time but if you keep it positive and calm, you should see good results in a matter of a few weeks (with some accidents along the way).

As an addition - my dog (10years +) has had occasional accidents inside. I have never punished her for these because I am rarely there when she pees. Most of these accidents have been as a result of my not being alert to signals that she wanted to go outside. Like children, dogs are often unable to "tell" us that they need to go outside (more often, we're not paying attention). Young dogs like young children have less control and fewer communication skills. We as the "adults" have to learn to pay attention

As for baths , if he smells, bath him. You can get basic dog shampoo from supermarkets. You can use yours. Just make sure he is RINSED COMPLETELY, soap is rarely the problem, lack of rinsing is. if he is typical the first thig he will do is roll in dirt after the bath (frustrating but that's what dogs world wide do). Let him dry off as much as possible outside. Peeing as you describe it is a sign of submissiveness. Most (male) dogs pee inside to mark territory. Lots of walks, lots of praise when peeing outside, removing all pee traces inside (no negative reinforcement if the dog pees inside) will hopefully get rid of your and his problem. Like toilet training a child, it can take time for those who need a little more time. Well worth it in the end.

OK if you're not home, can you put plants in a room you can close the door (and keep kitty out)? Problem partially solved - you will still have to water spray her if she persists. Put a styrofoam plate (holes cut appopriately) over the top of the pot. Use largish stones (maybe 3- 6 cm in diameter) at the top of the pots. Get kitty a kitty friend, but this can backfire with 2 kitties emptying the plant pots GOOD LUCK

I believe the product is called Revolution - it is a liquid that it applied between the shoulder blades (where Kitty can't get at it easily) and like Frontline for fleas - it "spreads" over the animal and eliminates the mites. I had to have my 3 done when no. 3 (bin cat) managed to spread his problem to the others. Works very well.

All of them work on the same principal that moisture conducts your heart rate to the monitor. When your monitor is "young" often the sweat produced will provide a conduit. I've used spit or a drop of water on my finger and wiped on the receptors. If you're having difficulty getting readings check the batteries.

I agree Chocs01 -but people should be basing their decisions on facts and possible consequences - not hearsay from the poorly informed. You're not likely to be charged with adultery if you have *** with someone not your spouse either, so long as you're discreet - but if someone complains the police will act. The info about "federal law" is incorrect, most emirates have a facility available for you to get a liquor license. The FNC does not deal with those issues, same as each emirate has their own police force which deal with traffic issues etc in their jurisdictions. As you say, so long as people are not behaving stupidly, are not bootlegging, etc. you'll be OK.

This is rote memorization, not learning. While I agree repetition is a very important part, it is important that it take place in context, not as a parrot. Would suggest to OP you have brief conversations with her about different tasks and chores - play both parts and DEMONSTRATE both roles at the same time - then get her to play both roles as well. Then take turns. Just do one thing a day (washing dishes, then the laundry, etc) Writing down new vocab - perhaps with a picture (hand drawn or cut out of a magazine) is also helpful. This is assuming you are willing to take on the role of teacher - if not, do as another poster said and contact the Philippino Embassy and other Pinoy organizations that assist in the community for assistance and advice.
